If you are planning on visiting Amsterdam with a group of friends or family, you need to search no further. With a spacious living/lounge/dining area and open kitchen this is a great home away from home. Many guests spend hours enjoying the amazing canal view this apartment has to offer.

You will literally find every type of shop and restaurant around the corner, and any and all of the major sights are within walking distance. This apartment will offer you insight into the history of Amsterdam itself. It was built over 400 years ago and still boasts many of its original characteristics.

This canal apartment is located on the top three two floors. Two flights of stairs are circular and one is a straight flight. One enters the Grand Sonnenberg apartment on the beletage, after climbing a set of stone stairs of half a floor level. All three floors have excellent views of the canals, and there is a bench on the porch as well as one on the canal side.

Behind the front door there is a hallway to the first set of circular stairs leading to a hallway on the first floor of the house. This hallway has a door that leads to the beletage of the Snug Sonnenberg apartment, it is only unlocked when both apartments are rented by the same guests. Practically every room in the house has its own adjustable radiators, it is quite easy to keep this house warm and comfortable in winter. As each room also has windows, it is quite easy to create a nice breeze in the house cooling it down in the summer. There are also fans available on the rare summer days that it is actually hot.

On the first floor there is a toilet in the hallway, and a door to the living/dining room. This floor has a beautiful wooden floor as well as beams supporting the floor above. In the front (canal side) of this floor there is a spacious living area with sofa’s (one is a sleeping sofa) and TV. This is a great area to relax after or before a day of exploring all the sights of Amsterdam. You will find an open kitchen and a large dining table in the back of the floor. The kitchen is fully equipped except for a dishwasher.

It is not hard to imagine enjoying a spending an evening with a good diner and equally good conversations at the dining table with dimmed light shining from the chandelier. With ample heating present, the smells from the kitchen and friends swapping stories at the table, this is typically what the Dutch will call “gezellig”. The word “gezellig” is considered to be an example of untranslatability, and is one of the hardest words to translate. Some consider the word to encompass the heart of Dutch culture.

One floor up with the circular staircase there is the floor with one bedroom (twins) in the front, with canal views and the master bedroom in the back (optional with twins, on request). On this floor located in between the two bedrooms is the bathroom, with a toilet, sink, and a bath with shower. The front bedroom has a carpeted floor and the back bedroom a wooden floor, the bathroom floor is marble.

Lastly, of the converted attic floor only the front room is accessible for guests and has twins as well as canal views. The beautiful antique wooden roof-beams are visible here, instilling one with a deep sense of history that is present throughout the entire house.

Location description

The Sonnenberg is located in the canal belt in the part known in Amsterdam as the “nine streets” area. The nine streets area is well known for its plentiful boutique shops, many restaurants, and its beautiful canals. This area is comprised of nine narrow streets running perpendicular with the four major canals (Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht) of the canal belt. It is distinctly different from other shopping districts as there is a large diversity of privately owned shops and specialized shops.

This apartment has 4 internal flights. From street level to the entrance there is a short stone flight of stairs up to the front door. From here there is a circular flight of stairs to the Living/kitchen level. The circular staircase continues up to a floor with 2 bedrooms and the full bathroom. From this last level there is a single flight of straight stairs up to the attic bedroom. The stairs are steep and narrow, as is typical for a 400 year old house. However with closed doors stairs are not accessible.

I love to share my experience of the wonderful city of Amsterdam. In my opinion the best way to see the city is with friends on an open canal boat on a nice day or evening.

My properties all have short stay permits and I operate them as a registered business with the Chamber of Commerce, properly paying taxes both VAT and city tax. This ensures you will not wake up early in the morning to government workers dropping by to check on illegal activities.

L'appartamento è davvero meraviglioso ed affaccia su uno dei più bei canali di Amsterdam: l'Herengracht. Vi sono stato con la mia famiglia (2 adulti e due bambini di 9 e 5 anni) e con una famiglia di amici ( 2 adulti e una bambina di 6 anni).

Era quello che cercaramo: una tipica casa olandese signorile. Appena si entra c'è un ingresso (in cui lasciavo il passeggino pieghevole) da cui parte una rampa di scale che arriva al bellissimo soggiorno con pranzo cucina e ripostiglio (c'è anche un piccolissimo bagno con wc e lavandino);al piano superiore ci sono due camere da letto (una affaccia sul canale e l'altra, un pò buia, ha solo delle finestre che affacciano sui tetti dei vicini), il bagno ha due ingressi (uno da una camera e uno dall'altra camera); dal vano scale c'è poi l'ultima ripidissima scaletta di pochi gradini che conduce al delizioso sottotetto con due letti ed una finestra che affaccia sul canale.

La posizione comodissima a due passi da tutto. Allo Spui troverete ristoranti ed anche un comodo supermercato aperto fino a tarda ora.

Il proprietario è gentilissimo, molto disponibile...una persona speciale!!!!

Exceptional experience all around. Comfortable, charming and ideal accommodation for our family of 6 adults. Location is amazing on Herengracht canal. View from front room of canal and cross-over bridge is right out of a storybook. Wytse is gracious and accommodating -- a pleasure to work with as we planned our trip to Amsterdam. This was a highlight of our family's European trip.

You must book this apartment if you are staying in Amsterdam. Location: Quintessential canal location, mostly locals so you get a great feel for the city. Sit out front on the bench with a coffee or glass of wine and watch boats go by, bikers off to work, shoppers walking. It is very close to so many restaurants, bars, grocery stores - honestly I would move into this apartment. As for the inside, it is beautifully done, tasteful decor, clean and with everything you could possibly need for a holiday stay. There were 8 of us, our four children and my parents, and there was plenty of room for everyone. You will not regret this booking.

Fantastic Apartment in Central Amsterdam

This is an awesome apartment! I would rent it again. The owner is responsive, friendly and honest for all aspects. The location just does not get any better than this. Safe location, easy access to central Amsterdam, easy to find, around the corner from the tram and easy access to the grocery store. My wife and I travelled with our two teenagers and there is enough space for everyone. Kitchen is well stocked and there is a easy to use washing machine. Wytse thankyou for the most memorable opportunity.

Excellent central location spacious & comfortable.

Treat yourself to the comforts of home in this historic apartment!

This safe and central location makes it easy to get around Amsterdam by foot, tram, taxi or boat.

The beds are a comfortable respite after a tiring flight as well as when you call it a night after a long day of sightseeing.

You will love the excllent view of canal activity right outside of the living room window! We pulled chairs up to the window and had the perfect up-close-and-personal grandstand seating for King's Day canal activity viewing!

The spaciousness of the 3 floors allowed 4 women to travel together and each still have their own space! And yes...there was always plenty of hot water for all of us to shower!

We even became masters of the typical Dutch narrow, steep and winding staircases.

We made good use of the stove, refrigerator and stocked kitchenware for snacks, meals and a wine tasting or two! We recommend the cheese shop just steps from your front door and a trip to the House of Bols! Tasting Amsterdam doesn't get any better.

The owner, who lives below the apartment, was immediately accessible at all times and tended to our every need.

Communications from booking to check out were easy and prompt. Step-by-step processes for booking, payment, arrival, departure were friendly, professional and timely. We loved the recommendations for door-to-door airport taxi service, Think Tinker Taxi! (Highly recommend.)

If you are looking for a comfortable accommodation with all of the ammenities of home for your stay in Amsterdam, look no further!

Location, Location, and Location

Rent this apartment. I traveled with my wife and three teenage daughter to Amsterdam for Christmas. The apartment was amazing and Wytse the manager could not have been more helpful. He provided answers to many questions even before we arrived and was available during our stay as well. The apartment is ideal with three bedrooms and plenty of living space. The living room looks out over the canal and we all loved looking out the window at the small boats passing by. We came to Amsterdam during the international light festival and two major installations were on the same block as the apartment! It was amazing. We were able to walk everywhere from this spot. I could not recommend this place more - treat yourself and rent this apartment!

Beautiful apartment in a great location

The apartment was spacious, clean and in a great location. It was full of character with comfortable beds and great facilities. We were in walking distance of everywhere of interest. Check in and check out went smoothly, the host met us on arrival and was very pleasant.

This apartment is located on the most beautiful part of the Herengracht Canal within the Nine-Streets area. Within 400 meters of the apartment you can find many shops and restaurants. The shops are all of a boutique type, so no usual suspects in this area. The restaurants vary from good value student restaurants to top of the bill, and from Tibetan cuisine to soul food, from breakfast to deli take outs.

For children and adults of all ages there is a playground in the direct area, with climbing racks, swings. Must see Museums within about 15-20 minutes walking/tram include; Anne Frank house, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam Historical Museum and Canal House Museum. But there are at least 30 or 40 other museums nearby that are also worth visiting.

Without writing down an entire guide to the city of Amsterdam, this location will give you an excellent base to discover the many aspects of this world famous cosmopolitan city.
