Adequate but not nice
I felt the pictures were a bit misleading and I was frustrated with the level of cleanliness. There was not enough hot water to fill the tub even one third the way. The massage chair, from the 1990s, and the sauna and foos-ball table were crammed in a small shed outside. The house had a dog odor, which would have been fine if I were not allergic to dogs. There was a nest of yellow jackets in the bush right out the front door so we had to dodge them coming in and out. Stink bugs were living in the kitchen vent hood and 5 fell out onto the stove when I started boiling a pot of water. The old thermostat was difficult to position to a precise temperature for inside the house, which is actually a manufactured home. On the upside, it is very private and the small fire pit area down the hill makes for a fun little outing. He did leave a bottle of water in the fridge for us and was accommodating to our change in dates.
Beautiful house. Had everything we needed for our 10 Days stay, amazing location, view of mountain.
We have stayed at this house for 10
Days ski vacation with kids. House had everything we needed, extra blankets, huge bathtub - kids had fun running around the house, enjoyed the bunk beds. Kitchen equipped with all you need for home cooking, bonus was all condiments and bathing stuff was already there. We have enjoyed the game room, sauna , snow and turkey running around. The owner John lives close by, so we felt pretty save , in case we need anything - it would be easy to get a hold of him.
Great pieceful hideaway... with a fantastic view.
I couldnt have found a better place to take my team for a get away. Loved the treck up in the hills to a house that was not bothered by neighbors. It was as if we were the only ones there. John made the most of this house with a firepit that has a view. The game/sauna building was a nice touch. We are already planning the next trip.
2012 Ski Trip
We have been going skiing in Feb for the last 5 years to Gatlinburg, Tn and decided to try a different area this year in Banner Elk, NC. The Cabin was one of the best we have stayed in. The cabin was about 12 miles from either Ski area and we really enjoyed the drive back and forth. We even saw a beaver one day and there is a really neat goat barn ( I forget the road but you wil see it). Mr John was very helpful with any questions that we had and we really enjoyed our ski trip this year.
Great place to stay. We had trainings to go to in Boone and just made a long weekend out of it. The house had everything to offer, so we were able to eat in quite a bit. Would recommend this house to anyone. The dogs that went with us enjoyed the exploration too!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay,as the house had everything you could ask for and more to offer. John (one of the owners) even came down to the house and showed us how to operate the TV. The hot tub and massage chair sure felt wonderful after a three hour hike in the mountains. If you have a vehicle that can make the climb up to the house then this is the house for you.
Candy and family were excellent renters and left the house in awesome condition. Candy even did the laundry as she knew we had guests arriving early. She's right about our mountain roads being an adventure! We've lived here for 17 years and still drive slowly. But the cool mountain air and spectacular views make it all worthwhile. Candy, you and your family are welcome any time! In 2013 we removed the hot tub and replaced it with the sauna.
