About Shannon French

When I was 27 years old, I decided to sell real estate. Shortly after at the age of 29, I decided to open my own brokerage, Southern Trade Realty (Oct. 2006 so you do the math to see how old I am now)! I quickly learned to combine my passion for designing, creating and decorating to another level. I started to invest in real estate at a very young age, and I am still very passionate about it. I really enjoy getting to know my guests and proud to say I now have repeat buisness. I concentrate on making sure my guests are happy and I take pride in the comfort of my properties and of course, the decor has to be just right. Feel free to call me Shannon 804-815-1912.

Why Shannon French chose Gloucester

This area is where I personally grew up. I remember the days on the river at a very young age. I fished, crabbed, learned how to swim, relax, kayak, explore and I am still enjoying all of this today with my family and friends.

What makes this cottage unique

Pictures cannot even describe this property (many of our guests say this once they arrive). It is one of the most serene places to be. Listening to the waves crash up against the rocks at night, taking a nap in the hammock on a warm summer afternoon, to watching the Osprey on the river, there is not a better place to enjoy nature at it's best. It is all at your fingertips.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the pleasant and memorable stay. We love your cozy cottage. Our second stay is as good experience as the first one. See you next year. Happy New Year!

Our Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at this house and it is absolutely fabulous! Sitting out on the screened in porch listening to the waves is so peaceful. The house is equipped well with everything you need for a comfortable home away from home. We are already planning our next trip.

Beautiful home and setting; just not as private as it appears on the website.

  • 3 of 5

I loved the setting and loved the house and amenities. What I've struggled with is the fact of not knowing the owner lives next door until inquiring about entry into the home the day before our arrival. I would have appreciated knowing that in advance as well as knowing I'd be driving mere feet between their garage and back door each time leaving and entering the home. We were not disturbed in any way by the owner (with the exception of the sound of dirt bikes and 4 wheelers on occasion) but i feel it would have been courteous on the owners part to inform us of that. Felt like we were under a microscope just a little and I was looking for a little more privacy.

Owner's Response: Anne, Thank you for the feedback, however your review seems to be contradicting! Yes my home is near the property. Just to be clear..I cannot see you at all in the home, while you are on the pier, while you are grilling, relaxing on the porch or in the hot tub. The only time I see my guest is if I am out watering my plants near the river or walk down to my pier. My husband and I both own companies and work long hours. We have been welcoming families & repeat families since 2011. I tell all my guest where I live, just in case they need anything at all just to knock on my door (southern hospitality)! The cottage is private and a place for couples or families to come rest & make memories on the river. Future guest...look at over 100 reviews and judge for yourself. Our home has been referred to as "Best Getaway", "Pure Heaven on Earth", "A Sanctuary", "Quiet Riverside Oasis", and the list goes on & on!

Fantastic. Tastefully decorated. All the modern conveniences. You have a ringside seat for all of the wildlife on the river. Beautiful area with lots to do. We will return.

Scenic Getaway with Lovely Views

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is beautiful, the views are amazing, and the place is very relaxing in general. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. It was misty and rainy when we went so we didn't take full advantage of all of the amenities, such as canoes and kayaks, but we sure will on our next visit. A weekend just wasn't long enough! We look forward to staying for longer during our next visit.

Quiet riverside oasis

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this beautiful home on the Ware River during an long fall break weekend with our 2 children and with one set of grandparents. The decor and finishes are lovely, the view is unbeatable, and the setting serene. Our vacation plan was to find a vacation rental for our group of 6 that allowed for more downtime together than bouncing between 2 hotel rooms, as well as seeing the sights in the historic triangle of Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown.

Pros for this rental: It is just beautiful! You feel like you are in your own little world right on the river. You can hear the waves at night, watch the sunrise from the master or from the sunporch, and can fish and kayak right from the dock/yard. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked with coffee (and a Keurig--yay!), as well as a grill that we did not use. The small town of Gloucester is lovely and has several shops and antique stores, and we ate a really good restaurant called Olivia's.

Cons for this rental: It was further from Williamsburg than I anticipated. Depending on traffic, it was about a 45-50 minute commute, with a $2 toll bridge on the quickest route (toll only charged one-way). It looks closer on the map to me (though I am no cartographer), but I suspect the water and geography limit the routes into Willliamsburg from Gloucester. That really is the only con for me. Once we reallized the distance, we just planned our days accordingly and did all we cared to do in town before coming back to the cottage.

Overall, I still feel this rental deserves 5 stars. It is clearly well cared for and would make a perfect getaway cottage if you love the water and are looking for a place of rest and renewal. I can see it as a place for a girls' getaway for up to 4 (5 or 6 if you don't mind using a pullout bed or air mattress). It was perfect for our family of 4 (we all stayed in the large master together) and the grandparents stayed in the second bedroom on the main level.
