Overview

About the property

Large greatroom w/loft open above. 3BR, 2.5BA sleeps 10+

'Schuss Platz' is a traditional ski chalet with a large deck overlooking the valley. It is located a short walk from the top ski lodge parking lot on a very desirable street. There are 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths located on the first floor with a greatroom. The cathedral ceiling greatroom has a fireplace, large dining table, bar and a kitchen. There is a large deck across the back with a view of the deer paths through clearings in the woods. Overlooking the greatroom is a large vaulted ceiling loft sleeping/play area adjacent to a bedroom and bath. The loft has sliding glass doors to a balcony at the front. This was originally designed to be a 5 bedroom house but the loft was opened up, as well as, the 2 bedrooms below were enlarged so there is alot of room in this 1800+-SqFt chalet It is tastefully decorated with some antiques co-mingled to give a homey feel. The side entrance opens into a mudroom for boots, coats and laundry. The opposite entrance opens into the greatroom. The house is on pilings with two catwalk entrances (1 with no steps!). Driveway is at street-grade with room for 3 cars.

About Dart Alsmeyer

Hi, we are Helen & Dick and family (3 generations). We puchased this lot decades ago, had a cedar shell erected and have assisted tradesman complete the interior to our liking. It has been a great place for the extended family to gather since they are spread from Philly to North Carolina and this is a good central location. We have enjoyed watching the resort grow and add amenities (especially liked the additional ski slopes and golfing). This property was recently opened up to vacation rentals and look forward to sharing our home away from home.

Dart Alsmeyer purchased this house in 1976

Why Dart Alsmeyer chose McGaheysville

This is a superbly located chalet on the mountain near the top for views and proximity to the ski slopes. The open floorplan with the greatroom and loft above keeps everybody in close proximity and great for gatherings. There are 2 secluded and somewhat quiet bedrooms at the front of the house for those so inclined to sleep away their time here (not recommended though).

What makes this house unique

The gingerbread exterior makes you feel like you are at a Swiss chalet and the theme is carried throughout.

Cozy, rustic lodge with nature views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a 2 month stay with a one week break to DC area. The owners were very accommodating during the break allowing us to store our bikes and other personnel items in their private shed. Owners easy to communicate with if I had any questions about lodge or area. We hiked daily, enjoyed amenities that Massanutten offered; restaurants, entertainment, festivals. We hiked Shenandoah state park often, went to historical sites close by and lakes. Lodge has everything needed to make your stay comfortable.

Nicely stocked and located property, but dated.

  • 4 of 5

Overall, a decent place to stay, especially for the money. Lots of parking. Well-stocked kitchen. Adequate space overall, but the "living room" is tight. The beds are comfortable. It definitely needs updating, unless you like the 70s/80s. Also, the deck is in need of repair and there were a few boards I would not step on.

If you want a 5-star unit, go elsewhere. But this is good for 6 - 8 people.

It was dated and the outside needed a good pick me up.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The location and

Size of the house was great! We loved the fireplace and number of bedrooms. The kids liked the loft but dead ladybugs were in the beds. The downstairs beds were clean.

Perfect for my family

  • 5 of 5

This home is clean and nicely located. It's an older home and the furnishings are dated but everything works properly and is nicely maintained. We would definitely stay here again.

Great location, pet friendly and plenty of room

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The location is great for exploring Massanutten and surrounding areas. Plenty of room and had everything we could need for being away from home. It was clean, and we enjoyed seeing deer and a variety of birds from the deck.

A very cozy place to spend time with family! We will return!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our long weekend here! We had 10 people and we never felt crowded. It has a very cozy feel and the location is great! The owner was very good with correspondence, answered all questions/emails in a timely fashion. If you're looking for "The Ritz", this may not be for you. However, if you're looking for something that has a real "homey" feel to it, you will love it. We will definitely come back!
