About Nigel Keery
Hi, my name is Nigel and I am married with 2 children. I live in N.Ireland and look forward every year to staying in the cottage enjoying the lovely villages and countryside and of course great french food. I hope you too will also enjoy your stay and share in the beautiful french lifestyle.
Nigel Keery purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Nigel Keery chose Saint-Paul-la-Roche
The cottage has all the mod-cons but still retains the charm of a dwelling built over 150 years ago. It is set in a beautiful area and bounded by orchards with peace and quiet to be enjoyed. It has a private pool for you to enjoy and affords you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the quietness or use the cottage as a great base to explore the wonderful area and villages and all they have to offer. You will also get great communication with the owner and be assured all will be in order for your stay.

Tranquillity in the Dordogne
We have just spent a delightful fortnight at this property.
We chose this house after much Googling in part because of the many excellent reviews it received, and they proved very accurate. Communications with Nigel, the owner, were very good - his replies were always swift, helpful and very warm. We felt completely confident that he would be a fine host and that any problems would be dealt with fast.
The house comprises basically two large rooms downstairs - a vast sitting area grouped into tv, dining and lounging, and a good-sized and well equipped kitchen, in which it was a joy to cook the wonderful local produce. Off, there is a utility room with washer and drier, and a bathroom with a satisfyingly savage shower.
The bedrooms are accessed by a beautiful spiral staircase, which requires a bit of extra vigilance on the part of toddlers or anyone with mobility issues. The bedrooms themselves are quaintly furnished and well supplied with comfy beds, and fans in case of extreme heat. Holidaymakers who are travelling in non-family groups should know that one of the double bedrooms is accessed through another. Off the middle bedroom is the lovely balcony you an see over the front door in the pictures; it has cane sofas and chairs and a table for drinks, and is a wonderful spot to have an aperitif while watching the sunset.
Outside, there is a large rough grassy area, bounded by trees and hedgerows (myrtles and plums for the picking) which would be wonderful for children to run riot on. The pool area does not have justice done by the on-line photos, which do not show its open aspect to full advantage. It is well maintained and the water beautifully clean, and the retractable cover holds the warmth so that a pre-breakfast dip is a pleasure rather than a trial. There are loungers, chairs and umbrellas that can provide any configuration of sun or shade you want. The same applies to the two patio dining areas. Just a word of advice: the mornings at The Cottage are especially lovely, with vast views over rolling countryside, often absolutely clear azure skies and total peace save the chatter of your resident flock of sparrows. But the sun does take a while to get over the hedge, so if you want to enjoy alfresco breakfast, take a jumper!
This is a lovely house in a beautiful area with a charming and helpful host, and we cannot recommend it more highly. Merci beaucoup, Nigel and Geraldine.
Hi Janet and Tony thanks for your lovely review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and made good use of the private pool and balcony for an evening drink. I hope you will stay with us again and best wishes. Nigel
We spent an enjoyable week at this house. Plenty to do locally - caves, chateaus and quiet roads for cycling. Pool was a definite bonus on hot days. Would recommend.
Many thanks Graham really pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon.
Quaint and quirky cottage
This is our second visit to this cottage. The location is quiet and peaceful and the cottage itself is very well appointed and although has been updated in recent years it still retains that charming character of a French country cottage. The weather was warm and sunny when we were there and the private pool is a real bonus just next to the house. There is also an outdoor barbeque and outdoor dining for those al fresco evenings. All in all a lovely place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, yet not too rural should you wish to explore the many charming market towns in the surrounding area. Highly recommended.
Thanks for taking the time to write your lovely review. It’s always great to hear that folk have enjoyed their stay at the cottage and enjoy it as much as we do. It’s a great base to explore the beautiful area and yes the pool is great for those hot sunny days. Look forward to you staying with us again, regards Nigel

Wonderful Property in a Perfect Setting
We had a lovely week at Nigel's property! Peaceful and secluded, a perfect place to unwind and shut off from the world! Found a lovely swimming lake nearby with beach and small play park which we and the kids loved (in Nantheuil). Lots to do in the area, but also great time just spent in the garden, next to the pool or on the balcony with a book. It was great to have the pool and would stress to all future families with young children, the pool alarm is truly a lifesaver and works as it should, as it was tested by out 2 year old within 30 minutes of arriving at the property! Thankfully all was fine and once all had recovered from the shock the experience actually made all 3 of our children more sensible around the pool.
The photographs do not do this property justice and is a lovely welcome when you first arrive to discover the area and space inside and out which is included! Would recommend to anyone in search of peace, quiet and a true family get away!
Thank you Nigel

Thanks for saying you would recommend it to anyone in search of peace, quiet and a family get away, we have always thought that and it's great you felt the same.
Yes a good book on the balcony is a great way to while away a few hours, my wife will agree with you on that!!
Hope you will stay with us again in the future and many thanks for trusting your well earned holiday to us.
Thank you for your great review. Delighted you had a great time and enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Look forward to you staying with us again next year. Kind regards Nigel
We are situated in the North east Dordogne, Aquitaine, close to the perigordian capital of Perigueux and the very beautiful brantome, appropriately called 'the venice of the dordogne'. We are also also perfectly situated to explore the tresors of occitania with its rich cultural and historical buildings, chateaux and bastides. The Atlantic coast is just 2-3hours distant by car. There are also many local lakes within easy reach offering a wide range of water sports and other facilities including dining.
Other Activities: Panning for gold and excellent Canoeing
Golf: We have not featured Golf as part of our promotion however, we can recommend both courses in either Perigueux
or Limoges, all within equal distance of under one hour drive.
19th hole and restaurant inclusive. All equipment provided.
