About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10, Riverfront with forest and mountain views

Get away from it all in this custom built mountain lodge located on the Salmon River and bordering the 61,000 acre Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. The Salmon River Chalet is the perfect retreat for families looking to find a place to get away and relax up at beautiful Mount Hood. You will enjoy 3,000 sq. feet of comfortable cabin space and over an acre of forested riverfront property on the scenic Salmon River.

The chalet's large open floor plan is perfect for entertaining the whole family with the centrally located kitchen situated between two large living spaces. At one end of the chalet, the living room displays high vaulted ceilings with large windows overlooking the forest. At the other end, the game room is stocked with board games, toys for the kids, foosball, and air hockey. Perfect for a family game night around the fire. The large wooden deck wraps around the entire lower level to connect the family together for BBQs and beautiful views of the forest.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the chalet's upstairs master bedroom which has its own private deck overlooking the forest and river. The master also includes a log king-sized log bed, an en-suite bathroom with soaking tub, and tile shower with private forest views. Listen to the soothing sounds of the Salmon River while you read a book in the reading nook in this luxurious master suite.

The main floor of the cabin has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms-enough room for the whole family to spread out and relax. The bedrooms include: the ‘Golf Room’ with a log king-sized log bed, the ‘Cabin Room’ with two twin sized log beds, and 'The Bear Den' with two bunk-beds for the kids to enjoy.

Love nature? Take a hike on the nearby The Bonanza Trail (#786). The trailhead is only a half-mile away from the cabin, no need to drive- just take a short hike to your hike! The Bonanza trail follows scenic Cheeney creek and goes past the old abandoned Bonanza mine. Other nearby scenic hikes include: The Salmon River Trail, Ramona Falls, and the Mirror Lake Trail with stunning reflections of Mt Hood.

The Salmon River Chalet is close to world class skiing and snowboarding with numerous ski resorts located on & around Mt Hood. Ski Bowl, Timberline, and Mt Hood Meadows are easily accessible and offer extensive terrain, high speed lifts, and full service amenities. Timberline is America's only year-round ski resort, and Mt Hood Ski Bowl offers the largest night skiing area in America.

In the summer, there is excellent mountain biking, including purpose built trail systems and even chair lift-assisted downhill terrain at Ski Bowl. The Sandy River Trail alone contains more than 15 miles of purpose built single track trails appealing to a variety of difficulty levels.

The cabin sits directly on the beautiful Salmon River which is fed by Mt. Hood's glaciers and contains some of the best fly fishing in Oregon. Alpine lakes are also nearby and feature great fishing, hiking, bird watching, and photo opportunities.

The Resort At The Mountain is just a mile away, offering a 27-hole championship golf course, a full service spa, and other amenities.

Excellent nearby restaurants include Italian, Mexican, alpine, burgers, pizza and pub fare. We have recommended list of restaurants listed in our cabin book.

The cabin's backyard is the Mt Hood National Forest and the vast Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, which contains excellent hiking, mountain biking, and mountaineering.

With so much to explore up at Mt. Hood we hope you enjoy your stay at the cabin and come again soon!

About Dana & Ryan Rodman

We are the Rodman family and we live in Portland, Oregon. Our two young children are growing up quickly and we realized we needed a place to slow down and relax from our busy city life. We fell in love with beautiful Mt. Hood and our family enjoys biking, hiking, sledding and skiing all year round up at the mountain. The fly fishing is great too and is right in the cabin's backyard! We hope to share our love of the mountain with you and your family as you enjoy your stay at our cabin.

Dana & Ryan Rodman purchased this chalet in 2012

Why Dana & Ryan Rodman chose Mount Hood

The Salmon River Chalet sits in a beautifully wooded area right between the Salmon River and the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. The cabin has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 2 decks, and 2 large living spaces for the whole family to spread out and enjoy. The setting is private and pristine, a perfect place to relax and get away.

What makes this chalet unique

We've rented lots of cabins up at Mt. Hood before we purchased this home and we know that having a few cabin 'extras' can make your stay much more enjoyable for your family. That's why our cabin is stocked with family board games, decks of cards, a foosball table, and it even has alpine themed books for the kids to enjoy for bedtime stories. We've tried to think of activities that both adults and kids of all ages of kids would enjoy at our cabin to make help create the best family memories. Adults can relax on the large deck overlooking the forest with a cup of cocoa and a book while the kids play with Lincoln Logs and build their own mountain cabin. The whole family can take a short stroll down the property to our campfire pit right at the river bank. Everyone can enjoy s'mores and tell stories about your day up on the mountain. This cabin has something special for everyone!

Beautiful place with some issues.

  • 3 of 5

We think the place and the property is amazing. It didn't match for our group. We start every review with 5 stars and we discount and raise our review with pros and cons. The first star was removed to the amount of rules. It seemed like we could never fully relax with there always being a risk of a fee. The next star was removed because to accommodate 10 guests 4 adults would have to sleep in the master. That may have been made clear prior, so my apologies if I missed something. Another star was removed because of the various maintenance and cleanliness issues that we had. I have outlined those to the owner. A star was added because of the property. It was beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful time with my friends/family. A very beautiful place that will be 5 stars for many groups.

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (plus a family of 5 who were with us one of the nights) stayed here for four nights. We absolutely LOVED it. The house is so well equipped with everything you would need. Drawers in the kitchen were labeled so you never had to go on a mad search. The master bedroom is absolutely HUGE. If this house allowed more people you could easily fit 10 extra people on the floor up there. It's that big. And the master bath with a large walk in shower and soaking tub were just what I needed at the end of the evening. We had a lot of rain and snow while we were there but managed to get out and go exploring...we even found a family of deer. Mt Hood is only a 20 minute drive and the skiing was awesome this year! Such good snow!

Beautiful Property with Everything You Could Ever Need

  • 5 of 5

Just came up here for a ski weekend with friends. It was hard not to just decide to stay at this chalet for the whole weekend instead of heading up to Mt. Hood. As many reviews had said, this house was fully loaded and stocked + everything was labeled! Ah - as a Type A person, how that makes me happy, you have no idea!

I really only had 2 small issues/things for people to be aware of that really don't affect your enjoyment of the home:

(1) THE ROAD: The roads leading off the main road to the chalet are very rough and would not be good if you have a smaller compact car. There were a lot of pot-holes and were just unavoidable so that is just something to be aware of. Most people heading out up to the mountain should have a larger, sturdier car anyway, but if you are there for other reasons, just something to prepare yourself for.

(2) MUFFIN TINS: The app had said that the house carried muffin tins, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I was a little sad that I couldn't make bacon egg muffin tins for the group, but oh well - we ended up doing scrambled eggs. Next time, if I really want to make this for breakfast, I'll remember to bring my own. It was certainly not a huge need, but just a small nice-to-have!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at The Salmon River Chalet! The road from the bridge does get a few pot holes during the winter, we'll make sure to fill those up with gravel this spring when things thaw out. Also, sorry about the missing muffin tins, I like to make breakfast muffins too so I'll make sure to replace them ASAP. Thanks for the great feedback and come back anytime. Summers on the mountain are great too!

Beautiful, well stocked house in a secluded private area

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time. The house was large and had all of the amenities needed for cooking and enjoying ourselves. Air hockey was fun and they had a ton of games that we played. Absolutely everything was labeled, so much so that it becane a running joke on our trip, but it was extremely convenient. The location was also beautiful, but wet. We played horseshoes and could easily walk to the river with only a couple of other houses in sight. All of this with a market about 5 minutes away. Overall, we had a blast and loved the house.

Highly recommed without hesitation

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place, every aspect of it. Lots of attention to detail, well-appointed kitchen, roomy, and a very organized cabin. Owners make everything simple with labels on every drawer and cabinet for ease of finding things. The grounds and decks were the highlight and the reason we booked this cabin (they did not disappoint). We had so much fun on the trails and wading in the river. Having a good long hike close to the property was also appreciated. The only issue was we were unable to get the wireless or dish network to work, but honestly with the olympics on we probably would have watched too much tv instead of being outside. We were glad to be forced to be unplugged the entire time as cell phone reception is also hit and miss. I have no doubt they would have helped us fix the wireless and tv if we had called but decided to enjoy it. There were plenty of fun games, DVDs, air hockey, mini foosball, and outdoor entertainment to suit us. Recommend stopping in Sandy for groceries (Fred Meyer or Safeway) as the market closer to the cabin is pretty small and pricey.

One final note for those who care...there is a neighbor not too far off to the left of the house which is fairly visible, more from some parts of the property than othets. The photos do not show the other house but would guess they are more than 100 yrds away (but may be very visible from the house if no leaves on the trees).

Owner's Response: Yay, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Salmon River Chalet! Thank you for the great feedback. We love the serenity of the trails and the river too. Sorry to hear about the tv/wireless, let us know right away since our property managers are a mile away and are always happy to help with any issues. Usually a simple reboot of the router does the trick. Come back during ski season and enjoy the snow!
