About Sandra and Michael Fisher

A big hello to our guests from Michael and Sandra. Here is a little info about the proud owners of Paradise on Daniels Pond, aka Terrapin Station. We both were born and raised in the beautiful country suburbs of Phila, Pa, Michael in Chester Springs and Sandra in Yardley, and we are both grads of Penn State. Go State! Although we did not know each other until 2003, when the wonderful internet then brought us together, yes it does work! While building Terrapin Station, we would stay at the enchanted Inn on the Common in the picturesque town of Craftsburry Common, VT. Here we became engaged and then off to the chapel on the Common to marry in 2006. We now reside in our Pa dream home, a restored farmhouse circa 1812, in the quaint town of Birchrunville, with our 2 goats Templeton and Archie, our 3 cats Curious, A.J. and Chi, and of course the kids-young adults, Alexander, Connor and Taylor. And yes Michael is a long time fan of the Grateful Dead and Sandra, the Rolling Stones.

Why Sandra and Michael Fisher chose Northeast Kingdom

Ahh, Vermont. The beauty of all that nature has to offer at its best! We both were fortunate to experience the wonders of Vermont in our earlier years. Michael's first entre to the Kingdom was in 1978, with one of several visits to the renown Bread and Puppet Theater in Glover. Wanting more of this beautiful state, Michael moved to Waitsfield from 1982 - 1985, working at Sugarbush, loving every moment. Sandra's first of many visits was in 1980 with her childhood friend who grew up spending summer and winter vacations at their lake house near Rutland. Skiing Killington, Okemo, Magic, bushwacking, water skiing, skating, hiking and loving it!. On to the year 2005 when we were ready to find our second dream home. We had Vermont in our hearts and knew that our desire to have serenity, beauty, privacy, the wonders of nature, and year round outdoor activities were all in this beautiful state. So we went for it and began the search and found our piece of paradise on the internet, and in Glover, where it all began! Yes, the internet has been good to us. At the time the property was a rough clearing with a foundation on 55 wooded acres, with an unbelieveable view of the water and mountains, and 1800 feet of shoreline, just absolutely beautiful. Feb of 2006 our dream home was ready. The first knock on our door were our pond neighbors Linda and Arthur, who welcomed us and offered their hospitality and to stop by anytime. This is what the people of the Kingdom are all about. In 2010 we were ready to offer our home to others to be able to enjoy this magical place. The Kingdom is One of the Most Beautiful Places in America. We are very thankful!

Guestbook comments from the owner

To put it in the words of my sister, "This is heaven on earth". We booked the house so that we could have some down time with my sister who was visiting from overseas. To begin with the entire booking process was simple and easy. spoke with Sandra on the phone & worked everything out. We received an information package from her that was invaluable with excellent suggestions. The home was very comfortable for the 8 of us. The views were priceless. Waking up in the morning with the sun caressing you through the big windows & having a cup of coffee on the veranda watching the mist over the water was wonderful. All of us from the young to the old had something to do. Our son & I fished the entire time. he even went out to fish in the rain! The Fishers generously provided many games to keep us entertained when it rained outside. We took the suggestions & tried a lot of the local restaurants. Parsons soon became our favoite. Chef Dave even gave me a recipe for making perch which came out excellent! The house was immaculate and decorated to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. Again in the words of my sister "What a memorable house & vacation!" Thank you for allowing us the use of your beautiful home and we look forward to being back soon.

One of Our Best Vacations!

  • 5 of 5

My family plus another (4 adults and 4 kids total) just spent a wonderful week at Terrapin Station. It was unanimous - we all loved the house and NE Vermont. The house was clean and furnished very nicely and very comfortable. it was "move in" ready when we arrived. All beds are made. Lots of towles provided. Little amenities like laundry and kitchen detergent, paper products, fire wood and games, etc. are all provided too.

The property itself is beautiful and well maintained. We canoed many times each day and fell in love with the pond life - a beaver, a pair of loons, geese family and even a big brown hare jumped through the yard a few times. We explored all the little towns - shopped at Willy's in Greensboro for food and cheeses. We checked out Hill Farmstead Brewery (of course brought goodies home from there). The bike riding was great - day tripped it to Kingdom Trails in E. Burk. For all serious Mt. bikers, this is a MUST! Also hiked the Willoughby Lake Gorge and White Mts. in New Hampshire (about an hour drive).

The owners were gracious and attentive. Thanks to them for sharing this lovely home. I would defintely recommend this house to other families and plan to return sometime hopefully soon.

Owner's Response: We know we say this frequently, but we are so thankful for you to have experienced the magic of Terrapin Station and the "Kingdom"! As you said "it was unanimous, we all loved the house and NE Vermont". That is what it is all about and what we strive for, to make Terrapin Station your home and for there to be all that you need to enjoy, for the very special young ones to the wonderful grand parents. How awesome that you also experienced so much of the Kingdom's beauty and attractions. This is why the NEK is so deserving of being on the list in "1000 Places To See Before You Die"! Thank you so much for sharing ""One of Our Best Vacations", with us and for the gracious compliments. Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to having you back! Warmly, Sandra and Michael

Castle On The Hill!

  • 5 of 5

Terrapin station is exactly as described in the VRBO link. Sandra was a pleasure to deal with. From my first contact with her to the last conversation we had. The guest information folder she mailed to us before our stay was very helpful and informative. It was nice having a hard copy of the info in hand to refer to. I will try not to repeat what has already been said in previous reviews. In this review I will try to convey how a stay at Terrapin will make you feel. More accurately, how it made me feel. This house is located in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The word Kingdom makes me think of castles. I would equate Terrapin to a castle. It is situated on top of a hill overlooking Daniels pond. Waking up in the master bedroom and walking over to look out of the massive window down the great lawn to the pond makes you feel as if you were in a castle! Behind the house is a thick stand of pine trees. Dark and deep, put me in mind of Sherwood forest. I know I have an overactive imagination. My wife and I spent three days in this magnificent house. It rain the whole time only interrupted by snow showers. Hey, it was the end of October in Vermont! We still had one of the best vacations ever. We wanted rest and relaxation and that is what we got. You will come to understand the saying the "silence was deafening", at Terrapin. I even think the airspace over this rental is restricted. Never hear or seen a single airplane. We did sample some of Sandra's recommendations for places to eat. Had Fish & Chip sat Parson's Corner. It was great! As was the pizza at "Parker Pie Company". I know...how great can pizza be in Vermont?? Well, some of the best pizza I ever had was in NYC and I can whole heartily say Parker Pie company could hold their own with any of them. The one place that is a must see if you stay at Terrapin Station is "Currier's Market". This place is right in the center of Glover. It is a meat market, bakery, grocery/ sporting goods/ hardware store all in one and than some. There is a full size moose and bear in the store. Along with countless other wildlife preserved forever. I cannot imagine how anyone can be disappointed with this rental. Give it a try...you will not regret it!

Absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Arrived late Friday night to such a thoughtful gift for our honeymoon from Sandra & Michael- which we enjoyed thoroughly ☺. The house and the property were gorgeous and incredibly relaxing. Tom & I had the best week to start our life together in such a great way. We hope to come back with our family for a family vacation with the whole family- plenty of room! All we can say is thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven on earth with us.

Fantastic Fall Color Visit

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and four of our friends just completed a one week stay at Terrapin Station. We are 6 retired adults from Florida that went to Vermont for the Fall colors. We could not have chosen a better place. The house was immaculate. The owners have thought of everything to make you stay comfortable and enjoyable. The list of amenities is extremely long. We have rented many houses and none as well equipped as this one. We loved the kitchen, which was amply supplied. Which was great, since we cooked most of our meals there. The house was extremely clean when we arrived and well equipped with all the necessities.

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation you could not find a better place. The front porch, with its view across the pond is extraordinary. The house is well equipped with many "pond toys" even though we were too busy most days to use them. The central location in the Northeast Kingdom is ideal. We spent each day exploring another area. We were especially intrigued by Derby Line, the town that has the US-Canada border right through town and right through the library building.

We really loved the place, hope to be back again and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting this part of our country. And, don't miss going to the Parker Pie Company

A Little Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Terrapin Station on Daniel's Pond is a little slice of Paradise for anyone who enjoys the wonders of Nature. Sitting by the fire pit gazing at the night sky I could only marvel at the endless stars. The pond itself was beautiful in the morning mist.

The house is exactly as pictured...welcoming, well-appointed, charming and spotless. with everything you could possibly need for your stay. There was something for everyone in our family of 3 adults, a teen and 2 children.... ping pong, board games, fishing, canoeing, kite flying, watching wildlife, sightseeing and just relaxing on the huge porch.

When we could tear ourselves away from the house, we sampled Parker Pie Company, visited Stowe, Ben and Jerry's, Cabot Creamery, Currier's and The Alchemist Brewery where we were lucky enough to buy some Heady Topper. One of my very favorite things was listening to the beautiful and haunting call of the loons.

Sandra was so thoughtful and accommodating, making sure everything was perfect which it certainly was. The night before we left, my 7 year old grandson said he wished we didn't have to leave. That pretty much expressed all our thoughts.

Thank you Sandra and Michael for sharing such a special place with us. Our memories will last a lifetime.
