  • 5 of 5

Overall:

A beautiful place, close to town. Very pleasant gardens.

Enjoyed Most:

Proximity to town and the age and feel of the property.

Surrounding Area:

Easy drive to Florence, Siena and other Tuscan towns.

Montalcino was lovely.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Montalcino was a short walk.

Tips or Restaurants:

The cooking facilities are excellent. There is a good supermarket in town with all you need plus a weekly market or plenty of good restaurants in town. Must have wild boar and brunello!

Directions:

We used a GPS but couldn't put in the street number. The GPS takes you to a set of units across the road.

Overall:

This was a fabulous villa within walking distance of Montalcino, a lovely small wine town. The six of us had a wonderful time here ... a paradise in Italy.

Enjoyed Most:

Villa Montalcino was perfect for three couples, allowing us our own bedrooms and bathrooms. It had all the amenities needed for a week's stay. It was well maintained and very clean. We loved the inside and outdoor areas.

Enjoyed Least:

No complaints.

Surrounding Area:

We had no car, but we were able to do lots of things in the area. Most of all, we were able to relax at this villa, which we all needed after touring quite a bit in Florence and Siena. It was great to just sit and enjoy friend time.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Montalcino is a 10-minute walk from the villa. Although it's an uphill climb, we found ourselves taking the walk 2 or 3 times a day ... for shopping, wine tasting, morning coffee, and dinners. the setting was perfect. Plus the town offers lovely restaurants, a good grocery store, great little shops, and a Friday market.

Tips or Restaurants:

This is a perfect place to spend a week for a family or a bunch of couples. The WiFi was perfect the whole time we were able to shop for groceries very easily. We found some great restaurants, including Re di Macchia, Osteria Porta Al Cassero, Bar Belvedere for lunch and wonderful views, and coffee and wine at Caffe la Fortezza.

Directions:

We had drivers take us to and from the villa, so directions were no problem.

Check In Out:

Monica checked us in and out of the villa. She is a wonderful Italian woman, and although she speaks very little English (and we speak very very little Italian), we communicated quite well. Her daughter helped a bit, so we were able to understand everything we needed to do and how everything worked.

  • 5 of 5

Overall:

Great welcome from Monica, excellent location near restaurants, supermarket, very good ambiance, well equipped but small kitchen. When internet and hot water failed because of storm Monica came at once and both were restored within 24 hours. Overall a wonderful stay.

Enjoyed Most:

Location, very attractive stone house, very secure.

Enjoyed Least:

Hot bedrooms in the summer heat. Extra charges for electricity and gas, the cost of which was difficult to estimate.

Surrounding Area:

Restaurants, lovely historical village of Montalcino, brunello wine!

Nearby Events or Locales:

Montalcino within 5 minutes walk

Tips or Restaurants:

Ice trays! Condiments, oil and vinegar, but Coop supermarket is a 5-minute walk. Restaurants to explore for every taste.

Directions:

Used Google Maps with ease.

Check In Out:

Both conducted with ease.

Overall:

We had a great time overall, and it was room enough for six adults and a toddler.

Enjoyed Most:

Since we were in Montalcino during a heatwave in June, the pool was a highpoint for us. After exploring the town and surroundings, it was wonderful to come back to take a swim and just relax. The water was perfect temperature for all including our grandson, who loved it.

Enjoyed Least:

Since there was a drought, the beautiful lawn was burned out by the sun, so we could only imagine how beautiful it would have been. We found the kitchen to be lacking paper products, salt, pepper, sugar, coffee and tea, dish and laundry detergent. We arrived late with only 30 minutes to spare to shop at the supermarket and did not know we needed these items. The supermarket did not open again until Monday so we were without basics for the first few days. The kitchen did not have ice trays and it was very hot.

Surrounding Area:

We loved the town of Montalcino and found the restaurants and townspeople all to be lovely and very accommodating of our toddler. We made day trips to two towns and to Florence. The food and wine were superb.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Montalcino was in walking distance, but we drove due to the hill and the heat. Parking was a challenge at times, but we found it to be easier.

Tips or Restaurants:

Make sure you get to the Coop before it closes on Saturday or bring supplies with you. You will need paper towel, napkins, toilet paper, clear wrap, and ice trays, dish and laundry detergent, and milk. Restaurants The Winery Potazzine, Il Grifo, Osteria Porta Al Cassero, Sala Dei Grappoli--all restaurants were wonderful and child-friendly. There is a good list in the villa.

Directions:

The directions were fine and we had GPS. Monica was wonderful and very helpful when we did not have hot water, as the switch had been accidentally turned off, she came quickly and fixed it. She also arrived at 4:30 am for our 5 am departure. Even though she did not speak English, we did fine.

Check In Out:

It was very smooth, and we let Monica know we were late due to the the backup of getting a rental car at the Rome airport. She waited for us and it worked out.

Overall:

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Villa Montalcino. The highlight is being able to walk into town, but still feeling like you are in a secluded country villa. Monica was fantastic, making our check in/out and stay excellent. We were there during very cold weather but the heat worked well - would imagine warmer months would be spectacular for the outdoor table and garden area. We were 3 couples and had more than enough room. The bathrooms in particular are very nice. The kitchen is well equipped and was put to good use by the two chefs that were a part of our group.

Enjoyed Most:

Location near town

Enjoyed Least:

Fireplace was not usable

Surrounding Area:

Brunello of course! Lovely tour of Poggio Antico.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Montalcino walking distance, easy 5 minute walk.

Tips or Restaurants:

We donated a new American style coffee maker to the villa that has a built in filter, so no need to buy filters! Do bring plenty of toilet paper, trash bags, etc

Directions:

Google Maps found the property easily.

  • 5 of 5

Overall:

Villa Montalcino is magical. We had a real Tuscan holiday. The home and town exceeded our expectations in almost every way. The house sits on its own little hill less than a five minute walk from town. It is in the middle of everything but feels like you are living on your own little hilltop. The furnishings are beautiful and well taken care of. The garden has olive, chestnut, and apple trees. The air is perfumed by wild oregano and pine trees. The pool is sun-drenched most of the day. The covered porches are wonderful hideaways. Sunset in the back yard celebrated with fresh pecorino from nearby Pienza and Brunello from a nearby vineyard ended most of our days.

Enjoyed Most:

The house and garden are at the base of Montalcino, in the shadow of the fortress. We had the best of both worlds. A 19th century farmhouse with a village nearby.

The grounds are well taken care of and picturesque with chairs and tables situated in the best locations.

The bedrooms are comfortable and quiet and the bed linens and towels are fresh and line-dried.

The kitchen is small but well-equipped.

Monica, the caretaker, was magnificent. She greeted us with warmth and joy, responded to our every need, and cooked some of the best meals we had during our time there. She didn't speak any English and we spoke no Italian but it didn't matter. We adored her. Molto brava!

Enjoyed Least:

The small kitchen.

The lighting in the living room is somewhat dark.

The TV didn't have any premium channels.

We were not allowed to used the fireplace in the living room.

Surrounding Area:

The village was not overrun by tourists, even on the weekend, even though it is a well-known and picturesque Tuscan town. The restaurants served local, authentic cuisine in warm and friendly atmospheres. The townspeople were friendly and helpful. We were less than an hours drive from some of the best sites in Tuscany.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Montalcino is a five minute walk away. We never used the car on days we weren't sightseeing.

Tips or Restaurants:

Il Grappolo Blu was the best restaurant in town. Il Lecchio had the best cappuccino. The Coop had great pasta, cheese, and meat. But the best bread was at Lambardy, the best pastries were at Il Scheggi and the best fruit and vegetables were in a little store on the same block as Lambardy.

Directions:

Directions were great. But we used GPS with no problems.

Map

This Tuscany villa rental is situated right on the edge of the medieval town of Montalcino, known primarily for its fine wine. Wine here is made from the brunello grape, aged for a minimum of 4 years, and has a rich, fruity, powerful taste. That is not Montalcino's only attraction, however, as it is also a characteristic little town, great for exploration and relaxation. Some of the sights include the Duomo of San Salvatore, the Piazza del Popolo with the Palazzo Communale, and the Church of San Francesco with frescoes by Vincenzo Tamagni. Of particular note are the 12th century Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, a beautiful Romanesque montastic church, and the 14th century fortress that dominates the valley. This location is also convenient for day trips to Siena, Florence, and the seaside. Florence: 110 km/68 ft2 Grosetto, seaside: 60 km/37 mi Siena: 40 km/25 mi Montalcino: 500 meters/1,640 ft2
