The Flat is located above the fun French bistro, Foufou, in the heart of Traverse City, making it a fantastic home base for any of the fun festivals that happen throughout the year. A parking spot is provided in the lot across the street (a coup in the city!).
There are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king sized bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds. There is a living area with a TV (dvd player), a dining area, which we have set for 4, but the table can extend to seat 12. The kitchen has a four burner electric stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. There is a coffee pot and a pantry stocked with the basics. The bathroom has a shower/bath and a full sized washer and dryer.
The apartment is clean, comfortable and an easy place to be. Dogs are welcome. We call this a loft because the bedroom walls to not reach to the (exposed) ceilings, so you can hear everything.
The apartment is accessed via the alley, in a separate entrance from the restaurant. It is private, well lit and secure. Guests find the space to be bigger than they expected. It is well furnished, yet sparse, which I think creates a sense of calm.
We are Brooke & Guillaume Hazael-Massieux. We moved to Leelanau county in 2006 when we bought La Becasse, a French country restaurant in Burdickville. Like many before us, we fell for the region hard and fast! In 2012 we opened Bistro Foufou in Traverse City and at the same time leased the charming apartment above the restaurant.

The Flat, as we have taken to calling the space, is a fun loft apartment with an urban feel. It provides an excellent home base for Traverse City fun. We stayed here with our kids and puppy for a weekend last winter, and enjoyed being so close to everything. The entry is private, and the apartment is spacious. I can see also using the flat to host a small group if you are in town for a wedding. A parking space is included, which is a huge boon if you are driving. And, of course we are biased, but we think it would be fun to stay so close to a fun French bistro and would take advantage of eating in the restaurant or hanging out at the bar, and some nights simply getting food to go and enjoying the great apartment.
The apartment is easy to access, it's got great natural light, has the basics covered and is a fun way to vacation.
Great space. Beautiful. Perfect for our family of three. Owners were great to work with. Had a terrific meal at Bistro Foufou!
To start off we have to say the owners are wonderful and worked with us on some issues we had with our original stay. We were greatly appreciative of them and all that they could do.
This place was so cute and in a great location. Easy walking to shops and restaurants. Bathroom and Kitchen were very clean and the beds were comfortable. We were allowed to check in about a half hour early without issue. It was rather difficult to find the parking but after speaking to someone at the restaurant we were guided in. While we did know that it was a loft, we didn't realize it was off of an alley and it would be somewhat loud. We made due with it tho and it wasn't anything that the white noise app on my phone couldn't cover up. We did plan to stay in and cook as much as possible considering there was a full kitchen. I have to say that the cookware does need to be replaced. The teflon on the pans was scraped down to the metal and flaking off on two of the bigger pans. Again, we made due with what we had but we did have to buy some tin baking sheets to cook on. There were no paper towels or washcloths to wash dishes besides some used, dirty, and dried up sponges under the sink that I didn't feel comfortable to use.
Overall, we were happy with our stay and aside from the cookware, would definitely stay again!
Recently spent two weeks at the flat above Bistro Fou Fou. This was a repeat visit for us. As always flat was very clean and adequately equipped. The location is what keeps us coming back along with the parking space that is included. The aromas that drift up from the kitchen of Fou Fou are an added bonus! Hope to return.
Great place! Great location and better than a hotel.
The loft was fantastic. Everything was very clean . The location was perfect with it being right in the heart of downtown Traverse City. We could walk anywhere we wanted to go. Even with.the restaurant right below us there was no noise from the restaurant. The loft was very spacious and it had everything we needed. We can't wait to come back again!
We had a wonderful week in this loft apartment! The location is perfect, the apartment is comfortable, cozy, and well appointed, and the included parking spot is super convenient. We especially loved that we were able to bring our dog, who quickly settled in and treated the place like home. As others have noted, there is some noise from the alley, but we are early risers and weren't bothered by this at all. Brooke was wonderful and responsive whenever we had questions and made sure our stay was terrific. We definitely look forward to coming back and staying again!
Our apartment is located in downtown Traverse City, giving travelers the convenience of easy access to restaurants, movies (The State Theater!), shops, churches, banks, and grocery stores. And, this being Traverse City, the beach is a stone's throw away, easily accessed by foot or bike. Winery tours of Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau County make for amazing day trips. The Traverse City Film Festival is an incredible event, for which this apartment is ideally situated. The Cherry Fest is a super family event that happens right outside the door.
There are nearby parks with playgrounds for kids. A short drive takes you to casinos, golf courses, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. And water! You can enjoy miles of beaches and with that many water-based activities.
Traverse City is delightful year round. It is a fabulous home base for fall color tours, as well as winter skiing. February is fun with the comedy fest and the beer & music festival. The nearby City Opera House has an amazing performance line-up year round, and you may be able to catch one of the National Writer Series conversations. In short, Traverse City has much to offer, and having a downtown home base puts you in the center of it.
