Restored Stone House, 2 Bedroom/2 Bathroom, Close to Hvar Hotspots

Enjoy your private house, featuring a large garden, master suite with ensuite bath and private balcony. The second bedroom also has a large bath with a roll-top/clawfoot vintage tub (with shower head). The house has a large terrace where you can dine and relax under the stars or enjoy a sunny afternoon away from the crowds. An outdoor shower in the garden allows for rinsing off after the beach or showering by the light of the moon. The comfortable living area has a modern kitchen (with dishwasher), dining table, and sitting area for cozy stay-in evenings.

Three Roof House was purchased by the owner in 2007 and completely renovated to exquisite detail. The renovations were complete in 2012. The result is a comfortable space with lovely village and sea views alongside simple luxuries like a master suite, private balcony, air conditioning, and private terrace. The fully modern kitchen allows guests to prepare their own meals in comfort and includes a dishwasher, large fridge, oven/cooker, and stovetop/cooktop.

The beautifully renovated, 2 bedroom/2 bath house sleeps four comfortably in air conditioned bedrooms with room for up to 6 (sofa sleeper). The terrace and large garden provide you a private space to unwind and relax. Unfinished stone walls, sea views, and the peaceful surrounding of the village are the foundation for a restful and memorable vacation.

NOTE the house does not have internet access or TV. Unplug and enjoy your vacation! (internet access is widely available via wifi in island cafes should you require it).

About Dana Stinson

Three Roof Villa, is owned by Dana Stinson, an American who worked in post-conflict Bosnia and Kosovo for a number of years and often travelled to the Dalmatian coast for holidays.

Returning to the area in 2006, she became enchanted again with Croatia's coast and islands and decided to buy and renovate a traditional stone home in the area. Dana chose to settle on Hvar Island which reminded her of her new england roots.

Three Roof House is named for the three distinct roof-lines that were revealed during the renovation of the house between 2007 and 2012. One of the roof-lines was preserved in the living area, and can been seen in relief in the plaster on the first floor.

The desire to live in a renovated, traditional stone home was a long time dream of the owner. Working with the island's builders to preserve some of the historical feel of the home while creating a modern, inviting living space was the goal of the reconstruction. Hopefully you will enjoy the results!

Why Dana Stinson chose Vrbanj

This property, among many the owner saw on the island, was special. The large garden and terrace area provided privacy while the living space was spacious but comfortable. The renovation project was difficult and time consuming but resulted in the perfect home away from home.

What makes this house unique

Although the island of Hvar is special in itself, the peace and tranquility of Vrbanj village drew me to the house and to the island. The ability to be close to Jelsa and Star Grad towns, while enjoying the privacy of a house with its own garden area, was without match. Vrbanj is known as Hvar's 'living village' as many of the rural villages are either abandoned or sparsely populated. Vrbanj village has its own life and its own attributes of a community that make it special next to the larger towns nearby. The residents care well for their homes and fields, play bocce and soccer on the village fields, and have a pride in their village. I hope you will enjoy exploring the village and surrounding area.

On island transportation is the responsibility of the renter. Guests should contact the owner if they do not plan to arrive with a vehicle. Guests are requested to remove all trash from the property prior to their departure. Municipal trash containers are available right in front of the house. Clean up after departure is included in the rental price. Guests are requested to be mindful of the use of the air conditioning (AC) units in each bedroom. Please turn these off when you are not in the room.

Beautiful house, perfect location!

This was the perfect restful island retreat we were looking for. Dana's house is stunning. As soon as I stepped into her beautiful home I was in love (the old stone walls, beautiful wood floors, cute kitchen!) and perfectly at home. There are beautiful views of Vrbanj and the countryside right from the house. We went on a lovely walk into the hills nearby - saw tons of wildflowers (as well as wild rosemary!) and lots of charming scenery, including olive groves, grapevines, and lavender fields. We visited Hvar Town, Jelsa, and Starigrad as well as smaller villages. Everywhere we went was SO CHARMING! We had tons of great food and wine (and lots of gelato :) everywhere we went.

Dana's house is in an excellent location, super close to the port, a short drive to get to other towns or beach, and a great starting point for some beautiful walks. There is also a great pizza place/restaurant, a couple coffee places, and a post office a very short walk down the street from her house. The house was very clean and well maintained, and well stocked with dishes and other essentials. There are some beautiful afghan rugs and other decor that add to the house's character and charm.

It was a magical visit and I cant wait to go back!

Gorgeous island getaway property

This house is gorgeous! We had such a lovely stay - it's nestled in a perfect little Croatian village and was the perfect atmosphere for our vacation. The house is totally renovated with hardwood floors, a beautiful kitchen, super comfy bedrooms, two fully equipped bathrooms (one with a big clawfoot bathtub - perfect for a long soak after the beach!!!). The house is immaculate and clean. We had a wonderful time making up a simple dinner in the kitchen and enjoying wine, food, and conversation at the GIANT table outside on the patio (it was made for entertaining!).

This house is so close to the pier in Stari Grad - just a short drive through grapevine-laden farms. We stopped at this really great grocery store right by the pier to stock up on goodies for the house (wine! bread! all the cheese!!!!). In the small village where the house is there is a small market with some basic essentials and about a 5 - 10 minute walk away is this AMAZING restaurant with tasty pizza - we sat under a giant tree and watched the world go by, enjoying pizza and liters of delicious Croatian wine.

This house is so perfectly located. There are dozens of places within a 10 - 20 minute drive to enjoy the water and restaurants (oh, and gelato. All the gelato). However I like to be located NEAR all these things, but not right in the thick of them (I like to sleep on vacation...a lot). So this house couldn't be more perfect. Close enough to all the things you want, but perfect for restful sleep-filled nights.

Wonderful stay at Dana's home!

We could not have asked for a better location and home on our visit to Hvar, Croatia. Dana was quick to answer all my questions when we first booked up until our arrival. The house had so much character and was extremely comfortable. We wished that we were able to spend more time there...three nights was not enough. I enjoyed the fact that it was in a quiet area but we could walk to a restaurant and grocery store. I would highly recommend staying here to experience this beautiful home in the quiet town of Verbanj! Thank you, Dana.

We had a wonderful time and adore the house! It was a perfect get away and so very comfortable. I wish we could have stayed longer. We went right before the season started and while it would have been nice to see the lavender fields and vineyards open the lack of crowds made it a very peaceful holiday. I have already told all my friends about this house and the island!

Feel At Home

We had a lovely time exploring Hvar island from this central location in a village that reminded us of rural village life in England. People are friendly and there are three places to have a drink right in the village itself, not to mention a very convenient shop! This is the place to stay to keep you away from the "maddening" crowds but near to everything to see and do on the island.

We saw the ghost of Hemingway.......

Our recent stay in the village of Vrbanj on Hvar is where Hemingway would be if he were still with us in 2013. The opportunity to truly experience the Med as it once was with so many interesting and exciting things to discover within a 20 minute drive was truly amazing. As we drove to Konoba's (Tavern's) in nearby villages and visited secluded beaches that only in the know Croatians frequent, we realized we had made an excellent strategic decision basing ourselves here. Dana's Veranda provided an excellent place each evening to reflect on the day's discoveries as we drank excellent white wine mixed with sparkling water as locals enjoy watching the sun go down behind the mountain.

Vrbanj is central to everything. We literally would wake up everyday looking forward to exploring a new part of the island or restaurants near by. We found the information provided for us listing all favorite beaches and top restaurants very helpful. Our favorites were the Tavern in Vrisnik with great wine that they will bottle for you and let you take away not to mention the wonderful family that runs the place and their terrific food. We also loved the beach at Dubavice where the Tavern serves fish caught that morning in a picture perfect setting. The great thing about this location is that you can go in any direction and experience something amazing. We met a couple staying in Hvar town who told us how they wish they would have stayed in a place like this.

The flat is has all of the basic amenities and is very comfortable, clean and well maintained. Mick the property manager is ready to help and Dana is on standby via email if you have any requests. We loved the place and will be back next year.

Located within 5 kilometers of the towns of Stari Grad, Vrboska, and Jelsa, the villa offers easy access to the best island restaurants, beaches, and nightlife without the noise, crowds, and hassle of staying in a town center. Hvar Town, one of the hottest vacation and party places in Europe, is a 20 minute drive from the villa.

Although the summer is the most popular time to visit the island famous for lazy beach days and vibrant evenings, Hvar is equally beautiful in the spring and fall. Spring's bloom features lovely wildflowers and quiet enjoyment of the island's beauty. Hvar's famous Easter processional or 'Za Krizen', recognized by UNESCO as a non-material world cultural event, is a unique feature of the season. The early summer Lavendar Festival has drawn visitors to the village of Velo Grablje to celebrate the tradition of the fragrant plant on the island. The fall, with the island's bounty coming in from the fields, is an ideal time to witness grape and olive harvests and see the island's wine making in process.

Each of the towns near the villa are unique. The closest, Jelsa town, features excellent restaurants, a lively nightlife, and a nice swimming area a short walk from the town center. Jelsa is a great place to have a coffee or a glass of wine while watching the world go by in the central square. Vrboska is a boating village with cafes and restaurants and a beach popular with families just beyond the town. Stari Grad is the main port for ferries and has a rich history starting in Roman times with some of the island's best restaurants. Stari Grad is a lovely place for a lazy stroll and a coffee in the numerous cafes. The town beach is popular and stretches from just outside the town to the ferry dock. The walk along the beach from Stari Grad to the ferry takes about 20 minutes.

The village of Vrbanj, where the villa is located, hosts a welcoming tavern style restaurant, Konoba Bogo, and two cafe bars in the village square. A post office and village grocer provide easy access to basic needs of visitors and villagers alike. Bus service is available for transport to Hvar's major towns. Walking trails leading out of the village make for lovely hikes to the nearby villages of Dol and Srvice, or just walking among the hills and vineyards. Cycling enthusiasts will find the Faros cycling route runs right through the village - and bikes are available for rent in Jelsa and Stari Grad.
