Photos and Description of this Ruidoso holiday cabin

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Casa Angeles is located in the Lincoln National Forest just two miles off a main road in Ruidoso. Perched at the foot of a mountain on one and one-half acres, the quiet serenity of the surroundings make it a perfect getaway for couples or individuals looking for a spiritual retreat in nature. Cedar Creek runs throughout the property with the delightful sound cascading water falls. All the wildlife stop by for a delicious drink of cool water.

The cabin has one bedroom upstairs in the loft that accesses a private deck where deer, birds and other wildlife will pass by. The second bedroom is downstairs, making privacy for two couples. The cabin has central heat, ceiling fans and wood stove. Casa Angeles was built in 2004 and is the owners' second home. They have furnished it in a way that makes you feel like it's your home too. The kitchen is fully stocked with staples and cookware making it easy to go to the store for the main items and prepare delicious meals in the comfort of your retreat. There's a washer/dryer supplied with eco-friendly products for your convenience.

The unique benefits at this Cabin: Casa Angeles represents peace and tranquility. There's only one other cabin in sight. The cabin is stocked with everything you need to come in and make yourself at home. The deck in the back is the perfect perch to sip on your favorite beverage and watch the deer, elk or turkey go by. There's great hiking without driving anywhere but if you choose to go into town it's only 5 minutes. Best of all worlds.

About Russell and Beckie Forsyth

We are Russell and Beckie Forsyth from Austin, Texas. We have been visiting New Mexico...The Land of Enchantment for over 30 years thanks to friends that moved there. Summer 2001 was just too hot in Santa Fe so we checked the weather for the coolest spot in the state. It was Ruidoso. We drove in and fell in love with the community, the weather and the landscape. Over the next 5 years we kept visiting and visualizing our own home there. In 2006 we were blessed with selling a property in Austin that made it possible. Just when the money was there Casa Angeles was waiting for us...just as we had visualized with privacy, close to town, easy access and living water. We're so blessed!

Russell and Beckie Forsyth purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Russell and Beckie Forsyth chose New Mexico

Our vision was to have a property that felt remote but wasn't. The tall pines, running creek and the privacy in a setting that was quiet were all things that made Casa Angeles the perfect place for us.

What makes this cabin unique

Casa Angeles represents peace and tranquility. There's only one other cabin in sight. The cabin is stocked with everything you need to come in and make yourself at home. The deck in the back is the perfect perch to sip on your favorite beverage and watch the deer, elk or turkey go by. Guestbook comments from the owner

dear forsyths , my wife and I stayed at casa Angeles oct 8-13. We wish to thank you for sharing your home with us . It was great to leave the heat of the valley and cool off in r. It was 40s at night and 60s in day. We did the usual tourist stuff , walked in the woods a lot and slept late. Everything was perfect with the house . We did stumble into a "cowboy reunion" events at the race track . Probably 5k people there and world class country western music . It is apparently annual . Thanks B

Perfect get-away

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful cabin.. This actually encouraged us to look at properties nearby. We just closed on our own get away just down the street!! This area is by far the nicest in town... Check out the views this property has to offer and take advantage of the hiking and near-by town.

Serene Location Surrounded by Nature

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from an absolutely wonderful time at Casa Angeles. This home is located among the trees and backs up to a mountain which makes it very peaceful. The owners were great to work with and have done such an amazing job of designing this beautiful home—from the rustic furniture and southwest décor to the subtle paintings on some of the walls. The home is well stocked with all of the essentials provided and was immaculately clean. We loved the fact that nature trails in the national forest are minutes away from Casa Angeles. Also loved the fact that the house is minutes from downtown although you would never know it when you are at the house. Casa Angeles is truly an amazing place to kick back and relax and commune with nature and our creator. Highly recommend this rental.

Beautiful cabin set in wooded surroundings with all the amenities!

  • 4 of 5

Casa Angeles is a wonderful cabin to stay at and it is clean and well equipped and we loved being on the deck and soaking in the sun as well as hearing and seeing the many birds that were around. Unfortunately we didn't see any deer or elk but that is what happens with nature. We enjoyed the movie selection provided in the evenings and we also enjoyed using the discs to play disc golf at Grindstone Park. I am only giving it 4 stars since it still was not as we had expected in regards to the seclusion. It is true that you have one visible neighbor, but I had the idea that it was more isolated than it is since it is on a road with many of these new cabins around(not so much in view), but there is some road traffic and we had just stayed at more isolated places in Colorado, Santa Fe and Taos before coming here which also changed our perspective. That said, it still has many great features and we enjoyed cooking dinner there each night too!

Owner's Response: Kerry, thank you for your review of Casa Angeles. Your perspective will be very helpful for others. As much as we enjoy 5-star reviews we understand your perspective on isolation vs. privacy. I'm glad the other amenities made your visit a good one. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. Warmly, Beckie & Russell

Perfect place to reconnect with old friends

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with old friends at this cabin. It was just right for 2 couples. Very quaint and cozy. Loved the stream running through the front of the property, very tranquil setting and there were lots of deer to watch. The owner was very helpful and easy to reach. She made several recommendations that we are glad we checked out in Ruidoso. The cabin has a large DVD library but you will need to bring your own games/cards to play if you like that sort of thing. It was very clean and well stocked and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Lots of wildlife

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the cabin. We saw a herd of deer, two different groups of wild turkeys, and two elk that were munching right outside our window, as well as countless birds. The cabin itself was comfortable with everything we needed. The only things it needed to be perfect were air conditioning (we were there in the middle of summer) and WiFi.

Owner's Response: Cynthia, thank you for your response. The wildlife love our place in part to the creek. It's not running much right now but there's still enough water for them to drink. We just returned from a visit ourselves and for the first time we saw hummingbirds taking a bath. Sweet! It's hard to imagine, but this review is the first comment in 10 years about the cabin needing AC. Last week (July 26-30) the temps were 70's to 50's and that is typical. We had folks in town that said there had been a hot spell that was the warmest in anyones memory and I know it was in the time frame that you were there. The locals were shocked at how hot it got. As a result, we are considering some kind of cooling for next year in case it happens again. As far as WIFI, it's a nature retreat and we prefer to have it stay a place to escape. Since there's so many hotspots in town, there's always a way to connect when away from the cabin. Thanks again for your input and we hope you will visit again. Sincerely, Beckie & Russell

Ruidoso is a ski resort village but summers are perfect. Cool temperatures make for great nature outings of all kinds. You can also find museums, shopping, horse racing, theater among the past times. At the Casa it's peace and quiet with wildlife and a good book that are the best.

Hiking, walking and being in nature is the big attraction at Casa A. The silence of the secluded area with the sound of Cedar Creek as it falls over beautiful rocks make it a perfect place to contemplate life and journal your heart out. New Mexico enacts measures to protect their night sky, therefore, the star gazing is wonderful on clear nights. When you tire of the silence, you can watch movies or listen to music or go into town and shop, visit the museums or reserve a night at the Spencer Theatre.

Ruidoso installed a fabulous 18 hole disc golf course at Grindstone Lake. It's mountain golf at it's best. This course hosted the New Mexico Disc Golf Championships here in 2013. If you don't have your own discs, there's some at the casa to use during your stay.

Other Activities: shopping, snowboarding, wildlife viewing, spa, mini golf
