Brother and Sister purchased beach house together in 2004. Both families enjoy all that Slaughter Beach has to offer as a get-away from their homes in Maryland.
Lesley Giampietro purchased this house in 2004
Very quiet beach neighborhood, with its own general store, community playground with tennis and basketball. Your own sandy beach with beautiful sun rises. Still, close to entertainment (Dover Downs, Lewes, Rehoboth and Ocean City Beaches), history (Dover Air Force Museum) science (Dupont Nature Center) shopping (3 full outlet centers in Rehoboth with tax free buying).
Within 75 feet of the beach, very quiet, beautiful bay scenes during the day and wonderful night skies with views of Cape May Lighthouse at night.
Let me just say that this house did not reach my expectations. Before we even walked in, my husband placed a folding chair, very light, on one of the outside chairs and the arm just fell off. When we opened the door, we were greeted by an incredibly strong musty odor. We were also greeted by a fly infestation. It took us 4 days to get rid of them, having to go out and buy fly strips, which are disgusting, and continually use fly swatters. To give you an idea, there were at least 50 flies on one strip, and these were biting flies. Between the the smell and the flies, we spent very little time downstairs. The two grills outside were unusable. The gas grill was rusted, I guess because it had no cover, and the charcoal grill had stuff caked on it like it was used but never cleaned. We actually had to go to Walmart and buy a grill to use. The house could have been cleaner, especially the freezer. We knew we would have to bring sheets and pillowcases, however, the mattress protectors had round yellowish stains on them. We chose to sleep in the upstairs sitting room on the couches. The view is nice and the deck is nice but the deck had some boards sticking up that we did not see until we tripped on them. The other complaint I had was about the washer and dryer. We always look for houses that include these so we do not have to pack as much. The washer and dryer were old and encrusted, not clean. I had to take dirty clothes in my suitcase to wash at the next house. My family and I really look forward to vacation every year so to go through some of this stuff was very disappointing. I do not go on vacation to sleep on a couch. We had very high expectations because of the other reviews, however, we were happy to leave when the time came. Thankfully we planned for our second week at another house. I would not vacation here again.
Nice and fresh place to stay!
Kitchen well stocked with everything you need to cook and serve! Our family had an excellent time! We appreciate the customer service and really enjoy the area. Plenty to do rain or shine! We would highly recommend this to our friends and family!😊
This was our second year at this spacious waterfront beach house and again we had a great time. Just walk out the back door, across the dunes, and you're on the beach, which was wonderfully quiet and sparsely populated. Low tide goes out a long way and is great for exploring. High tide makes for great swimming close to the shore. The house is well designed for the extended family and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking and eating in. We spent the last evening on the beach watching the sun set and the full moon rise over the water. Wonderful!
House is very well equipped w many amenities of home. Very clean. Lots of space to spread out & have private spaces. Beautiful wrap around deck w long distance views.
Thermostat is locked. Downstairs did have a musky smell. Trash & recycling pick up is early (put it out the night before😀).
Overall, we had a great time. Enjoyed our stay. The owner Lesley, was great about answering all of my questions prior to our stay.
The house was wonderful. The photos don't do it justice! The kitchen had everything we could need, including two coffee pots, juicers etc. The place ed clean and very comfortable, one of the nicest houses on the bay yet! The beach here is a little more shallow and rocky than those just south. But it did not reduce our fun. Sushi the proximity to the refugee made the bid watching great!
This cold January day is a perfect time to schedule another family vacation at this wonderful beachfront home. Our extended family retreat here last year exceeded expectations. With ages ranging from 6 to 60, we all found plenty of room to play, hike, swim, cook, eat, read, sleep, and explore. Birding enthusiasts will find this a joy, with several sanctuaries nearby. Those among us who like to shop headed a short distance south to Lewes. A great place to enjoy a variety of activities on a family-centered vacation.
