How can one choose between the sunrise, the beautiful canoe and row boat rides during the day or the unbelievable summer sunsets? Luckily, you don't have to, they are all right in front of you when you stay in our Getaway Cottage on Daniels Pond! Available for year-round rentals so you can enjoy the natural and unspoiled beauty of the Northeast Kingdom during Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall.
Have you ever stayed at a mountain top lake? Daniels Pond is a little slice of Vermont heaven - a perfect place to enjoy some peace and tranquility. It is a nature lovers delight!
The cottage is waterfront, with the shoreline only steps from the door. It has an open floor plan with natural cedar walls, exposed wood beams and views of the water and mountains at every turn. This fully appointed lakefront home, ideally for couples, small group of friends or small family with children over 8 yrs. It has easy one level living with a bedroom on the main floor, perfect for older couples.
It is located in an area known as the Northeast Kingdom, named by the National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations as one of the most desirable places to visit in the United States. Daniels Pond is a 66 acre pond of quiet, pristine water, well known for the spectacular, romantic sunsets. It's quiet, in part because Vermont does not allow powerboats or jet skis here.
Enjoy snowshoeing, skiing, fishing, swimming, use of our canoe, row boat and 2 pool floats. Feel free to bring your own kayaks as it takes about an hour to paddle around the pond. Right outside your door is the level yard, picnic table, private dock and shoreline. The cottage is located on a very quiet dead end road. A great place to walk, play, ride bikes, explore the back roads and enjoy the water. This is a majestic place that gives you a wonderful sense of getting back to nature and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Gorgeous Fall Foliage colors intensify and change every day, right in front of your eyes!
Why not just sit back and relax, watch the clouds go by and gaze up at the stars each night....when was the last time you did that? Don't you deserve A Getaway?
(The property is not suitable for children under 8 yrs old)
The owners, Kristi & Ed are from VT. We have been married for more than 30 years and love this calm retreat that is our 'secret' on Daniels Pond. We grew up an hour away from Glover, near Montpelier, the capital city. Kristi has been visiting the pond with family since she was a very little girl. We like to shop at at Currier's Store, Pete's Greens Farm Stand and Burtt's Apple Orchard. You might pass us on the Mt. Pisgah hiking trail, bid against us at an Albany auction or catch us floating the sunny afternoon away on the pond. We have fun by chasing a golf ball down the Westmore golf course, standing in line for an ice cream at Pick & Shovel and eating a Strawberry Shortcake at the Irasburg Church Fair. One of our summer favorites (July) is a day trip to Fitch Bay (Quebec-so bring your passport) where wineries and Bleu Lavande (Lavender Farm Fields) are located. We love exploring the towns of the Northeast Kingdom (and Eastern Townships of Quebec) and all they have to offer. We love winter too, Skiing at Jay Peak and Burke Mountain and show shoeing around the pond on snowy day followed by a glass of wine in front of the fire!
Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners purchased this house in 2012
We love the beautiful and unspoiled location, the quiet sounds of the Pond and close proximity to mountains and small towns. From May to October we like to shop for vegetables, eggs and more at farm stands on the side of the road and the many local Farmers Markets. Visit local country stores, small family owned shops, county fairs, festivals & church suppers. Make time to check out the Bread & Puppet Theater Museum, Circus Smirkus, Craftsbury Chamber Players as well as the many artists that reside in the area. This is where you get outside to enjoy hiking, biking, fishing and boating on some of the most beautiful land & water anywhere. In the fall, the leaves change color and the foliage is legendary - you have to see it to believe it! From December through April, skiing/riding Jay Peak, Burke Mountain or Stowe, and snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling are available throughout the area. Jay Peak also has a huge, amazing indoor water park that is open year round! Each spring brings the 'Maple Sugar Season' where the famous VT Maple Syrup 'Liquid Gold' is bottled for all to enjoy on pancakes, ice cream & more!
Daniels Pond is so beautiful and this cottage was hand built in the 1980's by Kristi's Dad. He cut down the cedar trees on the lot and used them to build the cottage-all the wood you see inside, he put up by hand! As you can see it is waterfront and has a small sandy beachfront on the edge of the pond, perfect for wading in the water slowly or sitting on the dock and kicking your feet. In the winter, it's perfect for Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing and Cross Country Skiing on the pond. This is a magical place to relax, reconnect with nature (and each other) and get away from it all. Don't you deserve A Getaway on Daniels Pond?
Our family spent a week at Kristi and Ed's cottage. Great place to unwind and relax. The cottage, clean with very comfortable beds is located on a beautiful pond that is perfect for quiet water boating and wild life viewing. We were fortunate to see loons, an otter and a bald eagle. The cottage is well stocked with basic necessities such as coffee and spices and basic meal prep ingredients. The owners were very welcoming and excited to share their knowledge about the area with us. They also provided wonderful special touches such as fresh flowers and a welcome basket of goodies upon arrival that included local maple syrup. The cottage itself is all we could have hoped for, and more! We would highly recommend it!
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful week at The Getaway Cottage. Kristi and Ed were attentive hosts and ensured we had everything we needed and a few extras as well. The cottage is well stocked, clean and extremely comfortable. The lakefront had a gentle slope into the water, good for easing yourself into or for guiding in the boat or canoe. We brought a paddle board with us which was another great way to explore the lake. The fact that power boats are not permitted allows for a more relaxing stay. The cottage is equipped with a modern television with Direct TV and extremely good WiFi service. There is also a land line with free calls in the US. This proved vital for us as there is no cell service in the area. The cottage also contains a binder with incredibly useful information about the area and places to explore. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the breathtaking Vermont scenery. I can’t compliment Kristi and Ed enough for their commitment and generosity, and for creating such a pleasant experience for us.
This is a lovely lake house in northern Vermont. Our family of four comfortably stayed in this well equipped house for a week of blissful relaxation. The owners, Kristi and Ed, have thought of every thing you may need from canoes, lifejackets, floats, face clothes, beach towels and potholders!
The senery is breathtaking, the pond is pristine and the memories will last a lifetime!
We spent five restful days here with our family of five. The beauty of this property is that you can spend most of your time outside if the weather permits which is such a luxury --- reading in the hammock with the gentle waves lapping right beneath you, boating, swimming and playing croquet. If you are aching for a simple get away on a beautiful, clean pond with a sweet house this is a great spot. The water was lovely and I swam every morning. Kristi was a very accommodating hostess, the house had all the amenities you needed and the beds were incredibly comfortable. This is the kind of place you daydream about in the midst of a hectic work day!
Thank you so much for a lovely family vacation! We look forward to returning next year.
Exceeded all our expectations -- recommend without reservations!
Probably the nicest cottage we've ever rented. Really cozy with lots of wood (walls, ceilings) and comfortable furniture (including the beds - we slept like babies!). Loved the upstairs loft! And loved the location - situated on a gorgeous waterfront lot with beautiful lawn, trees, flowers and decorative fence; very private. Everything was super nice and clean, and many items were provided (so not a lot of packing was necessary). Although minimal time was spent on these, TV/Internet (Wi-Fi) service was excellent.... and landline calls were free (in U.S.). The outdoor Adirondack chairs were very comfortable, and we'd sit in them each evening to watch sunsets from the dock. We were quite lazy and didn't do much cooking... maybe next time, as there was a really nice gas grill for guests and a nearby country store with delicious looking steaks!
The owners, Kristi & Ed were about the nicest people we could ever meet. Very friendly, generous and thoughtful. They performed many little kindnesses that really made us feel welcome and added to our enjoyment.
Though we spent a good deal of time simply relaxing at the cottage, we also got around the area a bit and took in the sights. We had supper one late afternoon in Newport after taking a nice drive along Lake Memphre Magog. (It seems we hit the local hot spot, "Parker Pie Company" for lunch or supper just about every other day. We simply cannot say enough about the food there!) We also drove around nearby Crystal Lake & Lake Willoughby... and did a 6 mile walking tour around Douglas pond (really more of a "hike"!). On Thursday we crossed the border into Quebec to visit Bleu Lavende - only about 45 minutes to the north and really a great day - toured the lavender fields, had lunch, and a foot/leg massage while overlooking gorgeous views. So, there was a lot to do, and things were close by, which was nice because it allowed ample time for hanging out at the cottage with our favorite adult beverage of choice... and for dreaming! :)
Sadly, our week came to an end and we had to leave paradise :( But, there's always next year! :)
Thanks Kristi & Ed. We had a wonderful time. Hope to see you again soon. Jeff & Lynn

Those that would like to explore Quebec, remember to BRING YOUR PASSPORTS! The Canadian border is only 35 minutes away, where you can experience the Eastern Townships in the Province of Quebec, We love to explore the small Wineries, shops and brasserie's in and around the towns of Magog, Fitch Bay & Stanstead. In July, our favorite is the Lavender Farm, "Bleu Lavande" for amazing relaxation, massages, music and local lavender products. Also, venture to Montreal for the casino, Jazz Festival, F1 Canadian Grad Prix, Just For Laughs comedy festival and more, it's just a 2 hour drive away!
Take a day trip to Stowe/Waterbury and visit Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, stop by Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Cabot Cheese Annex, Green Mountain Coffee and Lake Champlain Chocolates to round out your must have VT Food & Drink day! Plan ahead to pick up your Heady Topper from The Alchemist on its delivery day to a local store.

Visit the Hill Farmstead Brewery (Greensboro) for top rated microbrew and Caledonia Spirits famous Barr Hill Gin and Vodka (Hardwick). You must have the pizza at The Parker Pie Co (W. Glover) and then you'll know why Food Network Magazine called it one of 'America's 50 Best Pizzas'.
