About the property

Modern Studio w/ queen bed and pull-out couch, full bath & kitchen.

This is a private, well-appointed studio apt on the 3rd floor of an 1899 brownstone, only 20 minutes by train from Manhattan. The lovely, light-filled space offers an impressive mix of historic charm and modern design, Fully equipped with linens, dishes, and comfortable furnishings, this studio has been thoughtfully renovated. It has two large windows that overlook the back garden, as well as two skylights. It boasts an original decorative fireplace, restored wood floors, brand new appliances, and a modern marble & glass shower. Wi-fi and premium cable TV (with HBO) are included. Though cozy, it is well designed and is perfect for one person, a couple or two close friends. This Brooklyn neighborhood is charming and tree-lined, and the popular neighborhood cafe is a half-block away. Shopping, restaurants, and laundry are all within a short walking distance, and the subway station is a 5-min walk. A trip to Manhattan takes only 20 mins to downtown and 30 to Times Square.

Experience: We have been renting another studio in our home for over 3 years and have never had a bad experience. To read the many reviews about us and our house, please visit our other older Homeaway listing, #256524.

Convenient New York Location: Three blocks from A express to Manhattan (15 mins to Wall Street, 35 to Times Square), ½ block to grocery store and laundromat, one block from coffee shop that is the heart of the neighborhood, one block from good bistro-style restaurant, nice wine shop around the corner, three doors down from small park with playground.

Completely Private Apartment Within A Real Home: This apartment is completely private, with locked door, on the top-floor of a townhouse occupied by a family (us). On rare occasions, guests may see us in the hallway (two parents, a 6-year-old, and a very friendly dog named Lucy), coming in or out of the building. Guests can feel free to ask questions about NYC or the neighborhood at any time, but are also assured of privacy.

Payment: 1/2 Payment will be expected prior to the start of the vacation and the remainder of the payment upon arrival. Payment may be made online, through PayPal, or (if time allows) by check via postal mail.

Cancellation Policy: A full refund will be given if reservation is canceled 30 days in advance. At 15 days, 1/2 of the amount will be refunded. After that, the deposit is no longer refundable.

About Leecia & Mike

Mike & Leecia didn't grow up in NYC but they've come to love the vibrant life of one of the world's great cities. They own a mid-century modern furnishings business called I Like Mike's Mid-Century Modern with a by-appointment showroom on the first floor of their Brooklyn brownstone (come visit!), and enjoy a busy neighborhood life with their young daughter and very friendly dog Lucy.

Leecia & Mike purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Leecia & Mike chose Brooklyn

This house has a great location, near the subway and other attractions--like a playground and tennis court--and also provides the unique brownstone experience that you can't get in any other kind of dwelling. It's house living in the heart of the city. Stuyvesant Heights is a lovely historic area, rich in trees, churches, and brownstones--and it offers a retreat from the intensity of Manhattan while also being conveniently close.

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment has not one but two skylights, in addition to the two large windows. It has been restored with unusual care, with attention to comfort and detail.

Leecia was a fantastic host, very accommodating, and always available to offer suggestions or answer any questions you may have. The area is great with plenty of nice restaurants within walking distance and only a five minute walk to the nearest subway (which will get you to Manhattan in 10 minutes). Our vacation was an absolute dream and we will certainly be staying here again when we decide to come back.

I have been in this appartment for the third time and I was very satisfied again. Our landlady is a very symphatetic woman and she has done for us everything possible. Hopefully we will sometimes come back.

Charming and quaint

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is in a neighbourhood that I love and is centrally located to many essential things....the subway, lots of cute restaurants and coffee shops, the laundromat and the grocery store.

The apartment is cozy and comfortable - perfect for 1 or 2 people!! Leecia was very gracious and gave me lots of advice about various New York things and was always available by phone if I needed something.

I'll be back soon.

Wonderful location and terrific accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I have dreamed of coming to NYC at Christmastime for years and finally arrived Dec 3 thru Dec 7. We have always wanted to stay in a brownstone and were excited to book accommodations with Leecia and Mike on the top floor of their brownstone in Bed-Sty. Leecia was very friendly and helpful during our booking/planning process. She sent us detailed instructions to get from the airport to the house and when we arrived, she gave us all sorts of nearby options for meals and shopping.

We loved our room! Everything was clean, cupboards were stocked (we even had honey for our tea!), and fixtures worked perfectly. And oh so comfortable! We had good weather our entire visit except one night when it rained, but listening to the rain on the skylight in the room helped us fall asleep. Leecia was always available if we needed help but also respectful of our privacy - not pushy or intrusive. That is so appreciated, especially when realistically we were staying in someone's home.

Every morning, we visited the little 24-hour deli on the corner to grab our egg sandwich and coffee before heading to the subway just a couple blocks away. Leecia recommended it to us as a typical New York breakfast and the sandwiches were very good. There is a great Tex-Mex joint around the corner and up a couple blocks; we had our dinner there the first night and it was delicious. The neighborhood is beautiful and real-life - lots of families and working folks who always said hello or good morning as we passed.

We will definitely contact Leecia and Mike when we come back to NYC. If you are planning a trip to NYC and want to stay in Brooklyn in the heart of a great neighborhood, get in touch with them. I truly have nothing but praise for their hospitality and for our accommodations!

This location is excellent for those who want close 24-hour train access to Manhattan (only 20 minutes on the subway) while also enjoying the easy living of beautiful Brooklyn. Located in the historic Stuyvesant Heights area of Bedford-Stuyvesant, the apartment is on the top floor of a historic brownstone on a classic tree-lined block, and is located between two subway stops that are both an easy 5-minute walk away. A grocery store, cafe and laundromat are around the corner; several excellent restaurants thrive within a 3 blocks of the apartment, and there are many other small, useful shops nearby as well.
