Our apartment was built 600 years ago on the same street where St. Thomas of Canterbury lived while recovering from TB. This fully modernized luxury ground floor flat has large elegant rooms with no stairs and wide doors suitable for wheelchairs. Built by a noble family it has huge windows looking out on the wonderful Tuscan countryside painted by great artist Piero della Francesco, whose famous pictures are in local museums at San Sepulchro, (4 miles) and Arezzo *16 miles. The food cupboard always has bread, milk, butter, sugar and everything for your first breakfast. When you arrive, you will find a bottle of wine and glasses to toast yourselves.. .
In Summer the very high ceilings keep the rooms cool and airy and there are floor fans for hot days. In winter the gas central heating system keeps the apartment warm within its thick outside walls.
Italian shoes, cashmere sweaters and high fashion outlet shoppiing nearby.
We love old walled towns, old buildings, castles and churches. My husband and I have known Anghiari for twenty years. As academics teaching at American universities, we get the chance to take long Summer breaks. We love the riches of art and architecture around us. We are also walkers; there are great opportunities for walks ranging from strolls along the banks of the Tiber to serious mountain trekking signposted by the Italian Alpine Club. There are weekly concerts arranged by the town every week in Summer, plus the acclaimed Anghiari Music Festival every year. Everyone remembers the views - dawn over the misty Tiber and then the brilliant colors of the fields and the wonderfully pure and unpolluted mountain air. Then as the sun sinks in the evening, the long shadows produce unforgettable images of rural Tuscany. The wild flowers in the Spring are amazing.
Caroline Sampson purchased this apartment in 2012
This apartment is an elegant Renaissance apartment with soaring ceilings and vista windows looking out over the green Tiber Valley. The building is on the broadwalk on top of the medieval walls of the ancient city of Anghiari, designated by the Italian Tourist Board as one of the 100 prettiest villages in Italy.
When I first came to Anghiari 20 years ago it was not well known, but for me it was love at first sight and now this 800 year old medieval walled village of Anghiari is officially one of Italy’s prettiest villages. The local people are very friendly, especially to visiting Americans, since it was American GIs who liberated the city during WW2. Nestling in the loveliest hills of Tuscany, with Umbria easily accessible, we have found driving to all the other hill villages easy, but none are prettier. The six restaurants and three pizza shops are excellent, but we also love to cook easy Italian dishes ourselves using marvelous fresh vegetables from the market. For a village there are a surprising number of food shops, and two great bakeries, various antique shops, two pharmacies, and a local olive press which has been in business since 1422.
Built on a narrow pedestrians-only street in the medieval quarter, the apartment is in a six hundred year old building. The rooms have wonderful high ceilings that are cool in summer. All rooms are on ground floor level, so there are no steps. Our English speaking agent is always available to help and answer questions, and our housekeeper keeps every room immaculate. Guests continue to comment that staying in Anghiari is quiet and peaceful, far from traffic and modern day noise. For us, it is home from home, and going back to Anghiari every summer is delightful.
This was my second time using Anghiari as a home base from which to explore Tuscany and Umbria, and also my second time finding accommodation through Juliet and Andrew.
On this occasion I stayed in Tiber View having previously used Casa Cantabria in 2010.
This newer apartment is spacious and very recently updated with a wonderful kitchen setup, 2 bathrooms and all the mod cons. Furnishings are tasteful, comfortable and the layout is well suited for 2 couples or friends as the bedrooms are separated by the large living room.
Also, you will find on your arrival everything you need to start living la dolce vita, staples in the kitchen and breakfast items thoughtfully in the fridge. I could go on and on about the quality of the way these units are set up and managed, but the true joy of staying in on of these properties is the location...living in the old wall of a charming town that is not overrun by tourists...where you can shop for fruits and veggies, bread, cheese, etc all during a stroll through history in streets lined with plants, flowers, stone and ironwork...and being greeted as you walk by the locals who still make this a living town and never give the impression you are an intruder or even an outsider.
I can not recommend Anghiari in general and Juliet's lovingly presented apartments in particular more glowingly. Your soul will sing!!!
This review is being written a long time after our stay in Anghiari ( it was actually in May, 2013) but that is not due to a lack of appreciation for this wonderful apartment and absolutely charming town. We were a family group of five with friends renting another equally comfortable apartment of Juliet's just a few doors down. Juliet was incredibly helpful, friendly and patient in the process of booking Tiber View and we found the apartment to be very spacious and incredibly well equipped with wonderful views. Gazing out over the wide valleys from the windows or walking out the doors into the stone alleyways with mediaeval stone buildings rearing above us never palled. We were fortunate to be there for a stage of the Giro d'Italia and sharing this experience with the locals was an unforgettable experience. We loved the apartment and loved Anghiari and its surrounds and would return there to stay given the slightest opportunity.
There is not one thing that we can think of that would have made this rental and our stay in Anghiari more appealing. From the very beginning, any contact with the owners went very smoothly and they were most helpful and prompt answering any questions that we had. They clearly want to make sure that anyone visiting their home enjoys it as much as they do. We were met promptly by Guissepe, their helpful, fun and knowledgeable local manager, and escorted to our dream accommodations. He was only a phone call away during our stay which was very comforting, in case of questions or concerns. The apartment was spacious, comfortable, beautiful and well equipped and the town of Anghiari was more charming than we could have ever anticipated. The local people that we met were friendly and welcoming and understanding of our limited Italian. We ate one night at "De Alighiero" and had a fantastic meal that was well worth the splurge. Throughout our 4 day stay, if we hadn't been so busy enjoying local cheeses, meats and wines from the grocery and preparing meals in the well appointed kitchen, we would certainly have eaten there again! On our last night, we enjoyed delicious pizza from "Bar Pizzeria Baldeccio". We could go on and on, but suffice it to say that we are glad that we chose Anghiari and this delightful home in particular. Staying here for the final four days of our 9 day trip to Italy was a very good choice. A big thank you to Juliet and Andrew and Guissepe for making this home available.
We couldn't have been happier with the property. From the moment we arrived and called Guiseppe til the moment 5 days later when we sadly closed and locked our door we loved Anghiari. We ate some great meals and used Guiseppe's book as a guide and went to San Marino.
We also did a wine tasting at Monte Vibiano winery about 2 hrs away, a beautiful eco friendly winery where the people could not have been more accomodating and the wine an Olive oil were great. Stopped in Deruta on the way home and did some great shopping.
What really made this special was the care that Juliett showed from the moment I talked to her the first time. I just hope that we can go back one day.
We chose Tiber View based upon Juliet's thorough description of the features of this newly renovated apartment situated in one of the most beautiful and pristine hill towns we have ever seen. Tiber View's agent, Guiseppe, introduced us to Anghiari and Juliet's apartment. Guiseppe is very knowledgeable about the surrounding hill towns, and has authored a beautiful book about the area with suggested day trips, which we thoroughly enjoyed and followed.
It was such a treat to find breakfast supplies waiting for us as well as a bottle of wine after our long journey from the states. Our party consisted of two sisters and their husbands.
The apartment is in a wonderful location, a short stroll to town, where there was a variety and quality of fresh produce, including strawberries, kiwis, and blood oranges, and rocket grown in Italian soil, groceries and the most wonderful croissants we have ever tasted. We enjoyed sitting around the kitchen table and planning a meal. Tiber View's kitchen with it's high end appliances and plenty of cookware, dinnerware, and glassware was a joy to cook in.
We spent our days walking through the ancient alleys, visiting churches and museums that house important relics and artifacts from the middle ages marveling at the culture, and traveling to other nearby hill towns, not to mention always finding the best pizza and a variety of wonderful restaurants featuring locally grown mushrooms and beef that would be hard to top anywhere.
At the end of the day, it was so wonderful to return to the spacious accommodations and relax in the lovely living room and recount our experiences of the day with wonderful background music. The views from the many windows are breathtaking and we were amazed at how soundproof the apartment is. Juliet has thought of every amenity one could hope for including guide books , brochures and very comfortable beds.
Of all the places throughout Italy we have stayed, Tiber View was most definitely our favorite, and we would not think twice about returning.
Easy access to the world's best art galleries in Florence, Sienna, Arezzo, Perugia. Great architecture in medieval hilltop towns.
