About this property

Charming, quiet, historic in-town Nantucket home

Enjoy our great family vacation home - The ''PoorHouse''. For over 50 years the Poor family has enjoyed regular visits and family reunions on Nantucket. We invite you to share our home and our special insider hints on how best to enjoy Nantucket, just as if you, too, have been coming for decades.

Our historic house is in a very quiet neighborhood in town, but just a short 10 minute walk to the bottom of Main Street and all the activity ''downtown'', and an easy bike ride to beaches. There are four bedrooms and three baths, for up to seven guests. There is a large fenced-in yard - great for children. You'll find everything you need for a wonderful visit - linens, beach towels, washer/dryer, gas grill, cable, and wi-fi. The renovated kitchen is comfortably well-appointed. The house is heated for your comfort in chilly weather, with fireplaces downstairs for a warm welcome on a cold day. The house is equipped with window air conditioning.

The PoorHouse is perfect for a long weekend or week or more to create perfect memories. If you are visiting Nantucket for one of the many festivals that take place during the shoulder season (including the Daffodil Weekend, the Film, Dance, Book, Wine and Cranberry Festivals, and Christmas Stroll), or are part of a wedding celebration or reunion, our house is a perfect base of operations. You will have easy access to all the activity, and yet be able to retreat to your quiet home for a much needed break.

With advanced notice, we can help you with special arrangements for golfing, sailing, tennis, a clambake, a fishing trip, catering for a special event...or almost anything you could imagine doing on Nantucket.

Wheel chair ramp available for accessibility; main floor bedroom with twin bed and adjoining bath also for wheel chair accessibility.

Amazing
The Poore house was perfect for our friends getaway to Nantucket. The host was great and the home was very clean. The history was also very cool. We loved being able to walk and bike to town from this location. We will definitely want to come back!

Beautiful historic home and property! David & Pat could not have been nicer! How wonderful for us to arrive at the house to find a lovely 'Welcome Bag' with all kinds of yummy treats too. Thank you again :)

Easy "Stroll" Into Town
My family stayed and at the "PoorHouse" over Christmas Stroll weekend. First of all, the communication and organization of Pat and David, was by far, the best of any owner we have worked with in the past. Having owners who care about their guests makes a trip so much less stressful. Secondly, the home oozes with history yet has today's amenities (best of both worlds). It is a very short/pleasurable walk to town, has a big yard, is on a quiet street and is also close to out-of-town amenities/attractions. My family enjoyed our stay and would recommend the "PoorHouse" to anyone. Thanks Pat & David!

Perfect house and location
The house was in a perfect location for walking to town, or getting anywhere on island, was immaculately clean, and had every amenity we could have needed. We felt comfortable and at home. David and Pat were wonderful hosts. Quick to respond, helpful and accommodating. We can’t wait to come back and stay again.

About the host

Host profile image
Our family has been coming to Nantucket since the late 40's, and at this house since 1951. We are only the fourth owners of this house, built in 1806. Although we now spend most of the year in NYC, we come as often as possible to Nantucket.

Why they chose this property

On Nantucket there is often a tradeoff between convenience and solitude and open space. What we love about 17 Mill Street is that it offers an in town location - only a 10 minute stroll to the bottom of Main Street - while at the same time we have a large back yard and are surrounded by open space and light....and a quiet neighborhood.

What makes this property unique

Often families face a challenge coordinating schedules while on vacation. Our house offers a great base of operations, and yet everyone can come and go easily at their own pace. Everything is within walking or biking distance. And yet you are in one of the quietest neighborhoods in town.
