We really enjoyed staying here. Communication with the owner was quick and clear, and we had no issues finding the place and getting settled. The interior was very well-maintained and clean, and felt like a well-loved family ski cabin. The kitchen is well-outfitted and the living space very comfortable. Visiting in summer, the air flow through the windows cooled the house off very well at night and the standalone A/C took the edge off effectively during the day. Since we're travelling with little kids, one of the best parts of this location is that's it's literally a 6 minute walk from the StoryLand gates, without having to walk on the main road. We'll likely stay here every time we're staying on the East side of the national park.
The price was good. Bathrooms and kitchen sink, floors, toilets, etc. were clean. But the chalet could use a good cobweb sweeping. The carpet could use a good cleaning too.
Issue with trash. The policy listed in the chalet was that you have to take all trash with you and take to the transfer station, one mile away. One mile in the wrong direction for us to go home and one mile away from N. Conway where most of the activities are. But that's an aside. The big issue is that check out time is 11 am, and the transfer station doesn't open until 12 noon. I'd rather pay $5 extra and not have to either wait somewhere for the transfer station to open, or haul the trash, that can be smelly, all the way home.
Another issue was that I didn't hear from the owner/manager about check in details. It was the Mon. before our Wed. check in and I still hadn't heard. I emailed, with no answer. I called and got an outgoing message that said the voice mailbox was full. I texted and got no response. Finally I called the VRBO 800 customer service number. After spending at least 5 min. with the call center in the Philippines, I was sent on to the next level of customer service. This center had a few other contact numbers for the chalet and I was able to connect with a family member who owns the chalet. This was A LOT of unnecessary time spent on my part.
One of the things we really have enjoyed about VRBO in the past is that when working with an owner you have a de facto host for the region. My future texts inquiring about the area were not answered.
I would not rent this chalet again.
We had to much fun on our trip. The house was amazing and in a great location. The owner was so helpful and easily available.
It's our first time in this area. We wanted to see the foliage & we we were so lucky to see the peak of the season along w/ the great weather & sunshine to take pictures & drive around. Property location is great. Everything is accessible, from gas to food to groceries, scenic views, attractions etc. We love the house, kitchen is very functional, beds are comfortable & house is well equipped. We will definitely recommend this place to our friends and family.
Great place, clean, comfortable, all the modern conveniences, as advertised. You can't see much from the wonderful porch when the leaves are on the trees but I wasn't there to sit on the porch, I was there to get out hiking :-) Better view in the winter when the leaves are down. Google Maps puts it deep into the development but it is actually very close to 16 which was great for me, I was on the road quickly each day for hiking trips. I rented for a week in the fall. Since you are close to 16 you can hear trucks go by on 16 but that doesn't bother me at all. I had AT&T cell phone service which was great because I've not had service when I've stayed up in Bethlehem. There was a small problem and the owner fixed it in a timely fashion so that was great too. I'll definitely rent again if it is available when I want it.
