A big hello to our guests from Michael and Sandra. Here is a little info about the proud owners of Paradise on Daniels Pond, aka Terrapin Station. We both were born and raised in the beautiful country suburbs of Phila, Pa, Michael in Chester Springs and Sandra in Yardley, and we are both grads of Penn State. Go State! Although we did not know each other until 2003, when the wonderful internet then brought us together, yes it does work! While building Terrapin Station, we would stay at the enchanted Inn on the Common in the picturesque town of Craftsburry Common, VT. Here we became engaged and then off to the chapel on the Common to marry in 2006. We now reside in our Pa dream home, a restored farmhouse circa 1812, in the quaint town of Birchrunville, with our 2 goats Templeton and Archie, our 3 cats Curious, A.J. and Chi, and of course the kids-young adults, Alexander, Connor and Taylor. And yes Michael is a long time fan of the Grateful Dead and Sandra, the Rolling Stones.
Sandra and Michael Fisher purchased this house in 2006
Ahh, Vermont. The beauty of all that nature has to offer at its best! We both were fortunate to experience the wonders of Vermont in our earlier years. Michael's first entre to the Kingdom was in 1978, with one of several visits to the renown Bread and Puppet Theater in Glover. Wanting more of this beautiful state, Michael moved to Waitsfield from 1982 - 1985, working at Sugarbush, loving every moment. Sandra's first of many visits was in 1980 with her childhood friend who grew up spending summer and winter vacations at their lake house near Rutland. Skiing Killington, Okemo, Magic, bushwacking, water skiing, skating, hiking and loving it!. On to the year 2005 when we were ready to find our second dream home. We had Vermont in our hearts and knew that our desire to have serenity, beauty, privacy, the wonders of nature, and year round outdoor activities were all in this beautiful state. So we went for it and began the search and found our piece of paradise on the internet, and in Glover, where it all began! Yes, the internet has been good to us. At the time the property was a rough clearing with a foundation on 55 wooded acres, with an unbelieveable view of the water and mountains, and 1800 feet of shoreline, just absolutely beautiful. Feb of 2006 our dream home was ready. The first knock on our door were our pond neighbors Linda and Arthur, who welcomed us and offered their hospitality and to stop by anytime. This is what the people of the Kingdom are all about. In 2010 we were ready to offer our home to others to be able to enjoy this magical place. The Kingdom is One of the Most Beautiful Places in America. We are very thankful!
To put it in the words of my sister, "This is heaven on earth". We booked the house so that we could have some down time with my sister who was visiting from overseas. To begin with the entire booking process was simple and easy. spoke with Sandra on the phone & worked everything out. We received an information package from her that was invaluable with excellent suggestions. The home was very comfortable for the 8 of us. The views were priceless. Waking up in the morning with the sun caressing you through the big windows & having a cup of coffee on the veranda watching the mist over the water was wonderful. All of us from the young to the old had something to do. Our son & I fished the entire time. he even went out to fish in the rain! The Fishers generously provided many games to keep us entertained when it rained outside. We took the suggestions & tried a lot of the local restaurants. Parsons soon became our favoite. Chef Dave even gave me a recipe for making perch which came out excellent! The house was immaculate and decorated to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. Again in the words of my sister "What a memorable house & vacation!" Thank you for allowing us the use of your beautiful home and we look forward to being back soon.
My family plus another (4 adults and 4 kids total) just spent a wonderful week at Terrapin Station. It was unanimous - we all loved the house and NE Vermont. The house was clean and furnished very nicely and very comfortable. it was "move in" ready when we arrived. All beds are made. Lots of towles provided. Little amenities like laundry and kitchen detergent, paper products, fire wood and games, etc. are all provided too.
The property itself is beautiful and well maintained. We canoed many times each day and fell in love with the pond life - a beaver, a pair of loons, geese family and even a big brown hare jumped through the yard a few times. We explored all the little towns - shopped at Willy's in Greensboro for food and cheeses. We checked out Hill Farmstead Brewery (of course brought goodies home from there). The bike riding was great - day tripped it to Kingdom Trails in E. Burk. For all serious Mt. bikers, this is a MUST! Also hiked the Willoughby Lake Gorge and White Mts. in New Hampshire (about an hour drive).
The owners were gracious and attentive. Thanks to them for sharing this lovely home. I would defintely recommend this house to other families and plan to return sometime hopefully soon.
We had a great stay at Terapin Station! Thank you for sharing your home with us. We got snowed in and you were so accommodating and even checked in on us. The house is well stocked and we slept well. Thank you so much!
Wonderful time with one other family. Sledding at the house-snowmobiling on the Vermont trails--snowboarding at Jay's Peak and to top it off a visit to Hill Farmstead! What a great vacation. Sandra was a complete pleasure to deal with. Thank you!
We stayed at Terrapin Station in January 2017. We booked our trip with hopes of a cozy, relaxing yet adventurous winter vacation and got exactly that. There is so much to do right at Terrapin Station - snowmobiling VAST trails right off of the property, walks through the woods, sledding down the front hill, snowshoeing... we also enjoyed our evenings reading and playing games by the fireplace! Not to mention, morning coffee while enjoying the view! We were also lucky enough to have several snow falls during our stay which made it that much more magical and peaceful!
We primarily use VRBO (Home Away) for our vacation rentals and have been happy with all of them - BUT Terrapin Station has been the best so far... it is perfectly equipped and organized with everything you could possibly need. The spice rack was fully stocked with quality spices, plenty of extra bath towels, toiletries for guest use, blow dryer, wonderful kitchen tools (we were most happy with the cookware as I tend to get frustrated with not-so-good cookware at vacation rentals!) Sandra and Michael were an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish...they made the booking process seamless, and checked in on us upon our arrival to ensure we were comfortable.
A few of our favorite things while visiting Terrapin and VT in general:
1. Parker Pie Company - very close to the house and DELICIOUS food along with quality local beers.
2. Snowmobiling VAST trails - especially high altitude trails! Exhilarating and magical!
3. Local VT craft breweries - Lost Nation was our favorite!
4. Restaurants and shops in Stowe (also not far from the house)
5. Lake Champlain Chocolate - just wow...
Thank you, thank you, thank you Sandra and Michael for opening up your little slice of heaven for all of us to enjoy!
My family of 5, my husband, me, my 2 sons (8 and 5) and my daughter (3) and our friend’s family of 4 stayed here Thanksgiving week (November 18 – November 24, 2016). We have made a tradition of going away Thanksgiving week to a different state each year.
This year was Vermont and we could not have picked a better place to stay.
Terrapin Station in Vermont’s beautiful Northeast Kingdom is absolutely breathtaking! The views take your breath away. The first and second night of our stay, we did s’mores right by the lake and we literally thought we could reach up and touch a star!
The third night of our stay it started snowing and OH MY, it was gorgeous! The kids had a blast sleigh riding down the hill for hours!
On Thanksgiving Day my husband built a fire in the fire pit so the kids could warm up while sleigh riding. It was magical.
We enjoyed out trips to Stowe, many breweries (The Alchemist, Lost Nation, Rock Art and many more!), Cabot Cheese factory, Ben and Jerry's (YUMMY!!!!), and visited Fresh Tracks Farm Vineyard & Winery which is gorgeous, warm, and cozy with some yummy wines.
Terrapin Station is immaculate, loved the decor, we had everything we needed and had many fun and memorable game nights with our family and our friends at the dining room table.
We will be back, just trying to figure when we can make the trip in the Fall (my kids sports take up our weekends, URGH!), but I am determined to make it work!
Sandra is an absolutely pleasure! She and my husband had a really good chat on the phone when we arrived. Thank you Sandra for letting me last minute change our date from our arrival date of November 19 to November 18, that was super nice of you and super helpful to my family our friends!
And THANK YOU so much for sending back Hershey! You should have seen my daughter's face when she opened the box!
The property is just WOW. It's your very own mini Switzerland with the snow laden hillside and lake as your backyard. Sandra was a superb host right from booking the property to sending the information booklet to calling to inform us about the impending snow storm the day we were to reach. We were 3 couples and the wives didn't wanna leave at all. The house itself is superbly kept and is super warm and cozy. We only stepped out twice during our 4 day stay. There is just so much to do in and around the house. The basement has a TT table and dart board. There must be atleast 20 board games.. we all went berserk playing monopoly..We plan to be back during fall to experience the fall colors and summer activities. Thank you Sandra and Michael for the wonderful experience.
