In the lively 5th arrondissement, home to the Sorbonne and Luxembourg Gardens is a wonderful jewel of an apartment that awaits you as your home away from home. A five minute walk brings you to rue Mouffetard, one of the oldest market streets in Paris. Here you will find a wonderful mix of outdoor fresh food stands, food shops and wonderful restaurants.

The apartment is located closest to the Censier/Daubenton metro on line 7 and is within a 10 minute walk from the Port Royal stop on the RER B with direct trains from CDG and Orly Airports (Orly uses a shuttle train to transport passengers to the Antony stop where the RER B is available.)

Nestled on a quiet street, in a quiet interior courtyard, this lovely one bedroom apartment of 42 square meters (450 sq. feet) has all of the conveniences that any traveler could want. One of the first things you notice is how homey and welcoming the owners have made this apartment. That is because, unlike an apartment that has been furnished as a rental unit, the owners of this apartment live here several months a year. They have set it up and furnished it as they would like to live and you as their guests, reap the rewards.

Heated with gas heat, with unlimited hot water, the system’s remote control can be set to give you the perfect temperature for day or night comfort. The thermal insulated double paned windows and door to the garden are designed to help keep the apartment comfortable, no matter what the temperature. Large space saving radiators insure that heat is evenly and efficiently distributed in all rooms, making a visit in colder months as much a pleasure as the warmer months. In fact, with less crowds to deal with, staying here in the late fall and winter is a delightful way to experience a less crowded Paris. And now, in case the summer turns too warm for comfort, we offer a brand new, high-end air conditioner. Quiet and comfortable, this air conditioner allows you to set a comfortable temperature so you are cool inside.

Another wonderful thing about this apartment is its lovely private garden. Hedged all around, the space is a private little oasis in which to enjoy an afternoon drink or a pleasant meal. There is a wooden deck with a resin table which seats four comfortably or a smaller round bistro table for more intimate moments. The French door in the living room leads out to this wonderful added attraction.

A separate bedroom, with a large window looking out on your private garden is sunny and bright. Ample closet space, a comfortable double bed with comfy linens, a flat screen TV with BBC and CNN, a telephone with free calls to 139 countries, including the US, DSL WI-FI internet access, this apartment has it all.

The living room is spacious with a very comfortable double sized sofa bed, a drop leaf table which seats four comfortably, plenty of books to read and guide books to inform, a CD-collection for your listening pleasure, a radio/CD/cassette combination with great sound, an i-Pod speaker dock and a wonderful reading light.

In addition to the sofa, there are two incredibly comfortable Phillipe Starck designed chairs so four people can relax in comfort. The coffee table is on wheels and is very easy to maneuver to allow for the opening of the sofa bed. A dramatic glass and iron display unit contains wonderful pieces of glass and pottery collected by the owners. Everywhere you look is the art work of a home that reflects that someone lives here, not some sterile hotel room,

The recently renovated “American” kitchen has everything one could want to prepare a meal. With all the wonderful markets nearby, we know you’ll be tempted to try your hand at French cooking. But if you don't want to cook there are tons of restaurants nearby and within easy walking distance if the most you want to make is coffee. A breakfast bar and stools allows for easy dining for 2 people.

All brand new appliances welcome you, including an induction stove top, convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and a small toaster/oven. Plentiful pots, pans, casseroles, spices and cooking utensils are available as well.

The windowed bathroom has everything you would expect and more. Two separate heaters (one electric near the shower, the other, working off the gas unit which heats the apartment,near the toilet) are available to insure you are toasty warm when you emerge from the recently renovated and enlarged tiled shower. With a choice of two shower heads and unlimited hot water, this is great way to unwind after a long day of touring.

With small hotel rooms in Paris around 200 euros and the strength of the euro compared to the dollar, this apartment is a marvelous value.

A small but homey one bedroom apartment in a wonderful area of Paris

"Jewel in Paris" was just that--a well-appointed and thoughtfully stocked apt.in a genuine French neighborhood with few tourists. Being so near the lively market street, Rue Moufftard, was a big plus, with good restaurants and cafes very close by. We walked and took the metro everywhere; the proximity to the RER stop at Port Royale from CDG is also a plus.

Amy, the owner, was very responsive, to my inguiries before the trip and even sent keys beforehand so we could enter the apt. in the morning. All in all we had a wonderful experience and would stay here again.

Wonderful get-away

I can only echo what other reviewers have already said. This is a wonderful apartment and Amy was the perfect "hostess" for our 11 night stay. The location was fabulous as it was close enough to the Paris tourist highlights, but far enough away to feel that you were truly living in a Parisian neighborhood. The apartment was well-appointed with very clear instruction that made settling in very easy. Amy's suggestions for local restaurants, markets and boulangeries were very helpful though I must say that we visited the boulangerie a few too many times!

What a differenced when an owner views the apartment as a home rather than purely a business. Thanks for helping us have a fabulous trip.

Cozy, Quiet, Complete

Enjoyed our stay in this quiet apartment; it was everything we needed to enjoy Paris. The enclosed courtyard buffered any noise, and offered a place for the restless to wander and stretch legs. The portable AC was available, but unnecessary with the deliciously cool nights. The kitchen was completely equipped. Plenty of blankets in case weather should turn arctic, and a fold out couch for ten year old daughters. Enjoyed the surrounding neighborhoods, and found the shopkeepers here friendly and relaxed. Walked to the Seine, The Louvre, Tour D'Eiffel, The Pantheon, Luxembourg gardens. Ubered back from the Eiffel Tower, the furthest of our tourist locales, as it was late, and we had tired legs.

Amy was very responsive to all our questions before and after arriving, and made clear exactly what our responsibilities were. Happy to stay here again.

Tranquil retreat in the city

I stayed here for three nights with my mother and sister, and we had a wonderful time. The apartment is so cozy, and perfectly equipped - you do not need to bring anything except fresh food, which you can buy on the fabulous Rue Mouffetard market street just around the corner. The owners provide many detailed and thoughtfully written instructions and tips -- from getting there and getting in, to the best local places to go, to how various things in the apartment work -- that there is nothing for visitors to worry about. The apartment is at the back of a quiet courtyard, and there's a lovely, private terrace right outside the living room door. We picked up fresh croissants each morning (the owners tell you which local baker is best) and ate breakfast on the terrace every day. It was like having an extra room, and was so peaceful and quiet--despite being in the heart of Paris. Communication with Amy was very easy, and she was very quick to respond, and generously accommodated requests (like a late check-out).

I recommend this one highly, and can't wait to go back!

Very plesant apartment in a terrific location

The apartment consists of a living room, a bedroom, a small kitchen, and a bathroom, as well as a terrace that you access from the living room. The bed is comfortable with plenty of pillows, and the linens are especially nice. Everything was clean and in good condition, and the pictures are accurate. The kitchen has good-quality appliances and is well stocked with equipment. The owner, Amy, has been especially thoughtful in providing detailed information in the apartment about pretty much everything you need to know: how to use the various equipment, what to do with trash, etc. Amy was also very responsive to any and all questions that I had, and she has provided some excellent recommendations. Also note that because it's a ground-floor apartment, you'll have no flights of stairs to deal with (although there are one or two steps at the entrance, for those concerned with accessibility). Biggest downside of the apartment for me is the lack of a washing machine (thus 4 stars instead of 5); however, there is a laundromat nearby.

I love, love, love the location of this apartment. It's set well back from the street (which is a quiet one, anyway), in a residential section of the 5th arrondissment. It's a 5-minute walk to the rue Mouffetard, which is a wonderful shopping street (with several blocks pedestrian-only) where you can pick up your daily foods -- fresh breads, gorgeous cheeses, fruits and vegetables, meats and fish, prepared foods, even ice cream and sorbet from Berthillon. The nearest metro is a block beyond the rue Mouffetard, but bus stops for several lines are just around the corner from the apartment. I much prefer the bus to the subway -- way more relaxing and no stairs to climb up or down -- and the lines near the apartment go directly to places like the Orsay Museum, the Louvre, the big department stores on Blvd Hausmann, Montparnasse station, and many more places. Really, it's an ideal location for getting a feel of living in Paris, not just visiting as a tourist.

Owner's Response: thanks so much, Don for your thoughtful and complete review. It is always helpful for future travelers to hear the thoughts of those who have stayed before. I completely understand your thoughts about the washer/dryer and wanted to give you some background about why we don't have one. When we renovated our kitchen two years ago, we thought long and hard about installing one. Ultimately, we decided not to because of the terribly small capacity of French machines, the complexity of their operating instructions (complex French machinery and tourists often don't mix well) as well as the interminable length of their cycles. That, coupled with the proximity of a big, bright and clean laundromat up the street with the ability to do all our laundry at one time, prompted us to decide against installing one in the apartment. Since we visit Paris twice a year and stay for 6-8 weeks we were also making the decision for ourselves, not just our guests. We do provide laundry detergent, fabric softener and all the other laundry essentials. We truly appreciate your visit and hope you consider us when next you visit Paris. Thanks again, Amy

This was our third visit and everything was in perfect order. It is so nice to come back to a known entity. The apartment has many upgrades since our last visit, making it even more comfortable and inviting.
