About Renee Baker

I am an empty nester who enjoys the Brevard area with my husband who teaches at the local college. My favorites are waterfall exploring, hiking, horseback riding, camping, art, and interior design.

Renee Baker purchased this barn in 2012

Why Renee Baker chose North Carolina

We love the pastoral setting, but really fell in love with the unique barn-wood interior of this home. Interior design is one of my passions, so furnishing the home was super fun. They don't build them like this anymore. Living on the farm, we love the area and are happy to share it with our guests.

What makes this barn unique

A unique farm setting with friendly animals, fresh farm eggs, and all the amenities you may need! There are many resources for hiking, climbing, fishing, as well as shopping and dining in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fodderstock Farm is a true gem! There is so much warmth and hospitality coming to this beautiful place. Our family had a marvelous time relaxing throughout the week, playing in the back pasture, and seeing the local sites. The location affords all the nature wonderlust you could ask for in Appalachia. We hope to return for another great stay!

Great experience and location; amazing host!

  • 5 of 5

I visit west NC or east TN at least once a year, but this was my first time at Fodderstack. I was fortunate enough to have met Renee, her husband, and daughter (and their dog!) during my stay. They were all very sweet. As a hostess, Renee is awesome! She was very accommodating, easygoing, yet attentive. She gave our family a lot of privacy but was always available via text and never too far away should we have any questions. Seeing the horses running on the coldest day we were there was probably one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Rooster and Micah were very sweet, and Micah loves to lick just like a puppy - it's the funniest thing ever! :) We had some warm days, some cold days, some foggy days. We went to Pisgah Forest, a bit of downtown Asheville, and the Biltmore Estate. My favorite days were at the farm though! Of course, it's a renovated barn so there are some things you don't get that you would at a hotel, like a TV in every room, the internet was a bit slow, and one of the rooms had a super tiny shower. These are definitely not complaints though, just some of the things people tend to get used to when traveling. I wish I lived there! Renee, thanks again for sharing this beautiful barn and farm with us, we created a lot of wonderful memories and hope to be back soon!

A Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing in this area for over 12 years and this renovated barn tops the list. The attention to detail is superb. The ambiance created is warm, tasteful and beautiful!

We enjoyed eating the fresh laid eggs and our 12 year old enjoyed spotting and retrieving them from the coop. It was a delight to wake up each morning to the beautiful vista and the various animals grazing.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom and came with new soap, shampoos and other sundries. The pillows were great which always tops my list! There were plenty of blankets and throws to cozy up into.

Rocking chairs on the front porch. A hammock and a fire pit. Really what else could a girl ask for? Seeing a Pilated Woodpecker and two deer prance across the yard just added to the near perfection of the place.

We will definitely come back. To the owners: Thank you for sharing this piece of paradise with your guests! 💗

Wonderful relaxing farmhouse & mountains stay

  • 5 of 5

We really loved staying here! The farmhouse was immaculate, very cozy & had everything a family would need. It is just as nice as the pictures online, if not nicer. The mountains views & farm animals on the property were so great. We looked forward to seeing them everyday & petting them. We saw our first white squirrel on the property! Never have seen one before. Having fresh eggs every morning for breakfast was delicious. Wish I had some now! We had campfires & marshmallows at night & enjoyed sitting back relaxing & gazing at the zillions of stars. While the property is peaceful & quiet, it is still very close to Pigsah Forest & Dupont which have hiking trails, waterfalls, picnic areas & beautiful scenery. We also visited downtown Brevard & ate at Rocky's Grill & Soda Shop which was very good & kid friendly. Visited lots of the shops there. Also drove over to downtown Asheville for one afternoon. And also just as important was that Renee & her husband were very friendly & made sure we had everything we needed. Our stay was short, but we will have lasting fond memories and we will be back!

An amazing stay

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Fodderstack Farm! It's in a wonderful setting minutes from Downtown Brevard yet feels worlds away thanks to it's pastoral setting complete with sheep, horses, chickens, donkeys (very friendly, our faves!) and the Bakers' two dogs and two cats who supply their own brand of hospitality (don't worry if allergic, they come/go from the Bakers home and not the barn house). Speaking of hospitality, both Renee and Drew are terrific hosts and the type of people you want as best friends, we cannot wait to go back! the house was very clean, well taken care of and the extra touch of real farm fresh eggs provided on request is a nice perk! If you haven't visited the Brevard area before you'll find plenty to do with all kinds of outdoor activities, scenic drives, a vibrant downtown area in Brevard with great shops and restaurants, and don't miss "pottery row" on the south side of town with some beautiful and unique pottery (check out Duckpond Pottery and Mud Dabbers).

Fodderstack Farms was a great vacation retreat for the whole family.

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family enjoyed the stay at Fodderstack Farms. My wife loved petting the horses every morning. My son enjoyed checking the hen house for farm fresh eggs everyday. The property is beautiful. The hosts Renee and Drew were very gracious. There is a lot to do in downtown. The kids loved gem mining and OP Taylor's toy store. We also went on a white squirrel hunt on Brevard College's campus and got some great pictures.

Pisgah Forest National Forest: The Davidson River trail head is perhaps the most popular area for mountain bikers, hikers, rock climbers, fly fishers, and waterfall photographers. Pisgah's greatest back country and wilderness areas can be accessed from the area as well.

Dupont State Forest: Almost 100 miles of recreational trails traveling to several unique waterfalls, pristine lakes, and other attractions. Some trails pass over large expanses of solid rock on large granite domes. Nearly all trails are multi-use (biking, hiking, and equestrian) and they are well signed and well marked.
