About Lorna Deveau

Just retired back to Cheticamp after living away for 35 years. Bought this summer home February 2012. I hope you love staying in my home as much as my family loved being here every summer.

Lorna Deveau purchased this house in 2012

Why Lorna Deveau chose Chéticamp

I consider this a piece of paradise especially since my family and I live in the area... so good for the soul to enjoy the beauty and calm of this place.

What makes this house unique

My family and I grew up looking at this home across the bay, and love everything about it from the private pond, the old School House, and the peaceful setting. I'll never get tired of looking out at the incredible scenery. I'm very proud to offer you the experience of staying in my home and our village... this will be a vacation destination you will most definitely want to return to.

Guestbook comments from the manager

It is my greatest pleasure to write a review for this property.

I rented this house for the period August16-August23, 2015 for my family members that were traveling from all parts of Canada and NY, to Cape Breton for my daughter's wedding.

My initial request, October 2014, for information on this property was met with a quick, efficient and friendly response. Following that many more questions ensued to establish this property would meet our needs. I was delighted that the owners left no stone unturned in providing me top notch service to the point a great relationship was formed between them and I.

I was granted viewings of the premises twice. The caretakers were wonderful and did everything possible to accommodate my schedule. They were the perfect example of Cape Breton warmth and hospitality.

The house and property are immaculate. The grounds are well groomed and manicured. The house is well stocked with linens and towels and the kitchen is also well supplied with dishes, pots and utensils.

This location was perfect for our needs. We had more that enough room for approximately 50 people to come and attend in a pre-wedding BBQ and Buffet gathering. Let's not forget to mention this property has a "man cave" with its own fridge that the gentlemen folk LOVED.

It was absolutely a wonderful week. I would recommend this location to any and all who wish to experience a great Home Away from home experience.

Many thanks to Jackie and Lorna.

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful location and scenery! Loved the town, loved the beach, close to the park, yet private across the water. The house fit us perfectly and had every comfort we needed. Wonderful holiday.

Amazing location -- super comfortable home!

  • 5 of 5

Two families from Brooklyn came to this little corner of the world. Four adults and five kids had a fantastic time. Lorna and family were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the home was equipped with everything we could possibly need. Kids loved staying in their own house -- the schoolhouse right next door, s'mores out in the campfire, playing in the huge yard, parents loved the views, the deck, and the island as a whole. The views are amazing here: sunsets, cliffs on the other side of the island and views of the village and the highlands beyond, the birds, flowers and butterflies in the meadow. A truly unique and fantastic place to stay!!!

Great property. Great view. Great time.

  • 5 of 5

First of all, what a lovely spot . The property is just across a little used dirt road from the harbor. Picturesque views of Cheticamp and the mountains behind. We had bonfires all but one night. I am a regular visitor to the area and usually stay in town. I found that I really enjoyed the privacy of this property. I felt more relaxed than staying in town. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Wonderful week spent at idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We were a large group entertaining family from Scotland who spent a wonderful week at Jackie and Lorna's Cheticamp Island home. Could not have had more of an idyllic setting....absolutely stunning views of the village of Cheticamp across the water. Everything is provide...Ada their property manager met us shortly after we had arrived to give a run down and contact information. I cannot say enough for the provisions available right down to lobster pot!! We had bonfires wood provided....swam at local beach, Margaree Harbour Beach spent a day at the quarry (not to be missed), Saturday afternoon at the Doryman....lots of fun and laughs. We thoroughly enjoyed the accomodations and would not hesitate to recommend. The schoolhouse is a little run down and roof has leak....did lot spend much time there. Thanks again for a wonderful week. Hope to rebook at future time.

Quiet and peaceful - a true getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time staying here. We were a group of 16 (8 adults, 8 kids) and the property accommodated us comfortably. We stuck the kids in the school house and had the adults sleeping in the main house. Everyone was happy with this arrangement! The large yard was a huge benefit and gave the kids (and adults) lots of room to run around and play games. The close proximity to the beach was also nice (although the weather really wasn't beachy for much of the time). We hiked through the bush to the other side of the island numerous times and were awed and astounded by the views and remoteness that could be found just a 20 min. hike away. The town of Cheticamp had everything we needed - the CO-OP grocery store, pubs, restaurants, tourist shops, whale watching tours, etc. I would highly recommend this property to others visiting Cape Breton Island.

Perfect family/friends getaway

  • 5 of 5

The space is perfect if you're looking to have a big family reunion or friends reunion. Right ON the water, lots of privacy, lots of space and on the cabot trail near beautiful margaree... huge kitchen and a separate dorm style space thats fitted with all kinds of cots and air mattresses. We went for a family reunion and we cooked and hung out at the house all day and our parents slept there while we took the late night party into the school house, can't believe it was such a perfect setting!

PS: The owners are great and helpful, there's EVERYTHING In the cottage you would need, and the supervisors are excellent too, they'll come by for anything you need and are super polite.

Can't say I've never found a more perfect place for a big group.
