Sophia was very accommodating.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was even better than we expected - the on-line photos didn't do it justice. It's located in the middle of a wine estate, with about a 270 degree view of the surrounding countryside. The vineyard came right up to the nicely groomed yard, and we had full run of the property for morning walks. The pool was clean and crystal clear. The property manager was friendly and attentive, and a real pleasure to talk to. The house was perfect for our needs: the kitchen large and well equiped enough to cook meals for four. We really enjoyed eating on the patio with a view of nearby towns on a neighboring hill, and sitting around the pool watching the sun set and the stars come out.
The rural setting in a vineyard and the views of the surrounding countryside and hill towns.
The only thing we didn't really like was that it was hunting season, and that most mornings we woke to the sounds of gunshots somewhere in the vicinity. On the one hand, it was quaint and added to the experience of living in the Italian countryside, but on the other hand it was a bit unnerving to hear gunshots nearby while out on a walk.
The vineyards, the olive groves, the views, the hill towns, the wineries of the Chianti Classico region, and the easy access to the culture, art, architecture, and history in Florence and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town with full services is Barbarino Val d'Elsa, which is too far to walk on such narrow roads. It's about ten minutes away by car, but definitely worth visiting.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa had pretty much everything we needed, we just needed to add food and wine. It was the case, as we had been advised, that stores are closed on Sundays and that shopping for the weekend needs to be done on Saturday. Tavernelle Val d' Pesa is just down the road, and its store is open till 1 pm on Sunday, but the stores are crowded the later in the day that you go. We'd suggest getting your shopping done Saturday, and the earlier in the day, the better. We really enjoyed the meal we ate at Il Campanellino in Barbarino Val d'Elsa. The ambience was great, as was the food. Braised rabbit was an unexpected and delicious find on the menu.
We did not use a GPS, the directions took us to the property manager's key holder's address, which is a reception office. It was ea
Exactly what we were looking for in terms of being able to get the Tuscan experience.
Great central location in Tuscany. Plenty of room to spread out. Lots of peace and quiet. Great view. Enjoyed sitting out watching the sun set over the town in the distance. Opportunity to cook in or eat out in the nearby town. Location on the winery and the chance to wine taste from the grapes being grown right there. The wine tasting experience at Bonomonte was a highlight. Great wines and excellent appetizers. The property manager was wonderful and very friendly. Great location for taking long walks with no cars in sight.
Kitchen was smaller than hoped. Not very well equipped for people who love to cook. Could have used a cutting board, some basic spices, better knives, BBQ tools. Could not figure out the dishwasher or the TV worked. The toilet in one of the master bathrooms did not work in spite of it being fixed twice during our stay. Editor's Note: The kitchen has been restocked with cutting boards, good knives and BBQ tools. The toilet has been fixed. July 2011.
Visiting all of the small hill towns. The villa is in the perfect location...halfway between Siena and Florence. Easy drive to Volterra, Greve in Chianti, Castellini in Chianti, San Gimignano, Certaldo, several farmers markets, cooking classes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
A car is an absolute necessity. Renting a GPS was definitely the way to go or we would have been completely lost.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your own iPod and speakers if you want music. Bring basic spices and one of those plastic cutting boards you can roll up. Visit one of the local farmers markets for your fruits and veggies.
The directions were to the villas in town where we met the property manager who drove us to the actual villa. It would have been impossible to find on our own, but once we got there, we were able to get back to town easily. Yes, we did use a GPS.

Very easy. No problems
The property is located on a large wine estate five kilometers from the village of Barberino Val d'Elsa, where there are shops, restaurants, a great pizzeria, a market, a bank, and a post office. Dating back to the Middle Ages, Barberino Val d'Elsa marks the midway point between Siena and Florence. The village has an ancient church, castle, chapel, and beautiful views of the olive groves and vineyards that make up much of the Chianti Classico region. San Gimignano is a great place to go for a day trip. As one of the most visited towns in Tuscany, it is known for its rich history dating back to the Etruscan times. It is full of life and things to do. Popular attractions include the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and several museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights, play medieval games, and have tournaments. Of course, you'll also want to visit Florence and Siena during your trip. Nearby Attractions: Barberino Val d'Elsa (markets, shops, restaurants, pizzeria, bank, post office, ancient church, castle, chapel), Certaldo (train station), San Gimginano (towers, Duomo, People's Palace, museums, wine tasting, shops, restaurants, annual festivals), Florence, Siena.
