If you want to tour DC by bicycle there is a rental station 1/2 block from this vacation rental, which is only 3 blocks from the US Capitol and the beginning of the National Mall.

The Flat at Library Court is a rowhouse in the historic district with a completely renovated interior and all new furnishings decorated with Washington D.C. flair. You’ll enjoy expansive views of the stately Library of Congress,.. which is directly across the street. The house backs to Library Court, a 300 year old historic cobblestone street built in the days of horse-drawn buggies.

Why you can’t beat our location: Capitol Hill is a historic residential neighborhood that stretches from the U.S. Capitol, and Pennsylvania Ave, the main corridor, emanates from the Capitol beginning at 2nd Street. We are one block away on 3rd St – the first residential block from the Capitol. The further you get (4th Street, 5th, 6th and so on), the less desirable and less safe the areas become, and the longer your walk to the sites. This is truly as good and as close as it gets! Don’t talk yourself into staying blocks away…

• 1 Block or Less: U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress (across the street), Folger (Shakespeare) Theatre

• Within 2 to 3 blocks: U.S. Capitol, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Mall, U.S. Botanical Garden, South Capital Metro station.

• Tour Bus: The Circulator Tour Bus picks up one block away but most of what you’ll want to see is within a short walk.

• Dining 1 Block or Less: We the Pizza; Good Stuff Eatery (President Obama’s favorite hamburger), Cosi (sandwiches, soups and salads), Starbucks, Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hunan Dynasty, Hawk N Dove; Capitol Hill Liquor and Deli

• Stores 1-2 Blocks: Corner Market Grocery Store, Grubb’s Care Pharmacy, Gandel’s Liquor, Riverby Books.

The Courtyard Apartment

The Courtyard Apartment of the Flat at Library Court is a two story unit with 3 bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms, a private courtyard and expansive views of the stately Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully stocked and the unit has wi-fi, cable TV and central air conditioning/heat.

• Main Level: On the main level, you’ll find an expansive kitchen/great room with views of the Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a breakfast bar and large dining table and it opens to the living room with a sleeper sofa and flat screen TV. Behind the great room is a half bathroom, washer and drier, and a master suite with a king size bed and full bathroom, including a tub. The hallway provides access to the private courtyard for relaxation after a busy day of touring the Capitol and quiet al fresco dining; it backs to the historic cobblestone court.

• Lower Level: On the lower level, there are two bedrooms and two full bathrooms: one bedroom has a queen size bed and its own bathroom and the third bedroom has bunk beds single/over double.

DESCRIPTION OF NEIGHBORHOOD:

Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.

As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, and Congressional Cemetery.

The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. I find that it is some times easier to communicate in a phone conversation then it is by email. We want to make sure there is no misunderstanding about the location of our rentals and it amenities. Parking is limited in DC so if you are driving to DC you might want to talk with Bob about some parking solutions.

Bob is a retired District Judge from Nebraska and Kaye is retired from Nebraska Public Power District. They are the parents of James Finn who, along with his wife, are the owners of this Capitol Hill Vacation Rental.

This property served as a parsonage for many years until it was sold in 2012. The house is being completely renovated.

Perfect for our 2 week stay in DC

Mr Finn was wonderful and even went above board to get a great crockpot for our kitchen needs. The only problem we had was the washing machine which was ALWAYS out of balance no matter the load size. It continuously moved across the floor even over to the laundry door and we had to push it back to keep the drain hose from coming out of the drain pipe. The noise it made was pretty bad. Thank goodness we we're on the main floor. The living space and the fact that there was a bathroom for each bedroom made for a great home away from home stay. Close proximity to nearly everything and transit systems a big plus. We will definitely stay here again when we visit DC again

Great location!

This location is just terrific! We walked almost everywhere we went! It is right near fun restaurants, and within a stone's throw of Folger Shakespeare Library which we thoroughly enjoyed and which I didn't even know was there. We visited the Supreme Court--also quite nearby, and then everything the Mall has to offer. As for the apartment, the front room pictured here is lovely. The basement less so--functional, but a bit cramped--totally fine, but perhaps better to know that going in. Nice to have washer and dryer, nice kitchen and such, and the sofa bed in the living room is actually quite comfortable. (Note to owner--the air mattress seems to have a leak so perhaps should be replaced.) Plenty of hot water, nice appliances. Know that the "courtyard" out back is not so nice--not a problem, but again, better to know going in. We sat out on the front stoop instead. And be sure to line up parking--there are lots around there, some closer than Union Station and less expensive, and we were a bit disappointed to have read in the original write-up of the property that there was a parking pass provided, only to find out later that that was no longer true. Again, would have been better to know ahead of time--it added an expense we were not budgeting for onto our trip. Regardless, the location alone makes this a place worth considering. While we would not stay here again at this point, I also know that we might end up regretting that decision.

Always a Pleasure

This is the third time we have stayed in this VRBO. It is a great location, especially if you are walking The Hill to advocate for legislation. Many things are within walking distance. You can have a different genre of food everyday.

Great 2 story brownstone close to the Capitol and good restaurants. Uber rides are easy and inexpensive from this location just about anywhere . Nice amenities. Internet works well, large dining room table to work from. Quiet neighborhood.

Great Property

This is an excellent property. Very clean, comfortable beds and plenty of room for me and my husband, 2 kids and my parents. Nice to have some good restaurants just down the road ( we the pizza was very good). We were able to pick up the metro a few blocks away. Plenty of towels, toilet paper, and lots of extra pillows and blankets. Only 1 small skillet in the kitchen would be my only criticism - a little difficult to cook morning pancakes. We made do, however. Small bottles of shampoo and hotel soaps are provided and we had plenty for the week, but bring conditioner if you need it. We were able to order Amazon fresh right to the front door and had breakfast and snacks easily available for the week. There is a little grocery down the street just a 1/2 block or so for those little extras. (Also a bakery and tasty burger joint). Overall an excellent experience and very responsive manager. We would definitely stay here again.
