This is an attractive ground floor flat in a Victorian town house, and was completely renovated in 2010. It is on a quiet residential street, yet as centrally located as it gets. 'Restaurant Row', a stretch of Massachusetts Avenue with numerous restaurants, is only one block away.

You will not need a car. In terms of size, the flat is ideal for a couple, or perhaps a couple with a child. It is also suitable for seniors, because the entrance is at street level and there are no stairs. The flat is totally independent from the main house above, with a separate entrance, mechanical systems, phone line, etc. To sum it up, this little place is small in size, but big on charm!

How Reservations Work:

We picked this home expressly for vacation rental use, with the hindsight of having lived in this area for close to twenty years. It is just ideally situated with a combination of easy access to the major sites, and quiet once back home.

What makes this townhome unique

The location! This is a place which is extremely quiet, where you are the shortest possible distance to the major DC attractions, and where you feel safe walking at any hour of night or day. It's a neighborhood that is utterly livable. There is wonderful grocery shopping nearby, restaurants you would visit with the family, bookstores, etc. Metro is a few blocks away if you need to go beyond walking range.

Convenient to all the locations we wanted to visit. Seemed to be a safe neighborhood. Lots of families playing in Stanton Park. Gives you a glimpse into what it would be like to live there. The Welcome to Stanton Park pdf that Alec sends is very useful. Perfect place for the two of us. Clean. Great soft towels. We found the Union Pub restaurant next to the Capitol Hill Supermarket was reasonably priced and had very good food. As Alec says, there are several restaurants near the flat. We would stay there again.

Absolutely Perfect! Was exactly as described! Great Neighborhood, great location!

We needed a place to stay while moving my daughter to Washington DC for an internship and I chose this Flat based solely on its proximity to her new temporary home but was so pleasantly surprised by the Flat itself. Very comfortable for 3 people, felt a lot bigger than it is and had everything we could need for our stay. Nice little touches like starter shampoo, plenty of towels and blankets and a great little kitchen. The Flat was clean and bright and we felt like a part of a great community while we were there, the neighbors were so friendly and helpful. Will definitely rent again on future visits.

My husband and I visited from Atlanta and were very satisfied with this property. We were in town for a quick 4 day trip, and this property is great for getting in and out of the city/Mall area without wasting too much time and money in commutes. We used Uber to/from airport and to get to the monuments/tourist attractions every day. Because the place is near to downtown, it's only a $6.80/15min drive each way (and $15 to Reagan Airport). The location is walkable to the Capitol, but due to so much walking once you get there, we opted to use Uber to/from the Mall area.

It was great being near Union Station (10 min walk)/Restaurant Row for food options in the evening. The Capitol Hill supermarket nearby is certainly well stocked, but you'll pay for the convenience! I do wish there'd been a nearer free standing coffeehouse. There are 2 Starbucks in Union Station but they're a zoo at peak hours due to daily commuters, and the other coffee options nearby are actual cafes. You could certainly pop in and just order a to go coffee but I never did that. That being said, there may have been one that I never found (I didn't do much exploring in the actual neighborhood).

The area is very safe for walking, relatively quiet and pedestrian friendly... none of which are true near downtown Atlanta! Because we've lived overseas in the past, it was nice for us to be back in a pedestrian friendly community.

My only reason for 4 stars is only that the apartment finishings/interior weren't my preference. The apartment was very clean and adequately stocked (with the exception of no coffee mugs, only teacups) but felt a bit sterile/cold, not warm or "homey." There's a great utilization of such a small space (a perfect Ikea showroom!), great linens, towels, etc... but it wasn't incredibly inviting or relaxing if you were to stay for an extended period of time. Again, just my taste... it'd be exactly what others may be looking for.

Overall, a great place... I'd recommend to anyone who'd be out most of the day doing the typical tourist thing, but not entirely a "getaway" property if you'd be spending a lot of time @ the rental or having folks over (if you were visiting people in the city). Alec was super! Due to a change in our departure plans on our last day, he allowed us to delay our checkout until our flight that evening at 5pm (so thankful for that!). You'd be happy staying here and his listing is an accurate portrayal of the property... we enjoyed it!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the detailed review. I just wanted to add that there is a SUPER free standing coffeehouse two blocks away. I highly recommend Jacob's Coffee House, it's a personal favorite.

The house is located on a quiet friendly street less than half a block from Stanton Park and one block from Restaurant Row, a block of restaurants with tables right on the sidewalk. Capitol Hill is a historical conservation neighborhood of beautifully maintained, charming old houses. It has a small-town feel and a human scale, is cosmopolitan, and has a thriving cultural scene. The residential area closest to Washington's institutions, it is home to a large number of politicians and VIPs.
