About Dan Sullivan

We have lived here full time and part time for many years. Love all four seasons. The property was the original homestead in Curtis Hollow in around 1780. We were able to preserve the orginal post and beam homestead {now the fireplace/dining room} Lots of history and good feelings abound. We love the rural setting with hikes to the waterfall, spring, top of Baldy yet minutes {we are about halfway between Woodstock and Killington} to great restaurants, shopping skiing, golf etc.

Dan Sullivan purchased this farmhouse in 1976

Why Dan Sullivan chose Eastern Vermont

Great history and spiritual sense of the property, open fields ancient grave site, spiritual garden, very quiet, with babbling brook and waterfall and miles of hiking trails. The house is very comfortable but made for a family to live in.There are lots of nooks and crannies for some quiet time but also great, warm open spaces to enjoys a group or family. We try to accommodate your needs and do wish that your stay be memorable.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The land is beautiful and we have worked hard to fill the lawns with gardens and quiet sitting areas. The home is owner designed with many separate levels for privacy and many large round windows for lots of light. The spiritual garden with stone labyrinth is special for us. And yes, we built the labyrinth ourselves.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your farm has been a glorious place to watch fall come to Vermont. WE have hiked in your woods played a fair amount of tennis and watched lots of wildlife. We have had fun with your games [bocci, horseshoes, pool, darts, etc]. We are pleased that others could experience the farm too! Several of my brothers and sister in laws and friends have visited and everyone has been impressed with the beauty of your gardens, land and home. We are so pleased that others could share our wonderful experience!

Memory Making Stay

  • 5 of 5

The farm at Curtis Hollow was the perfect spot for our group of family members to create great memories. Daily hikes and nightly dinners will long be remembered by our group of "elders." The original homestead/dining room was the perfect backdrop for evening meals and conversation. The farm and surrounding property afforded everyone in our group space to get away and space to come together. Whether hiking to Mt. Baldy, or spending a few quiet moments in the labyrinth, there was nothing lacking. The chef's style kitchen had everything needed to make a feast as well as provide a constant supply of coffee for our group. Dan was the perfect host offering to be both a golf partner and local historian. Our family, who grew up with an open door dinner policy will cherish our dinners with Dan. If you're looking for an incredible place to create great memories, look no further.

Owner's Response: thank you for the wonderful ,warm review of your stay at Curtis Hollow Farm.I built the current home as a place for my family to gather ,enjoy one another's company --but still have special places to go when family nerves inevitable get on edge. That has not yet worked exactly as I planned--we are severely geographically disadvantaged---but enjoying delicious dinners in the fireplace room with your extended family will be as close as it gets. I have tried hard to provide a warm environment, filled with things to do for all ages and it is a great pleasure when a group such as yours fully takes advantageous of all the Farm has to offer. Thank you for the gracious note you left for me as well. Please return it will feel like a homecoming to me best dan

Absolutely beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

We had a small wedding ceremony on the grounds of Curtis Hollow farm this past September. It was such a beautiful day on an absolutely beautiful property. I couldn't recommend staying at this property more! The house and grounds are beautiful. We had 10 friends and 2 dogs stay with us and felt there was plenty of room! We enjoyed the views while sitting on the large back deck and sitting around the fire pit at night! Our dogs loved running free throughout the large property. Such a peaceful and magical place.

Dan is a great host, very responsive, and is close by if at all needed!

Thanks Dan for allowing us to have such a special wedding weekend at Curtis Hollow Farm! We are looking forward to returning in the future!

Owner's Response: Thanks Julie I almost felt part of the wedding and it gave me great pleasure to be able to provide the setting for such an important and joyous time for your family. Congratulations! and good fortune to you both and your families---and thank you for the very generous gift of the handsawn pine seating which was part of what you left behind--I promise you i will be sure to allow another young couple to benefit from the beauty it gives to the farm. Please come back --- this is a great spot for young children! best dan

Wonderful Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family returned to Curtis Hollow Farm for a week this past August. Once again, we had an absolutely wonderful time swimming in the pond, playing tennis, walking in the woods, building fires at night, and spending hours on the porch admiring the gardens and talking. We had eight adults and four children under the age of two - and there was enough space for us to spread out and find alone time when needed. The kitchen provided plenty of space to cook and socialize together in the evening - and we loved eating dinner in the fireplace room with old farm beams overhead. The house and grounds are the perfect place for a family to gather and spend lovely, fun, quality time together. I'm already looking forward to our return next year!

Owner's Response: It was great to have your group back--and that you had another fun and memorable time. The property was developed for extended family gatherings with my children and grandchildren. Unfortunately due to distance between my girls and the grandchildren those gatherings do not occur as frequently as I would like but but it is a real pleasure to see others use the farm as i intended. Hope to se you again next year best dan

Beautiful Place, Fantastic setting, Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5

Curtis hollow farm was an ideal place for our extended family to relax and enjoy Vermont. There was as much or as little as one wanted to do. The house was beautiful, comfortable and spacious. 3 generations enjoyed fun and relaxation.

Dan is a terrific host and made sure our stay was enjoyable.

We had vacationed in Vermont for many year when our children were younger and now that they are older and bringing their children they remarked how all the happy memories came flooding back. We played golf, tennis, went hiking, visited Billings Farm and relaxed. Our son-in-law hope we could make this a tradition!

We've done a number of VRBO homes and this was our favorite!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind review. My family built Curtis Hollow Farm as a place where we would all spend time together with lots of room to spread out and enjoy ones company ,a great kitchen to gather in and lots of little places to spend a few minutes in quiet reflection. Between the quietness in the ancient fireplace room to the three story game room in its own annex we seem to have exceeded. I sincerely hope you do return-- groups such as yours make renting out our home a true pleasure. best dan

Outstanding home for family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Curtis Hollow Farm. It was the perfect place for a multigenerational family reunion, with so many beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces to be together or apart. The farm is spacious, welcoming and comfortable. Our group included 3 families from the UK, USA and New Zealand and 2 dogs. Curtis Hollow was the perfect setting. It was luxurious, yet we were not concerned about the kids and dogs running in and out all day. The grounds are wonderful. We went swimming in the swimming hole, walked the labyrinth every day, panned for gold in the stream, hiked to the waterfall, and had a number of BBQs. However, our favorite activity was sitting on the large covered porch, catching up over a glass of wine. Dan was the perfect host -- friendly and attentive and we enjoyed getting to know him. Overall, an outstanding and truly relaxing vacation.

Fabulous 4th of July Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

For the holiday weekend, my college roommates and I wanted to plan a mini reunion with our families. In total, we were 8 adults and 6 children - ages ranging from 8 months to 6 years old. When we found Curtis Hollow, we had a feeling it would be the right property for our group. Our visit exceeded every expectation. The house is large and clean with expansive common space for everyone to spend time together. We had kids sleeping all over the house and space was certainly not an issue. On the property, there is so much to do. We enjoyed the tennis court, hike to the waterfall, walk to the frog pond, yoga in the mediation garden and so much more. The hidden gem was the fire pit which we sat around every night after the kids were asleep! Dan, the owner, was on the property towards the end of our stay and offered all of the kids rides around the enormous property on his gator. We ventured into town a few times to shop at the farmers market, eat at the brewery on the river and take the kids for pizza. Some of the adults golfed one morning and others visited the gorgeous spa at the Woodstock Inn. We could have stayed longer and were sad to leave. We are already looking at dates to visit again next year! Thank you Dan!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the wonderful thoughts!--you certainly were busy and it sounds like your families all had a great time. I believe that staying at the farm allows large families with divergent interests to all find fun--and also a little peace. I built the property for family gatherings with my children and grand children but i do get a great deal of vicarious pleasure even when it is someone else. Please return-- in all four seasons there is plenty to keep you busy best Dan
