Home Sweet Home-Away-from-Home

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic find and Craig was extremely gracious and accommodating. He made sure we were settled in, gave us local tips and some of the local history, and was extremely responsive to any questions or concerns. We were here on a family holiday (11 of us, teen to adult) and the house offered plenty of room for everyone with a great selection of books, games (both indoor and out), and lots of space to relax.

We brought a canoe and rented a kayak and paddleboard (Liquid Dreams Surf Shop in Ogunquit) to tool around the Neddick River. Just be mindful that the water level rises & falls with the tide so need to plan accordingly - we got "stuck" once or twice and had to navigate through the empty river bed. Oops.

BUT, not a problem... just cross the bridge and you're at a small beach or walk into town to hit Short Sands beach and all the treats that York has to offer.

We were there the week of July 4th and this location let us be close enough to walk into town for the fireworks and festivities but was far enough away from the crowds that we were able to relax, unwind, and have some great, stress-free family time. That's what it's all about and Craig made this feel like home.

Hope you enjoy your time here as much as we did.

Thanks again, Craig, for a great vacation.

Perfect Family Spot!

  • 5 of 5

Our famly weekend at Tidewatch was spectacular! The house is spacious and very comfortable and the riverfront location is beautiful. Craig was very welcoming and helpful. From morning coffee on the dock to the bonfire at night, we had a blast. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

Overall, an average place in a lovely location.

  • 3 of 5

We found the house to be spacious and the proximity to town was great. The small, local beach was amazing and a favorite for young kids looking for crabs and shells. The back yard was also very welcoming and kids loved to fish off the dock.

Definitely good for a large group with 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Be aware the pull out couch is in the family room right next to the front door at the foot of the stairs, so not great if kids or light sleepers need to use it.

Having a washer and drier on site was a huge plus, especially since there are no extra linens or towels in case of accidents etc.

Some things not mentioned in the ad....the owner lives on the property in a small cottage just out the back door. The rooms on the lower floor of the rental do not have shades or closeable curtains, so anytime owner needed to walk through the yard to get to his space, he could be seen looking in the dining room windows, as well as any of his personal guests. A bit disconcerting when children are in the house. Privacy is not a guarantee.

The back yard also has 2 small cemeteries from past centuries. Kinda interesting for some, maybe not for all. One of them is close to the water with some of the ground sinking in, and it is not well partitioned off.

Overall, an average place in a lovely location.

Owner's Response: Katherine, I'm glad that you enjoyed the location of my home and sorry you found the location of the pull out couch to be less than ideal. It is meant to accommodate the occasional guest in a pinch. I'm also sorry you were unaware that I also live on the property. Most of my guests seem to be reassured by my presence and ability to address any questions or issues that may arise. The only other times it had been an issue are when guests are using my home inn an inappropriate manner or overcapacity. Had you been upfront about your intention to use my property for the large groups that were here on a daily basis and the seven or eight cars parked here constantly I would not have accepted your reservation. Thank you, Craig

Great family vacation - plenty of room for the whole gang!

  • 5 of 5

12 of us ranging in age from 1 to 70 enjoyed a week at Craig's in August. We had a great time - there was plenty of room for everyone, and the location of the house was perfect - within walking distance from York and Short Sands Beach, but far enough away to have a bit of privacy. We grilled, used the fire pit, and kayaked from the dock. We visited all three beaches (Long Sands was our fave) and, on our only rainy day, did a bit of shopping at Kittery. All of us had a fantastic time - Craig's house was great. We hope to be back soon!

Great location

  • 5 of 5

This was a great home and location for my family get-together. Easy walk to a lovely beach and to a fun York beach town. The home is comfortable for a big group. We brought kayaks that could be put in the river easily at high tide. We hope to return!,

Great place for a group!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Tidewatch. The location is fantastic (walkable to Wild Kingdom and Short Sands beach, and our new favorite, Cape Neddick beach). The backyard is lovely, and we spent hours outside playing and watching the tide. The house easily accommodated our group of 14 with plenty of room to spread out. We hope to come back again!
