Aloha from Kehena Beach House!
Precariously perched high on a lush tropical sea cliff amid a mature coconut forest at the ocean's absolute edge stands this extremely private and totally remodeled electrically gated, secure romantic escape for two which was designed with purely indulgent luxury in mind in every gorgeous detail.
The unobstructed panoramic views of Kehena Black sand beach and bay that one can enjoy from the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and both of the covered and uncovered open air oceanfront lanais (decks) coupled with the Tommy Bahama style high end designer furnishings and the 100% Turkish travertine tiled floors that extends to the dramatic upper level lanai with glass railing is guaranteed to leave you in awe.
The privileged guests of Kehena Beach House will be treated to the only private residence in this quaint coastal beach community that has no immediate neighbor on either side and has the only in ground oceanfront pool.
The beach house overlooks the beach to the left and it overlooks the coconut forest and the agricultural half acre parcel that adjoins the beach house to the right. The agricultural parcel is maintained by the developer to grow pineapple, sweet Hawaiian apple bananas, citrus, fragrant flowers and various species of native plants. It is not occupied or accessible, but it incorporates the 6 foot high lava rock walls that encircle the entire compound of which you are the only guests.
Upon your arrival , you will notice that the oceanfront block is secured with 6 foot lava rock walls adorned with a series of elaborate artistic copper gates and matching light fixtures. All were custom designed by famed Honolulu based french sculptor Frederic Zimmer. The entry pillars of the series of gates will be automatically illuminated throughout each evening for your convenience and security. Meticulously maintained professionally landscaped yard with a sprawling lawn that greets you with a large variety of colorful and flowering pleasantly scented tropical fauna as well as a cozy hammock that hangs beneath a pair of coconut trees. A spectacular young banyan tree, for which the island is well known, is a central fixture to the front yard. A private garden of exotic fruit trees and over twenty different varieties of flowering heliconia is situated across the street, caticornered to the beach house. Many of the cut flowers found inside of the beach house are, in fact, grown on site.
There is a large open air deck at the front door where you can enjoy the view of both the magnificent gardens and the rocky blue pacific ocean from the comfortable Thomasville crafted glass top outdoor table with cushioned seating for up to four.
The one thousand square foot beach house features a tropical themed bedroom with a California king bed and a den that views both the pool and the ocean on the lower level. Both rooms access the covered oceanfront lower level lanai through sliding glass doors and directly view the ever-changing seascape of the blue pacific ocean. The bathroom is wrapped in Turkish travertine tile with a glass block shower with a massage feature. The toilet seat is heated and has a built in wash let with both washer and dryer apparatus. A washer and dryer is located adjacent to the bedroom.
Upstairs you will encounter a great room concept with a fully equipped kitchen with all modern stainless steel appliances (refrigerator with ice maker, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, disposal), solid granite counter tops. An over sized bistro table capable of seating up to four abuts the kitchen. The living room has 2 large sofas with an ottoman and a large flat screen wall mounted TV with DVD player that can also be viewed from the dining area. Dish network provides access to over 250 channels. WiFi is provided at no extra charge. A private phone line with free unlimited calls to anywhere in the 50 united states is provided. The upper level has designer ceiling fans and a series of sliding glass doors that permit the cooling trade winds to offer excellent cross ventilation.
The two oceanfront decks provide dramatic direct viewing of the roaring pacific ocean which is literally crashing below your feet against the 50 foot rocky sea cliffs. It is also an excellent place to sunbathe in the buff. There is no disturbance of noisy neighbors or traffic on this cul de sac which is Kehena beach estate's most exclusive enclave of private gated absolute oceanfront residences.
The custom in ground oceanfront pool that abuts the beach house can either be accessed directly from the covered oceanfront lower level deck, or from the lava rock style stepping stones that one encounters in the front yard gardens that lead to a gated 6 foot lava rock wall. The lava rock style concrete pool is a work of art unto itself. It is situated within an exotic tropical garden where a variety of fragrant flowering tropical plants such as gardenia, Queen Emma's lily, Tonga taboo and the ever popular Hawaiian Puakenekene flourish. The pool has a keyed entry via an electrically operated canvas cover that promotes the efficiency of the solar powered heated water to the pool when it is not in use. The pool features a Fastlane device by endless pools which provides one with the option to swim in place at one's desired pace at the touch of a button. Additionally, there is an underwater light for night time use of the pool and a poolside switch to turn on the soothing jets. The pool is so private that one can skinny dip in complete privacy and concurrently enjoy the view at the ocean's edge.
It is hoped by the developer of Kehena Beach House that you have been provided with a helpful and accurate portrayal of what precisely you might encounter if you elect to visit here at this splendid one of a kind honeymooner's delight. We look forward to assisting you in enjoying a most memorable , relaxing, yet adventurous visit to one of the world's most intriguing and scenic land and sea scapes and are confident of your return patronage and referral to your friends, family, acquaintances and colleagues.

We manage this beautiful cliff house for our good friend and neighbor of many years. We love Hosting Guest from all over the world. Aloha and E Komo Mai!
The owner wanted to offer this amazing home right on the cliff. The House captures the amazing views from almost every room and it even overlooking Kehena Black Sand Beach home to spinner dolphins and humpback whales in winter months! The East side of Hawaii captures amazing sunrises and constant trade winds.
Located on the Puna Coast with its lush beauty and closeness to the ocean. Roof Top Deck, Heated & Jetted Pool. This property is gated and very Private!
An unbelievable view and a very luxurious house where we could relax and unwind. The grounds and tropical gardens are beautiful. My wife and I absolutely love this place. Sitting on the deck and looking out at the ocean, seeing Spinner dolphins playing in the bay, was an amazing experience. The nearby lava fields and flows were spectacular. Love the black sand beach. We were very well taken care of, and everything about our stay was delightful. Can't wait to come back.
There aren't enough words to describe the beauty of this property. The views are magical, with tropical forest and ocean cliffs beside and below you. You can hear the ocean waves crashing from anywhere in the house, and going to sleep/waking up to the sounds of the ocean isn't something we'll ever forget. It's also very secluded - no traffic sounds, no people walking around the property - just you and the sounds of the ocean (and frogs at night). The pool was the perfect place to cool off, and if you want ocean access Kehena Beach (black sand) is within walking distance. I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful and private escape. It was very difficult to pack our bags and return home. We hope to visit again.
We we're greeted with such aloha and warmth upon arriving on New Years Eve. Our first impression was pretty magical. All the windows and doors were open and the sound of the ocean crashing against the cliff face completely filled the home. We arrived in the evening after a long flight and fell asleep peacefully to the sound of the ocean. Its loud and powerful, but so peaceful. The next morning we got to see the space in daylight, and it's. all. about. the. view. The home is furnished nicely. All the appliances are standard and worked. The bathroom is nice enough. The kitchen was nice and seemed like it would’ve been good to cook in, but we didn’t. The couches are plush and comfy, though we didn’t really sit in them. The TV was nice and there was cable, but we didn't watch anything. The place feels like a nice solid, well considered, beach home. Don't expect the St. Regis, it's much homier. It’s pretty much just as the pictures depict it. But the interior pales in comparison to the exterior, because we spent the majority of our time sitting on the balcony staring out at the ocean, watching whales go by (thanks for the heads-up Tim!), watching waves break onto the cliff, and watching every sunset and sunrise. Again, its magical. The pool was awesome and heated and made for some really wonderful morning and evening dips. The place is surrounded by tropical foliage and feels private and nestled away from everything, but it’s also not far from the town of Pahoa, which is a short drive away and there are a few great restaurants and stores. We went to the Thai restaurant twice which was excellent, and checked out all the swimming spots along the red road. Champagne ponds was our favorite. Kehena beach is a 5 minute walk away and we went pretty much everyday. Tim and Iliahi were great hosts. They were on-hand anytime we needed anything. The binder of “stuff to do” is very comprehensive. There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll be returning.
Words cannot say how wonderful it was
This was the best place to choose from. The views were amazing and the house very nice. There were a few problems, we didn't know it was off the grid and my husband was unable to make long distance calls from his cell which he needs for his business. It also smelled strongly of mildew. We know this is the nature of living in the tropics but it affected our stay. Not having air conditioning was tough, it was extremely hot. It's hard giving a review, because it's amazing beautiful. 360 degree views. I guess from the other raving reviews thougj, we were expecting a better all around experience. There are no signs saying Kehena anywhere on the road. Just want to warm others of these things....
Back home in Baltimore it is already hard to believe that this place is real. perched right at the edge of the lava cliffs it has great panaramic views from the bedroom, the great room, and all four lanais. Kehena beach is also part of the view and is also just a five minute walk. Although there are other homes in the area, it is also extremely private while still being very close to Red Road. A really nice stay.
What a place. The landscaping is immaculate. And thoughtful. Besides aesthetics, this place would pass privacy standards for the likes of Sean Penn as well.
Be prepared for three worlds all wrapped into one. At least, over six nights, that was our experience. It was exhilarating. First, the sunshine. From 10am-4pm you get all the UV your body can stand (I wore UV protective clothes, in fact). Then, one or two days may be a refreshingly rainy world, occasionally torrentially. And the third world is the night and the crescendo of sounds and distant sights of stars and ships that emerge almost out of nowhere.
With these three worlds, this is not the Four Seasons. Unless you arrange for daily housekeeping, things fog up, and you become aware of both trade winds and Kona winds in a way no air conditioned person would have reason to know. In that way, it is more connecting than Four Seasons.
We got basic things, like milk and eggs and smoothie ingredients and a few comfort foods at the onset and heeded Tim’s advice on where to eat locally (40 minutes away) so maintaining our nutrition worked out, more or less.
How things work may also depend on your approach to your stay at the beach house. In our case, we used our stay as a launch pad and not a sole destination. Every day of stay we had an excursion of a few hours or more that would also include eating a meal somewhere. Approaching the beach house solely as a destination would require a bit more thought about menu planning in advance than we had done.
We had two very minor service issues during our stay and in both cases, Tim and Iliahi handled them quickly and unobtrusively.
In summary, about as luxuriously landscaped an experience and all-encompassing views you can have in Hawaii, at the price, while still maintaining a direct connection with the enviable Hawaiian climate. This is not a hermetically sealed Four Seasons experience (or Four Seasons furniture for that matter), but rather an incredibly intimate and secluded and lushly opulent view of pristine island beauty. With a heated freshwater pool-sized Jacuzzi with motorized swim lane adjacent to the house or a clothing optional public black sand beach 350 yards away or remarkable non-boat snorkeling a short drive away, or a couple of mile hike to see a live lava flow, it’s a difficult combination to beat.
We look forward to returning next year.
