Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

We have built a BRAND NEW comfortable secluded 1300 sq.ft. home in the volcano fern forest. We love spending time here for the quiet atmosphere, fireside experience and relaxed peaceful getaway feeling. We want to share it with you in hopes that you will find this too. This is the 'Big Island' and if you are visiting Kona, it's a long drive to circle the island in one day, so making a couple nights stay in the Volcano area at our place will be the ideal way to do it. Ask about our Kona rental as well.

There is so much to see and do at the Volcano National Park, not to mention visiting Hilo and the beaches there. Or just 'STAY OHIA' like we do to relax and enjoy the fern forest and quiet. Our place is full of the best that we always wanted in a get away cabin, such as pine walls, black granite counter tops, slate and tigerwood floors, stainless steel appliances and the latest in media entertainment, all the way from the old fashion record player to a large flat screen high definition tv, Ipod docking and the ability to see your computer on the tv for slide shows of your most recent trips.

FREE WIFI too!!

We are long time residents of Kona and are used to helping tourists have the best time while they're here so feel free to email us. All the best with your travels, Mike and Liz

About Liz Wright

My husband Mike works for a catamaran company in Kona. I have a professional cleaning business as a self employed owner for more than 20 years. I have lived in Kona for 40 years, originally from Vancouver, Canada, and Mike has been here for 26 years, originally from Oahu. We own our home in Kona and enjoy the volcano area when we can. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA' Mike Cabral and Elizabeth Wright

Why Liz Wright chose Volcano

We love this area because it's so opposite from Kona. It's cool and country with beautiful fern forests all around. It's only 1 mile from the volcano village and 2 miles from the Volcano National Park entrance. Heading out to explore for the morning and returning for lunch is so easy. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA'

What makes this cabin unique

I've always loved a 'real wood burning' fireplace and that is what we have at our spacious cottage style home. It's a warm comfortable atmosphere that allows us to enjoy the things we don't in the faster pace of Kona, like playing music, board games or just relaxing with good conversation. I do a bit of running and the neighborhoods are generally flat and free of roaming dogs.

Very Cozy

  • 5 of 5

After a month roasting in Kohala, came here to chill, super nice place, spotless, everything you need and then some. Outstanding lanai out back, enjoy some wine, the songbirds and the exquisite solitude, and wake up to the songbirds again the following morning. Hit Costco or other prior to arriving, little, if any, provisions in Volcano village, Hilo about 90 minute round trip.

Visit the Halemaumau overlook after sunset and if able, take Kalapana Cultural Tour boat from Poohiki to the lava ocean entry, truly spectacular and boat only sits 6 so as intimate as can be.

Wonderful place. Warm and inviting. Fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful three days in the Volcano area, exploring the national park and the surrounding area. We could not have selected a better place to stay. The house was perfect for the four of us, and coming 'home' after a day of hiking and exploring was just perfect!

My husband and I along with our two daughters stayed two nights at this Cottage. It was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the Hilo side of the Island. We will be back some day! Thanks for a great experience!

Ohia Cottage was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Mike and Liz's cottage. It is a beautiful property and had the amenities we needed. Mike and Liz were also helpful in assisting us in planning activities in the Kona area. We loved our snorkel cruise that they suggested! We would definitely stay here in the future, if we visit the Island again.

Wonderful place to stay near Volcano NP

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Liz and Mike for allowing us to stay at your cottage while on vacation. It was like a home away from home. You provided everything that we needed, including umbrellas and flashlights which we would not have had to have packed. Items in the kitchen were well stocked and it was wonderful to have a kitchen to cook breakfast and supper in. Loved the ability to do laundry also. The back porch was beautiful and we wished that we would have had time to enjoy it. We would highly recommend your place to anyone visiting the Volcano area. John and Theresa March 31- April 3
