About Bernard and Jane Hudepohl
We were both born in The Hague in the Netherlands and love travelling. In 1991 we started a trip around the world and fell in love with Bali. We returned several times but after having children mainly had Europe as holiday destination. When we went back to Bali with the family in 2008 we found the perfect place to build our future home in paradise.
Bernard and Jane Hudepohl purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Bernard and Jane Hudepohl chose Pemuteran
When we went back to Bali in 2008, it was a bit of a shock how busy the south was. A lot had changed in 15 years. In Pemuteran we found the relaxed atmosphere that we loved and the conditions that we think will keep this place special for the future. The scenery around the bay is magnificent and for snorkeling and diving it is probably the best spot in Bali. The people are special and the community is very much involved in protecting the area. It is a privilege to be there.
What makes this Villa unique
A friend that stayed with us mentioned that the villa is a destination by itself. He felt so relaxed and just liked being there, enjoying the scenery and listening to the waves. The garden is very large compared to most villas in Bali, giving it a sense of space. The style is traditional and there are many large trees, giving the impression that the house belongs there. Add to the experience a friendly staff that takes care of all your needs and a private boat to explore the area, go fishing and watch the sunset.

Great property in a nice quiet area. Beautiful pool. The food was fantastic and the staff was great.
Peaceful and private retreat
Beautiful private villa set in large garden with amazing pool. The setting is authentic and rural. A true Balinese experience, complete with cows strolling on the beach. We loved watching the sunset from the beachfront deck and enjoyed our meals in the outdoor dining area. The staff were friendly and very attentive and arranged yoga, massages and scooters for us. Thank you for a fabulous week!
Thank you for being our guest ! Your kind review is much appreciated.
With kind regards, Jane
Everything was perfect. Great location, great layout. Food provided via menus was reasonably priced and very good. Staff very accommodating.
Thank you Rob for your kind review, hope we see you again sometime. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Bali.
With kind regards, Jane
Best accommodation ever!
We had a large group of divers and needed a Villa close to diving and large enough to accommodate our group. Bernard was amazing and assisting us—he even found 2 Jobolo’s for the additional people. The food was great (we didn’t eat anywhere else). The villa is walking distance to the Monkey temple. The villa was beautifully maintained and the staff was beyond belief with their service level.
Heavenly Hideaway with Angels on staff!
I was in charge of finding lodging for myself and two esteemed colleagues during our stay in Bali. Let me assure you that Villa Semadhi did not disappoint.
From the moment of arrival to the day of departure we were enthralled with the beauty and elegance of Villa Semadhi. The staff was helpful and available to meet all of our requests and needs. Having a private driver, Made, who really knew the area was invaluable. It was hard to leave the beautiful Villa to take day excursions as it is so blissfully beautiful and peaceful, yet Made made it fun and exciting. Puspa, the property manager, was kind and full of recommendations when asked. I would be completely remiss not to mention the deliciously prepared meals by Jero, the private Chef, who takes Balinese dining to a new height. The entire staff was kind, warm, engaging and helpful.
Another fantastic featrure is the informative outline of things to do in the area. I highly recommend the Buddhist Temple which is under reconstruction. It is a real treat. Reef Seen offers snorkeling off of the shore and is a very short distance from the Villa. There is indeed something for everyone! This was truly an A+ experience for me and my colleagues. Perhaps the highest compliment was from my colleague who stated, "If given the choice to stay at the Ritz or Villa Semadhi, I would choose Villa Semadhi!"
The villa was exactly as described and pictured. Everything was cleaned daily. Puspa was wonderful to work with, giving us suggestions on where to go and what to eat and arranging everything for our family of 8. The cooks did an amazing job at every meal, and even met my husbands request for very spicy sambal and other odd dishes that were not on the villa menu. The food was freshly made and the water was safe to drink. The bay was calm, clear, warm, and easy to swim in. We walked to some local warrungs for lunch, and the kids walked to local shops to buy sodas and junk food. If you are looking for a remote area, this is it. You will have to arrange(Puspa will do this for you), to travel anywhere, and expect at least 2 hour drive. The villa has a book that has suggestions on various activities within the surrounding area. Plus, you can have Puspa arrange other trips for you. The pool and the deck over looking the bay were greatly used. I recommend this villa to all families. We felt safe the entire time and all of our wishes were fulfilled by an amazing staff!
Pemuteran is located in the north west part of Bali. It is an area of natural beauty, away from the tourist crowds in the south of the island. The bay of Pemuteran is surrounded by mountains of the Barat National park. In front you have the Bali sea, that is free of current and perfect for swimming. Here you will find the largest area of shallow coral reefs in Bali, with some unique conservation projects. Menjangan Island as top diving and snorkeling spot is within easy reach. The views are magnificent. To the east of the bay the sun rises over Pulaki temple and the sun sets over the volcanoes on Java. You can reach the famous Ijen crater on a day-trip. Pemuteran is a spiritual place with special energy. You will find some of the most important temples of Bali. Although the area is not crowded, there are many good restaurants and resorts available. Other spots like Lovina or the rain forests around Munduk in the mountains are within easy reach.
