About Sally Brinkmann
I'm a retired English teacher and a writer. My writing often draws on the color and history of the local area. My granddaughter helps with cleaning, yard work and the web page. She is also interested in the local history.
Sally Brinkmann purchased this Farmhouse in 1975
Why Sally Brinkmann chose Berkeley Springs
When my husband bought the Old Homestead and the farm in 1975, saplings were growing out of the windows. He renovated it, and lived there for a few years. It was rented out for many years, and slipped into a state of disrepair. In 2001, I began the second renovation, and researched its history. I found old courthouse records and deeds in both Virginia and West Virginia.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
I live down the driveway from the property, so I enjoy the convenience of being located only 1.6 miles from Berkeley Springs. I often attend plays and gallery shows at the Morgan County Arts Council center, the Ice House. My family, friends, and I frequent the many restaurants in town, namely Earth Dog Cafe, The Country Inn,Tari's Premier Cafe and Mi Ranchito. For special occasions we go to Lot Twelve Public House. In Hancock, MD, visit Buddy Lou's Eats, Drinks and Antiques on the canal.

Our second stay at this charming old farmhouse.
This lovingly appointed old farmhouse provides all the modern essentials while maintaining the old fashioned rustic charm of an antique house. Conveniently located to center of Berkeley Springs and nearby activities, yet secluded on a large quiet property with its own pond and restful surrounding views. Thank you , Sally for another lovely getaway from the city.
The House is super old, but very well maintained and full of character. Sally was a super host and We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was stocked with everything you could possibly need. We rode our bikes on the trails (you better be in good shape for some of those hills!) And we enjoyed our walks to the pond.
Peace of paradise
We enjoyed every moment of our stay. It’s a very secluded property and you can take a walk around 200 acres of it. Nice treat to get to a pond for a dip. Our German shepherd enjoyed it as well and already asking us to take him back. House is cozy with a wanderfull porch. Everything is done with attention to details. Sally is a very accommodating hostess. We will be back. Thank you.
The house was great - cozy, tucked away, yet still close to restaurants, coffee shop, etc. We especially loved lounging on the porch and visiting the pond!
Matt, You were great guests. Hope you return soon.
A relaxing trip back in time
My wife and I love The Old Homestead. It is beautifully decorated with antiques, and such a great history. Sally stopped by and chatted with us. As my wife is a writer, it was great hearing about Sally's books; copies are at the sight. Our dogs loved the peace and quiet too.
There were some serious storms while we stayed, but it didn't really matter. We golfed at The Woods and Cacapon during our stay. 15 minutes away for both. Didn't make it over to Lot 12 this time :( Buddy Lous on the next trip! We will be back!!! Matt
Matt, Thanks so much for your review, especially with the weather you had! You and your wife (and dogs) were great guests. I know this was your second visit, hope you return again. Sally
The beds were all very comfortable. The kitchen had everything needed to cook real meals. The front porch, grill and outdoor dining table made for a nice outdoor space. And the pond was perfect for meditation and fish watching. A visit from the orange Koi is sure to bring good luck.
