'Lake House', Landgrove, in the foothills of Vermont's Green Mountains

Bedrooms 5
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Very comfortable lodge-style retreat, all amenities, close to 4 ski mountains.

-Perfect family retreat with 5 bedrooms offering plenty of space for guests and nanny or caretaker.

-Beautiful, serene location in Southern Vermont, close to skiing yet complete privacy in a beautiful natural setting. Comfortable, lodge-style retreat with large pond and swimming dock on beautifully manicured grounds in a classic rural Vermont setting between the towns of Weston and Londonderry.

-Nestled in the forest at the end of a quiet dead-end road, Lake House is set in beautiful natural surroundings providing the ultimate in peace and privacy. No shops or commercial development. Lake House is a large, lodge-style home built to the highest standards that blends luxury and comfort with immediate access to nature and the outdoors.

The swimming in the lake is superb and one of the main attractions in summer. The lake is a very large, (1 acre plus) manmade pond with a small manmade beach, a diving platform and clear water that is spring fed ( two feeder ponds ensure the water flowing into the pond is clean). The bottom is sand. The depth averages around 14 ft and in the middle, the deepest part, is 16 ft. In short, swimming here is a delight and the house is called Lake house because the pond is a prominent feature of the property. Our kids love to spend their whole day around the lake

Nearby is the quaint village of Weston with the renowned 'Vermont Country Store' and Weston Playhouse theater. City of Manchester for shopping 20 minutes away. Conveniently located in the foothills of the Green Mountains National Forest between Stratton and Okemo (20 minutes) and with Bromley (10 minutes) and Magic Mountain (just 5) minutes around the corner, Lake House is the perfect family retreat. No traffic, no noise, just peace and quiet.

Some of Vermont's best restaurants like The Mill Tavern in Londonderry and Johnny's Seesaw in Peru are within 5-10 minutes. Cross-country ski from your doorstep into the natural forest across the road, or start from the best cross-country skiing in Southern Vermont at nearby Greendale Rd.

Once you settle down in front of the huge fireplace in the warm, comfortable living room, or down at the private beach, life leaves nothing else to be desired.

The superbly crafted timber frame house with inviting interiors provides the ultimate in comfort and overlooks the 1-acre lake after which the house is named. Relax on one of the terraces or the private beach by the lake, or walk the beautiful grounds. This fabulous property will fill you with a sense of peace and quiet.

Open floor plan, nice bedrooms each with their own individual bathroom, large family room with terrace.

Garage apartment with fireplace and kitchen offers additional room for friends, family or caretaker/nanny. (additional cost and cleaning fee)

Did you ever feel like you were right at home, immediately?

This is the easiest review I have ever written. We rented the house for one week with three families. There were 6 adults and 5 children aged between 10 and 15. We loved this home. The house was very clean and well cared for. In fact the house is so nice I don't even think the photos do it justice. Swimming in the lake was great and is probably the nicest lake (for swimming) I have ever been in. Very clean, nice bottom, clear water. The house had plenty of room for all the families with two full master bedrooms. Plenty of bathrooms. We also liked the ice machine in the kitchen. The fridge in the garage was great because we could keep some drinks out there. Just perfect. Luisa checked on us and ensured that we had everything we needed. She really cared about making our trip perfect!!!!

We loved the area. Since it was summer we spent most of our time swimming in the lake. When we ventured out we enjoyed seeing Weston. Check out the playhouse there. We also toured Hildene and the Coolidge Homestead. These were great trips you may want to check out if you are in the area. We also enjoyed the adventure courses at Bromley ski area. Great summer activity. I did some cycling in the area and enjoyed that too. But be aware that the house is on a gravel/dirt road and some of the roads are very hilly. Not really suited for cycling by younger kids.

You will love this place. Trust me.

The perfect family escape!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent a week at the Lake House and had such a wonderful and relaxing time! There is so much space throughout this tastefully appointed home. The kitchen had everything we needed for large dinners and we used the outdoor grill as well. The kids enjoyed the lake and the adults enjoyed the lounge chairs and stone deck off of the kitchen -- the perfect spot for coffee in the morning and cocktails at night. Luisa is very hands on and approachable, making sure that we were happy and content. I highly recommend this great and tranquil home for your next vacation!!!

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Lake House is a beautiful home in a perfect setting. Our family of five loved our stay here, and the kids especially loved boating and swimming in the lovely small lake. The home is nicely furnished, the kitchen is well outfitted for cooking when eating in, and the setting is wonderfully serene. Luisa made sure everything was taken care of for our stay, and we felt like we were staying in the home of a friend. We highly recommend this great getaway.

Great family vacation - thank you!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very high end property. The house is very large and beautifully decorated throughout. The grounds are also magnificent. Our 3 kids had great fun splashing around in the 1 acre pond which was very clean. They also had great fun in the spacious green area (too big to call a garden) which is at the other side of the house where they could play soccer, whiffle ball etc.

When we all needed to relax, the kids played board games or watched TV in the finished basement which has a 12 seater couch - great for watching a family movie. The balcony is also a great place to eat or just to sit and take in the magnificent scenery around the property.

Luisa (the owner) was very helpful and informative before our trip and checked in via e-mail a couple of times during our stay to ensure we were all having a good time which was appreciated.

We had a great vacation and would highly recommend this house - thanks Luisa

A wonderful place for our large family to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The "yellow house" was an amazing comfortable place for our family to stay. We enjoyed the pond, the wonderful view and most of all having dinners together around the large dining table. The separate bedrooms all with bathrooms gave privacy and quiet to family who slept later or went to bed earlier- thank you for making our family get together so special! We can't wait to do it again!

The property exceeded our expectations.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful labor day weekend at the beautiful lake house in a very picturesque location in mountains of Vermont. My wife was impressed with the lake front view from the master bedroom and "old fashioned' bathtub.

The home was quite comfortable and provided us with all the amenities of home, including an outdoor grill.

We spent the evenings going for walks around the lake and playing the old fashion board games in the family room on the lower level.

We enjoyed the lake and the many frogs and bird species in the area. We went to the local supermarket where they had farm fresh corn.

There is nothing not to love about this home. The owners have done an excellent job in maintaining the property. The lovely wooden floors, the larger ice maker in the kitchen with the dedicated "hot water" faucet (created a cup of hot tea in seconds), the paired rocking chairs, the old country wooden table and the abundance of windows with views of the lake are just some of the things that made this a great way to close the summer.

Thank you for sharing your "gem" with my family. We have no reservations in recommending this property to our family and friends.

Noel and Deborah
