Photos and Description of this Arroyo Seco holiday house

3 Bedroom, 2 bath (sleeps 8) private adobe home with panoramic mt views

Whether you are an artist, photographer, writer, birder, hiker, skier, or a person seeking solace, you will enjoy the rose-colored sunrise, the fiery Western sunsets, and the brilliance of high desert stars from the patio of native plants and stones while relaxing in a bubbling hot tub. This comfortable, perfectly located, exquisitely refurbished 50-year-old Adobe home designed with a blend of colonial-Spanish and contemporary accents sits on the rim of the arroyo that cascades 200 feet to an ancient pastoral valley, the end of which funnels into the national forest road into Taos Ski Valley. Looking out the picture windows at the high sage plains atop the arroyo, your heart will soar 5000 feet upward cresting the snow-capped Sangre de Cristo Mountains. You are 15 minutes from the slopes, 15 minutes from the plaza, and 15 minutes closer to heaven.

In the summer months you will awake to crimson-colored mts as the sun's early morning light blankets the Sangre de Cristo Mts. The air is crisp and the skies a brilliant blue. This is about the time we hit one of the amazing trails along the Taos Ski Valley or the Rio Grande Gorge. This is also the time we take out those fly fishing poles and catch some wonderful trout for supper! In the late afternoon, we enjoy watching the occasional and short-lived showers dance across the mountains...and by sunset, the sky is painted a myriad of colors from orange to magenta and somewhere in between. Just when you think it doesn't get any better, the stars begin to pop out one by one until the night sky takes your breath away once again.

You’ll find some of the best southwestern fall foliage -- all to be enjoyed from the comfort of this enchanting home. Here, the aspens range in color from brilliant gold to dark orange. Feast on purple cinquefoil and golden and red cottonwoods. Hikes and mountain drives are breath-taking this time of year.

Every season holds adventure here -- and winters are one of the most beautiful and exhilarating! From November to April we enjoy a winter wonderland as we watch the snow fall on the mountains that can be seen from the large picture windows in the living room and all the bedrooms. Because Taos enjoys 300 sunny days a year, we find winter hiking, snow shoeing, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, cross-country skiing, snow tubing, and hot toddy sipping to be some of life's greatest pleasures.

Come see and experience all these for yourself. We hope you will enjoy our little slice of heaven as much as we do!

About Catherine

We are Texans at heart (and by birth), world adventurers, music lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts. We love wrestling with grandchildren, two-stepping to original Texas music, and breaking a sweat on trails in Austin (our home town) and in Taos (our home away from home).

Why Catherine chose New Mexico

After spending many seasons here in childhood, living here in young adult hood, and returning often for visits to this land that calls us again and again, we stumbled upon this wonderful home that we'd like to share with you. We are pleased to introduce you and our third generation to the joys of New Mexico's justifiably named Enchanted Circle.

What makes this house unique

When we first walked into this house, we were struck by the high vigas-ceilings, exquisite in-laid wood features, the arched entry ways, and the light beaming from multiple skylights that gave a warm New Mexico embrace to each room. We loved the open floor plan that sweeps effortlessly from the living room to the dining room (which seats 8) to the remodeled kitchen equipped to prepare a gourmet meal.

We were captivated by the 6 ft. windows in the living room that provide a magical, unobstructed mountain view from sunrise to sunset into a Milky Way Night sky. The living space extends to an outdoor front courtyard with a private hot tub from which you can enjoy a clear and unobstructed view of the beautiful night sky, full of stars! Outdoor seating provides a private vantage point to all this property has to offer. The backyard has a tiered space with grass, aspen, and apple trees as well as flagstone patio with outdoor seating.

We hope you will enjoy this slice of heaven and add your own descriptions of what makes it unique and so special for you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a beautiful home the firewood was piled high when we arrived and the house was clean with lights on. They had a starter fire ready for us when we arrived. This home is in a great location (close to ski valley). The home is very comfortable with everything a person could need. Very well stocked with cookware and condiments. Although I have never met her in person Catherine was extremely gracious and provided us with information to make our stay easy and enjoyable. I love the fireplaces especially the one in the bedroom and the heated floors are amazing - wish I had them in my home. Phil the manager does an extremely good job managing the home and is extremely helpful if you need it. Phil even mailed us home some things our grandson left in the house. My daughter and son-in-law liked the hot tub outside. The view from the front of this house is amazing. Thanks for a Wonderful Christmas.

Great getaway

  • 4 of 5

The Taos Houses Retreat is a great place to get away. The house has everything needed. The view is spectacular and atmosphere lovely.

Our group consisted of 7 bowling friends and we found it a great place to visit and play games together. The trail across the street was enjoyable but a little rough for some us older out-of-shape folk.

We all had a lovely time.

5 Star house!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Taos House from the first moment we entered the courtyard - beautiful landscaping, clean hot tub and a relaxing place to enjoy the view. The house itself was everything I hoped it would be - well furnished, clean, fully stocked, comfy beds, great laundry facilities, and fabulous heated floors. The house is a short 8 mile drive to Taos, but it was so pleasant at the house that we could have stayed in the whole time. Catherine has thought of everything, from the spa robes to an information book that covers all the details of the house and surrounding area. The house truly is one of the best we have ever rented!

Very nice property, I'd stay again

  • 4 of 5

Check in is at 4:00PM and check out is at 10:00 Am. That is not alot of time for the price. I feel they should at least give you more time in the morning.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at the Taos House. Because we want to ensure the house and hot tub are spic and span for each guest, our exceptional housekeeping crew needs the "turn around" time to prepare for all our guests; however, we are always happy to offer an earlier check in and later check out when we do not have back-to-back guests. Your one night stay, squeezed between two other guests, unfortunately, did not allow us to make this accommodation on such short notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and fully understand why you would want to stay longer as the views are spectacular and lovely to enjoy in the mornings and evenings. We hope you will return when you are able to stay longer!

Owner's Response: We are delighted you enjoyed the Taos House Retreat and its convenient location to all that this beautiful area has to offer! Ski seasons just keep getting better and better with the recent renovations. As a matter of fact, here is a quote of a promise of what is to come for this season: "This year promises to be our best yet as more of the significant investments we've been making in the ski area become real for our guests and local residents for the first time. Visitors will immediately notice the improvements, however, the soul and mystique of Taos Ski Valley is still the same. Our world-class terrain, renowned snowsports school and children's program, and unique culture are unmistakably intact." We look forward to your return!

My family and I took a road trip family vacation from Houston Texas to Los Angeles California and our first stay was at this beautiful stucco pueblo home sitting close to the edge of an AWSOME view of the Rocky Mountains and and cool canyon valley setting, the home was just as described, real clean, organized and some😃👍🏽 it has everything you'll ever need for a week stay or longer and fully stocked towels and cleaning items and so on😉, we had an amazing time their even though we stayed just one night😔 wish we could of planned for a two or three day stay but was on a schedule.. The Omni lighting at night is real cool and the beds are so comfortable all my kids loved it so much I couldn't get them to wake up 😂😂... The out door spa tube was perfect for us when we arrived late at night it was nice and warm and relaxing with the jet streams messaging the my tired body from a 17hr drive. Catherine is so nice and so out going and even allowed us to stay an extra 2 hours because we arrived after Midnite, I would recommend this home to the whole world👍🏽👍🏽 and will be planning another stay in the near future with my parents.. God Bless you Catherine and family and my whole family appreciates everything and for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home👍🏽
