About Bill McNeil
We have lived in North Carolina for 42 years, currently in Geensboro, after growing up in Upstate New York and Florida and going to college in Pennsylvania, Boston and UNC-Chapel Hill.
Bill McNeil purchased this House in 2004
Why Bill McNeil chose Shallotte
Our home offers a great place to retreat, connect with nature, get in touch with the ebb and flow of tides in the marsh. It is away from the congested beaches, yet close enough to enjoy them. For golfers, over 30 Myrtle Beach and Brunswick County courses are within 30 miles.
What makes this House unique
After looking at beach property along the entire NC coast, we found this river-view gem at the end of a sandy path, with what some have called a million dollar view.
Our place is definitely pet-friendly, wt $100 dep

Wonderful, comfortable, and spacious house with beautiful view
We had a perfect stay here. The view off the huge back porch was beautiful all the time, and the house was really great for all of us. Comfortable beds, very clean, and a fully stocked kitchen made it a great place to hang and rest when we weren't out on the beach. Highly recommended!
Nature at its best. Dear and birds ,crickets and frogs, the sounds around dusk were symphonic. Great relaxing evenings in hot tub and hanging out on back porch listening to and watching nature.
Everything we wanted!
We had a great 5 day vacation in which we were able to bring our 2 dogs along. With all due respect, the pictures do not serve the home justice. As good as it looks online the home is even better in person. Home was clean and ready for us upon arrival. The yard looked nice and the owner make everything available to guests including use of kayaks. Location for us was perfect. Minutes to anything and everything. We fished, golfed, went crabbing, days at the beach, good food, and a short drive to Myrtle and Wilmington. We grilled an awesome dinner one night. Time on the back deck was so great every morning and night. Great to watch nature and wildelife. Surprisingly given it being July and on the water the insects outside were minimal and were not a bother. Simple check in and check out process was seamless and everyone so nice. Great home within our budget. Would definitely recommend and return. Thanks!!
Peaceful and Relaxing Getaway
This home is conveniently located within just a short drive to the nearby beaches. It is away from all the busyness and crowds which was wonderful after a day at the beach, golf course, or sight seeing. The peacefulness of the back porch overlooking the marsh and river is incredible and the porch swing and rocking chairs just allow you the opportunity to unwind and relax. The home was comfortable and roomy with a large kitchen and all the conveniences we needed. It was a lot of fun to take the kayaks out as well and see more of the Shallotte River. The owner was very helpful and responsive. We would definitely come back and stay here again!
Relaxing, private and very homey
We loved it! It was a bit further from the beaches than we thought - but that could have just been our trouble following directions! I know that a vacation should just be relaxing, but we all thought it would be good if there was other tv in the great room. I'm a news freak and the kids were staying in the twin room, so I didn't get much time in front of it! We didn't use the hot tub because when we read that it was serviced bi-weekly, we were afraid we might have come on the off week.
Thanks for your review. We have a regular weekly hot-tub service, so guests should not be concerned about safe water quality. We have considered adding another television, but opted to keep parts of the house for reading, games, and conversation.
Life on the river....
If you are looking for a quiet almost secluded place this is it or that's how it feels except you are a quick drive to all the beaches and only 40 minutes to South Carolina...
Bill's home is beautiful and so welcoming we truely felt at home there.... my only complaint is that we had to leave lol..... this home is beautiful with an amazing view of the river bird watching was fun and exciting and hearing nothing but cicadas crickets and the popping sound of the pistol shrimps during low tide and the fiddler crab scurrying about.....
Our home is a quiet retreat setting at the end of a sandy path, yet a short walk to local shrimp at Holden Seafood, four miles to two groceries, other stores and restaurants in downtown Shallotte. For beach-lovers, Ocean Isle Beach is within 7 miles and Sunset Beach within 10 miles. The deck has a fantastic view of the Shallotte River. Kayak from our front lawn at high tide using our 2 kayaks, paddle the river, fish or find clams, oysters and crabs.
