In the North of Iceland, in Eyjafjördur, you can find the little and peaceful village, Grenivik with its beautiful mountain surrounds (about 30 min drive from Akureyri).
The house has a a fully equipped kitchen, living room, new bathroom and two bedrooms. The master bedroom has one double bed, and the other bedroom has two beds. It is also possible to add a small bed (A CRIB) or bunk bed.
The extraordinary landscape will inspire your hiking adventures and if you are interested in horse riding, the famous horse farm, Polar hestar is in the neighborhood. The Polar Hestar riding tours are from different length and suitable for experienced and less experienced riders.
We are five in our family. We live in Reykjavík but we grew up in Grenivík
Ragnheidur purchased this house in 2013
This is both winter and summer paradise
This peaceful village nurture our spirit and it always welcome you:)
We wanted to stay in a small village away from the main tourist locations and Grenivik is a gem. While it is a quiet location, it has all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay, and it offers easy access to Akureyri and all the attractions the North has to offer. Ragnheidur's home is really nice. There were four of us (two couples) and we stayed in three different locations during our vacation to Iceland. We all agree that Ragnheidur's home was our favorite rental, and Grenivik was our favorite place we visited in Iceland. Everyone in the town was so nice including the market owner and restaurant owner and staff.
The town pool was wonderful with a great view of the fjord. We were even able to see the whale's spray as they breathed in the distance. We booked a ride through the local ranch (Polar Hestar) and it was a wonderful experience. We even got to watch the local Grenivik football team win their game; go Magni!
The area is just plain beautiful! The town was just plain great. Ragnheidur was really helpful in providing information on all the amenities and attractions in the area. She was a pleasure to deal with. I really hope I get the opportunity to come back.
If you want to get away from being a tourist in Iceland, this is a wonderful rental. We spent a week here. Grenivik is an entirely self-contained community of about 200 people in a gorgeous location. It has everything you need - gas, bank services, well stocked grocery store, postal services, a tiny bar and restaurant, a heated community pool (or course), a medical centre, and the world's most beautifully located, and free, car wash. It is less than 30 minutes to the cruise ships in Akureyri but it is a world away. We took advantage of the hiking, riding and two very interesting local museums - Laufas and the Icelandic Outsider and Folk Art Museum and we used this as a base to explore the north.
The house itself is spotlessly clean and well equipped. Ragnheidur, our landlady, was always prompt and professional in her dealings with us.
The only problem with this rental for two older friends travelling together is that one bedroom is spacious with a very comfortable bed and the other bedroom is cramped and the two tiny beds are not comfortable for an adult. Also, the smaller bedroom does not have good curtains which was difficult in sunny late June.
Grenivik is a beautiful small town and the property was perfect for the four of us. Was updated very nicely and great views from the patio.
My Family and I stayed two nights at this special place and fell in love with it right from the beginning.
The apartment was fully equipped with everything you might need during your stay. Kitchen tools, towels, bed linens….. there was really nothing more to ask for. The selected decoration of the house is very sweet and really makes you feel like staying at a good friends’ house. Before we arrived the owner sent us a lot of useful information on the area and how to find her house, which was much appreciated.
Grenivik itself is a very peaceful little village, right at the water front. It is the perfect starting point for tours to Myvatn or Husavik. And if you don't feel like traveling around, you can always enjoy the private terrace, the local swimming pool or just go for a walk up to the mountains, where you have the best and most romantic sun sets in Iceland. It almost feels as if there was some magic in the air of Grenivik.....
Thanks to the owner and the lovely people we met at this place we will never forget about these holidays. We truly hope to come back one day and stay at this house again!
The house is amazing: very comfortable and specious (we were a family of 4), very clean, well equiped kitchen, nearby supermarket, one minute walk from a beautiful beach, and above all: very beautifully designed and decorated. My 15 year old daughter said she would like to have a house just like this when she "gorws up". Highly recommended.
