If you want to tour DC by bicycle there is a rental station 1/2 block from this vacation rental, which is only 3 blocks from the US Capitol and the beginning of the National Mall.

The Flat at Library Court is a rowhouse in the historic district with a completely renovated interior and all new furnishings decorated with Washington D.C. flair. You’ll enjoy expansive views of the stately Library of Congress,.. which is directly across the street. The house backs to Library Court, a 300 year old historic cobblestone street built in the days of horse-drawn buggies.

Why you can’t beat our location: Capitol Hill is a historic residential neighborhood that stretches from the U.S. Capitol, and Pennsylvania Ave, the main corridor, emanates from the Capitol beginning at 2nd Street. We are one block away on 3rd St – the first residential block from the Capitol. The further you get (4th Street, 5th, 6th and so on), the less desirable and less safe the areas become, and the longer your walk to the sites. This is truly as good and as close as it gets! Don’t talk yourself into staying blocks away…

• 1 Block or Less: U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress (across the street), Folger (Shakespeare) Theatre

• Within 2 to 3 blocks: U.S. Capitol, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Mall, U.S. Botanical Garden, South Capital Metro station.

• Tour Bus: The Circulator Tour Bus picks up one block away but most of what you’ll want to see is within a short walk.

• Dining 1 Block or Less: We the Pizza; Good Stuff Eatery (President Obama’s favorite hamburger), Cosi (sandwiches, soups and salads), Starbucks, Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hunan Dynasty, Hawk N Dove; Capitol Hill Liquor and Deli

• Stores 1-2 Blocks: Corner Market Grocery Store, Grubb’s Care Pharmacy, Gandel’s Liquor, Riverby Books.

The Courtyard Apartment

The Courtyard Apartment of the Flat at Library Court is a two story unit with 3 bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms, a private courtyard and expansive views of the stately Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully stocked and the unit has wi-fi, cable TV and central air conditioning/heat.

• Main Level: On the main level, you’ll find an expansive kitchen/great room with views of the Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a breakfast bar and large dining table and it opens to the living room with a sleeper sofa and flat screen TV. Behind the great room is a half bathroom, washer and drier, and a master suite with a king size bed and full bathroom, including a tub. The hallway provides access to the private courtyard for relaxation after a busy day of touring the Capitol and quiet al fresco dining; it backs to the historic cobblestone court.

• Lower Level: On the lower level, there are two bedrooms and two full bathrooms: one bedroom has a queen size bed and its own bathroom and the third bedroom has bunk beds single/over double.

DESCRIPTION OF NEIGHBORHOOD:

Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.

As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, and Congressional Cemetery.

The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. Bob is a retired District Judge from Nebraska and Kaye is retired from Nebraska Public Power District. They are the parents of James Finn who, along with his wife, are the owners of this Capitol Hill Vacation Rental.

This property served as a parsonage for many years until it was sold in 2012. The house is being completely renovated.

Spacious, comfortable and convenient

This apartment is spacious and very comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked and easy to use. Location is good, easy walk to the Capitol. Also convenient to the Metro which is easy to navigate and allows good access to all parts of Washington. Only downside is lack of a decent supermarket in walking distance if you don't have a car. Small convenience stores close by but not ideal for a stay of more than a few days.

Great flat, amenities and amazing location

Bob was very responsive from the very beginning. He provided tips and suggestions for first-time DC visitors and was very accommodating. The house is amazing with three bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths and a large dining table for ten!! The location is incredible. 10 minute walk to the Capitol.

A great place. Will definitely visit again!!

Excellent, well located accommodation for a Washington, DC visit!

This comfortable, pristine home was perfect for our family's visit to Washington, DC. The home facilitated our sharing time together in a lovely setting after the burial of my parents at Arlington National Cemetery.

The owners were incredibly kind and responded promptly to all our questions.

The home is impeccable and well stocked. (Even coffee is available)

The location is ideal. One is able to walk to many DC landmarks. Just three blocks from the metro station Capitol South, one has prompt, easy access to many sites and the airport.

My family and I are grateful to the owners for sharing this home with us. We hope to return here each time we visit Washington, DC.

Perfect place for sight-seeing

My husband and I stayed here for a long sight-seeing weekend with our 4 kids (ages 9-12). The location was fantastic with several great restaurants (We, the Pizza and Good Stuff Eatery) and Starbucks 1/2 block away. The place was very clean and well furnished. We all slept great so either the beds were comfy or we were just exhausted from sight-seeing. Manager was very responsive to all my emails or calls and was very accommodating with our luggage since we had a late flight. We took an uber most places but you can definitely walk to the Capitol and surrounding areas...we were often short on time or had tired kids. Our last day we walked home from the Natural History Museum and it was a really great walk, down the mall and past Capitol building. I highly recommend this place.

Clean, comfortable, good location for families.

Our family of three adults and one child stayed here for 5 days. We are used to staying in very deluxe hotels, so wanted an upscale townhouse to share with our family. I would say this was more than adequate, but visitors should be aware of a few issues. One which could be easily improved is the lack of mirrors. The bathrooms are extremely tiny, and the only mirrors in the whole house are the bathroom mirrors above the sinks. A full length mirror in each bedroom would allow more than one person to dress at the same time!

It's been mentioned before that the noise from the upper apartment is a problem. Every footstep echoes in the master bedroom from the unit above - one morning at 5:00 AM! Maybe some rugs would help.

The king bed in the master is very comfortable, but the queen and bunks were described as lumpy. I personally didn't check them out. It was ok for our family, but if couples are traveling together, be aware the two bedrooms downstairs are very small and not really "equal" to the master.

The location is nice, and we took UBER everywhere with no problem. Many main sights and monuments are still a bit far to be considered within walking distance.

We checked in with no problems, and found the unit clean and ready when we arrived from California.

For an extended stay in DC with family, this was well appointed and with a few improvements could be a very comfortable base.

A pleasant time in Capitol Hill

Housed 3 artists in this rental while they rehearsed for a weekend performance. Home was comfortable and spacious enough for all of the guests. The owner event allowed them to rehearse in the space. It made my job easier and the musicians enjoyed living and working there. I would definitely rent this home again in the future.
