Bucolic country setting with the feel of times past

  • 5 of 5

This peaceful historic property with farm fields and woodland walks was perfect for our family summer get together. It has 5 spacious bedrooms 5 bathrooms, a big dining room, living room, and kitchen with modern appliances. We gathered on the roomy front porch for morning coffee and evening appetizers and wine and casual suppers. In fact the porch was where we spent most of our time. The tart apples were ready for tasting in the small orchard behind the house. Deer and turkeys were close by in the fields.

The field surrounding the house was perfect for kicking around a soccer ball and throwing a frisbee. We toasted marshmallows around the fire pit and sang songs. The private access road made for a very safe play space for children. We walked the many paths carefully marked on a map by Jill and Cindy. The town of Alton and Alton Bay is 15 minutes away where there is swimming in Lake Winnepesaukee and a choice of dining options. We climbed Mount Major, a small peak in Alton, a vigorous 3-4 mile round trip with a clamber over boulders to the summit that is very popular with hikers. Closer to Wolfboro we hiked around Knight's Pond- a conservation area where we saw a great blue heron. Others in our party fished in Alton Bay.

We viewed the solar eclipse from charming Brewster beach in Wolfboro. All in all a lovely stay. A game table to set up our jigsaw puzzle was the only element lacking. That would be a great addition to the farmhouse. Thanks to Jill and Cindy for sharing their lovely property with us.

Perfect for a family weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at your home! The house was beautiful, with updated kitchen and bathrooms, but also keeping the charm of an old house. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean, and we loved walking around the property and exploring. The screened in gazebo was great too! We wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for helping make our stay so enjoyable!

Beautiful farm for an outdoor rustic wedding!

  • 5 of 5

House was extremely comfortable for such an old home. Beautifully updated and restored.

Grounds were perfect for a dyi rustic wedding. Cindy and Jill were generous in sharing their farm property and time. Even though Mother Nature didn't cooperate and we had horrible weather and lost power off and on during the wedding and after, we would choose to do it all again if we could.

Would have been perfect if dogs were allowed! 😉

Wonderfully peaceful, a first rate rental

  • 5 of 5

My family and in-laws spent New Year's weekend at the Stoney Ridge Farm and I can't say enough good things about it.

The property itself is huge and we took walk after walk in the surrounding woods, which had picturesque mountains in the background, clear paths, beautiful fields, and absolute privacy.

With that said, I found the farmhouse to be the real star. A lovely redone kitchen (not huge but great with new appliances), a fantastic dining room with plenty of space, and two good sized living room/den type rooms. The wood stove and fireplaces kept everyone warm and cozy and we found a stock of firewood when we arrived.

The bedrooms were delightful. Five in all, each had a slightly different style and were much larger than I expected (with only one being a bit more moderate in size). The bathrooms seemed recently redone and the fixtures were very high quality.

All in all, the farmhouse and property was a wonderfully relaxing and quiet experience. I can't recommend this rental more and for those who need a special place for a getaway or event. I've traveled a bit and can confidently say you won't go wrong at the Stoney Ridge Farm. If you're looking for the feeling of getting away 'from it all' but with all the comforts you’d hope for, I strongly suggest you consider this rental.

Perfect fall wedding

  • 5 of 5

I cannot describe the beauty of this 19th century estate home! I'll start from the beginning!

I live in California but most of my (extensive) family lives in New England so it made sense to have my wedding there. We wanted a farmhouse (check) with a lot of land (check), where we could have our dream wedding (CHECK). The owners, Jill and Cindy, were so easy to get in touch with and so welcoming.

The best part about having our wedding here is that it was not a "wedding venue" so they didn't control any part of it, aside from basic rules (like no wedding guests allowed in the house, which is totally understandable).

As for the house itself, it was one of the most beautifully old houses I've had the pleasure of staying in. Each room has a different decorative theme of sorts, and all bedrooms except one have a three-piece bathroom. This was very handy when my family and wedding party were all staying under the same roof!

Sometime in the future, I am absolutely going to come back here with my family for a relaxing weekend away!
