This newly built Grand Bahama Vacation Rental Home located on the water with boat access is professionally decorated and has a simple charm for both the beach goers and the fishermen. If you are a sport fisher or like to play on the water, this is your tropical paradise. Pull your boat up to the dock or simply throw your bait in the water right out back at the landing. The house has been stylishly decorated, making it a warm and cozy place to read, relax or sunbathe on the back deck. The landing has a 15 foot deep canal that doubles as a gateway for some of the best fishing and diving the Caribbean has to offer. A short walk down the road leads to the beach or snorkel the canal looking for tropical fish and lobster. Yes Lobster! In the evening, you are only a few short miles from the night life at Port Lucaya where you can dance the night away, enjoy a delicious dinner; or simply sit on the veranda in the rear of the home and smoke a cigar, star gaze, listen to music or even make a little of your own. If you would like to see more pictures and a 3 Dimensional tour of our tropical home on our website at www.HavenDelMar.com.
Traveling throughout the islands, I wanted to build a home that had a tropical feel in a remote location while still having the conveniences of a modern city. Freeport is a cool mix of the laid back life style of the Abacos coupled with a hint of the city life of Nassau. You can drive to the east side of the island and walk for miles and not see a soul; or you can drive down the road to a store similar to Sam's Club or Costco and buy a weeks worth of groceries for your family.
Haven Del Mar offers direct access to the ocean from the backyard. You can pull your boat up to the dock, thus eliminating expensive dockage fees. You have the convenience of offloading stores and the catch of the day without traveling or walking long distances to your lodging. Hot day? Jump in the canal and catch some lobsters. Enjoy the tropical fish that live and play under the dock. Swim across the canal and you'll be on a remote beach that its only habitats are blue crab and tropical birds. Hear the ocean waves splash and crash from the back deck. In one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Grand Bahama, Haven Del Mar is ready to give you and your family remarkable memories of your exotic vacation to the islands.
We did enjoy our stay. The home was clean except for drywall dust atop of every window. A by-product of them having to do so many repairs. The location was very quiet, with a nice setting. The dishwasher was disconnected, and for us, we did a lot of cooking, most would not find this a negative. The internet was not restored, again a problem from the storm, but cost us $140 to get service while we were there. The homeowner offered to give us a couple of extra days on our next stay, but as we like to visit different places, it's like a free ticket to a movie you've already seen. I believe that the rating would have been a 5 prior to the storm. Hope they are able to recover from this latest storm, soon.
Stayed here for a week in December and had a great time. Plenty of space for us ( family of four with 2 older kids) to spread out. Plenty of space indoora and out. Had a lot of fun looking at the fish swimming under the dock, you never knew what brightly colored marine life you would find. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We rented a car which seems mandatory for getting to the grocery store and to various points of interest around Freeport such as beaches, restaurants and the Fish Fry. Due to the recent hurricane the wi-fi wasn't yet working which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We spent a lot of time as a family playing pool, cards, reading and relaxing together.
My family had a great time staying at Haven Del Mar. The property owners went out of their way to get the house ready after Hurricane Matthew damage Grand Bahamas Island. Very comfortable home with modern amenities and we enjoyed playing pool!
My wife and I, one son, his wife and daughter, another son and his fiance all stayed at Haven del mar. We had a great time there. We used the house for entertaining and spending good times with our sons. The pool table was great! Everybody enjoyed the table. The furniture was comfortable. The fishing and swimming were great! I would recommend it to anyone.
When we first arrived, we had problems with the air conditioning and the wifi. Once we got those fixed, our stay was very comfortable! The canal was great for swimming, the house was relaxing after a long day at the beach, and the nights were peaceful. Everyone we interacted with was very helpful and enjoyable to speak with. We all had a great time at our beach stay!
I don't have the artistic ability to properly describe this home as it should be. The place is amazing. From the first moment you arrive, you know it's going to be great. I came by boat, followed the directions given by Jason-the owner. That's right, he calls and talks to you. This isn't a corporate owned home that nobody cares about...it's his personal property. We pulled up to the house on a canal with water so crystal clear, you can see 20' down as if it were 1'. The dock has a slip with plenty of room for my 27' Center console, and large enough for us to unload all of our stuff. There were six of us, so we had plenty of stuff. We knew we were going to have a good time because on the dock was also a hammock that overhangs the water, a diving board, and tons of pool and river toys. The back yard is big enough to play a decent game of football in, and a back porch with chairs and umbrellas big enough for our group and then some. It's the perfect view while relaxing having a cold drink.
Inside of the home is just that...a home. It's not a hotel, motel, or remodeled efficiency. This place is amazing!! The pictures on the listing are exactly as it was when we got there. All of the pool balls and sticks were there, the surround sound works throughout the house, TV works, beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need. Only advice for staying here, would be to bring your own food. It's difficult to find grocery stores if you haven't rented a car with a good map to local places. The WiFi at the house also works, but the Bahamas isn't like other countries where you can Google a place and a map shows you how to get there. Pretty sure Google has never been there. :)
When we weren't enjoying ourselves at the house, we took the boat to one of the MANY great fishing spots around the island. We didn't travel more than 45 min for great spear fishing. If you head due south from the house, the best game fishing around is here. When our trip was over, there were plenty of spots to fuel up close by. We went to Port Lucaya, at one of the resorts there for reasonably priced marine fuel, or you can choose to venture to West End. This is where we fueled and checked into customs when we first arrived.
I want to thank Jason for the great location, and being the great host he was. We will be doing this again shortly, and will no doubt have another great time. Thanks!!
