About Alec Smyth
My wife and I are both management consultants who have traveled widely for decades, and have developed a strong sense of what we like in a locale and in accommodations. We actively manage our vacation rentals as a future retirement plan, but we select and prepare them by asking a simple test question -- would we be happy to live in them ourselves?
Alec Smyth purchased this Townhouse in 2010
Why Alec Smyth chose Eastern Market
We picked this home expressly for vacation rental use, with the hindsight of having lived in this area for close to twenty years. It is just ideally situated with a combination of easy access to the major sites, and quiet once back home.
What makes this Townhouse unique
The location! This is a place which is extremely quiet, where you are the shortest possible distance to the major DC attractions, and where you feel safe walking at any hour of night or day. It's a neighborhood that is utterly livable. There is wonderful grocery shopping nearby, restaurants you would visit with the family, bookstores, etc. Metro is a few blocks away if you need to go beyond walking range.
100% refund if cancelled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if cancelled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Location couldn’t be more perfect
Great location, hop across Stanton Park to all DC sights. Bike shares close by and great eateries too.
lovely place to stay on Capital Hill in DC
We had a great stay here. It's an easy walk to Union Station and to the Eastern Market. We walked to the Newseum and all the museums and monuments. Great restaurants nearby, too. Well equipped kitchen and nice bathroom (especially the shower). Perfect for two people. We would definitely stay here again.
Close to all the DC action
This house was only a 15 minute walk from Union Station and from the Capitol. It was nice to have it at street level since walking is definitely needed wherever you go. Kitchen well stocked with dishes and utensils. Worked well for a couple and one child.
3-night business trip
The apartment was clean, safe, quiet and convenient to Capital Hill. A short 5-10 walk to 5 tasty restaurants. Perfect for business trip, I recommend this place.
Clean, well set up for travelers! Our second time at this place!
Weekend with my grandson
This house was a short walk away from many activities on the national mall where grandson and I were able to spend precious time together. The owner was most accommodating and quickly responded to any question I had.
The house is located on a quiet friendly street less than half a block from Stanton Park and one block from Restaurant Row, a block of restaurants with tables right on the sidewalk. Capitol Hill is a historical conservation neighborhood of beautifully maintained, charming old houses. It has a small-town feel and a human scale, is cosmopolitan, and has a thriving cultural scene. The residential area closest to Washington's institutions, it is home to a large number of politicians and VIPs.
Other Activities: US Congress, Smithsonian, Newseum, Library of Congress, National Archives, Folger Shakespeare
