About this property

Private Home on Former Summer Camp w/Trout Pond, Fields & More

A housekeeper has been trained with cleaning prevention guidelines and practices. Guest will find a package including hand sanitizers and face masks that they can use during their stay.

This luxurious mountain cabin is nestled in a hardwood cove surrounded by a babbling brook, blooming rhododendron, and landscaped with native plants. The cabin is tastefully furnished with mission-style antiques, has a wood-burning, field stone fireplace, and all of the amenities of a home away from home. A wrap around porch with outdoor living room surrounds the cabin---perfect for outdoor relaxation by candlelight while listening to the beautiful sounds of nature and a babbling brook. A large grill and stereo speakers make the porch perfect for outdoor lounging and entertaining, and a native stone circle fire pit is located in the garden area just below the front of the home. Inside is a large great room with a cathedral ceiling with hardwood paneling, dining table for 6, fully equipped modern kitchen, 2 sofa beds, WiFi internet and satellite HDTV with premium movies and sports channels, and BluRay/DVD player. Originally a summer camp over fifty years ago, the property on which the home sits now is a private, family estate comprised of 66 mountainous acres with two ponds that are fed by 3 streams that originate on the property. There are two small fields at the top of the mountain that are perfect for playing games with the family and throwing balls to the dogs. Gravel roads and trails weave throughout the property for leisurely strolls, short hikes, and outright bush-whacking for the brave hearted! A great place to roam through the woods, play in the streams, and have some fun adventures with kids! Structural relics of the old summer camp still exist----old stone foundations from the cabins, a stone amphitheater in a mountain cove, outdoor fireplaces, etc. make for interesting exploration as you walk the property. The largest pond is over an acre and is stocked with Rainbow Trout. An outbuilding that serves as a workshop/garage with a large front porch deck overlooks the pond with a grill and patio furniture making the perfect space for relaxing while fishing for your evening meal. This is more than a rental home --- it's an adventure! The Master BR has a King-size bed and a bathroom with a full bathtub/shower (the home's other bathroom has a spacious shower with a Waterpik high-pressure showerhead with an extra long hose if your dog happens to need a shower too!). One of the two additional BRs has a Queen-sized bed, and the other bedroom has a King. The LR has two Queen-size sleeper sofa beds. Home is well-appointed and furnished: all you need are your toiletries and clothes! High quality bed linens and towels are provided as well as a surprisingly well-equipped kitchen (coffee maker is drip, by the way as most ask, and I provide filters). What guests usually say they like most about this home is the very large covered porch out front with fire pit just below. Note: If this home is booked, there is one other home on this same property that isn't within seeing or hearing range (a small mountain separates them). Both homes have similar amenities, but it is a 2BR/2BA. You can check its availability by searching for property number 565064.

Perfect
I stayed here with my pup for a long weekend and it was absolutely what I needed. The house is privately located and near a lot of trails that I like to hike. David is a complete pro. Very accommodating, very easy to deal with and very quick to respond to any and all questions. The house and property are just as beautiful as described and as seen in the pictures. I don’t know what else to say except that I cant wait to stay here again. Cheers!!

Just a bit about me. I live full-time in Atlanta but am a Western North Carolina native. As a child growing up in the area I loved spending time outdoors and some of my fondest memories were attending Gwynn Valley summer camp in Brevard and hiking in Pisgah Forest. I’ve owned the property where you’ll be staying for about 20 years and previously shared it with my mother and her husband, and now look forward to retiring there myself---hopefully sooner than later! My son,10, loves ‘adventures’ on the property and learning to fish, and I really enjoy gardening, hiking, and anything outdoors as I’m ‘trapped’ in the office in Atlanta most of the time! I’m an amateur botanist/naturalist (most people don’t like to hike with me because I stop to ‘look’ at things all the time!) and the mountains are my escape from city life. I’m counting the days until I return to my mountain home where I'm truly happiest. I'm honored to be the custodian of this beautiful property and share it with my family and friends, and my sincere intent is to have them love and appreciate it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

This property is unlike others as it's located on the footprint of a very old summer camp that has old native stone walls, beautiful old stone foundations from buildings like archeological sites, old roads weaving through the property now just trails for walks that go nowhere. Privacy and room to play is what the property offers. Firepits, picnic tables, an old stone amphitheater built into a mountain cove make things special for family gatherings. All of this 15 minutes from Brevard, 20 minutes from Pisgah Forest with the hiking, waterfalls, and unique mix of cultural offerings, such as the summer Brevard Music Festival and great restaurants, shopping, art and music in this small, mountain town is truly unique. My dream was to share the property with my family and friends, and guests, in hopes that they love and appreciate it as much as I do. The property is large and very private with only two homes. It offers plenty of room to explore and a perfect place for kids and dogs to play outdoors. It's close to town, less than an hour away from Asheville yet just down the road from Gorges State Park, rafting and canoeing, fly fishing and a stocked trout pond right on the property.

What makes this property unique

The property has plenty of room to play, lots of privacy, pet-friendy, and kids love it! There is a large, acre-sized pond stocked with local rainbow trout for fishing, two small mountaintop fields, multiple streams, and hiking trails for long walks. The home is luxurious and stocked with all that you'll need for your stay: kitchen is more thank equipped with utinsels, tools, bakeware, pots & pans, and small appliances, and the bedroom linens are high-end and comfortable. The home has a great fire pit as well as a wood burning stone fireplace inside. Firewood is provided. Just down the road is the Frozen Creek entrance to Gorges State Park which is very close to the property, approximately 1 mile, and offers mountain biking and hiking trails. The Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed approximately 12 miles away, and whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing on the French Broad River is a mere 1.5 miles away. Downtown Brevard is an easy 10 mile drive (or 15 minutes) away. When renting this 'home' you're truly getting much, much more.
