Overview

Photos and Description of this Itilo holiday castle

2 Bedroom, 1.5 Bathroom (Sleeps 8)

An authentic, fully furnished, recently renovated castle with great views

Around 2 centuries ago, our grandparents decided to build a castle for their winter stays and to protect themselves from enemies, from the war. On the ground floor you can find the olive press that the residents had in order to make their olive oil.

Now and years later the stone house is ready to invite you in and enjoy a great holiday. The renovation took into consideration the traditional character of the castle keeping it unspoiled, while adding some modern touches. The materials used are mainly the local stone and wood. The castle is fully equipped with electrical appliances.

There are two bedrooms. In addition to 1 double and 4 single beds in these bedrooms, 2 more sofa beds are provided in the living room for comfortable sleep.

It is a great place to start from in order to explore the unique beauties of authentic Greece all around the year Appropriate both in the cool and cozy Greek winter till the hot summer.

There is not actually a better period to visit, since every session has something unique to provide.

Staying in a castle like this will definitely make you feel like living centuries ago. You are given the opportunity to spend time traveling around Peloponnese, from the famous Sparta, land of Leonidas and the brave 300, to cape Matapa, where the gates of Ades were supposed to be.

Also, you are able to travel around the coasts of Peloponnese and enjoy the famous Greek sun and sky on beaches like Gerolimenas. Gerolimenas is, also, a great place to taste traditional Greek food and maybe have a drink before you come back to the castle and relax with a glass of wine next to the fireplace.

Come to us to explore the unspoiled nature of Greece and relax, swim, cycle, breath some fresh air or do some shopping around the south of Greece!

Children under 8 stay for free!

Close to the property is a historical church, basketball ground and a small playground, all within walking distance.

We can give you any advice concerning your sightseeing or anything you may need. Please, do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

About Marios Petrongonas

I am Marios. I live in the southern outskirts of Athens, but I am very proud to come from Mani.

I study my diploma in Architecture in Athens. I love sports (football, cycling, barefoot running,...), especially watersports (sailing, wind surf)

I am a lot interested in Art and Architecture, but my true love is traveling around the world. I am very happy to have traveled in many places worldwide.

Dream destinations: Easter islands, tour of Britain

Best destination so far: Garda Lake, Shanghai

Marios Petrongonas purchased this castle in 1837

Why Marios Petrongonas chose Lakonia

Mani in Lakonia is a very special and historic part of Peloponnese, well known for its variety of beauties. It is a magical destination all year around. Our property is in a crucial spot, not far from the most beautiful places in Southern Peloponnese.

-SUMMER : HOT! Pick the beach you are going to swim and sunbathe today. Before coming back home at noon, have some fresh fish next to the coast line.Try water sports. Travel along the coast of Cape Matapan and enjoy each single one of the unique beaches

-AUTUMN : Warm climate.Maybe Hot until November... Wake up in the morning and have a cup of coffee in the terrace. Walk in the olives grooves, which are full of bloom and discover the unique beauties they offer. Go hunting. Collect your own Greek olives from our fields. Probably, even go swimming. Visit the villages around, some of which are ruined, of special beauty.

-WINTER : Cool and cozy climate. if you are brave, you dive in the crystal clear Mediterranean water. Special experience. Travel around Peloponnese and go back home for a glass of wine in front of the fireplace. Relax in our open terrace and gaze at stars from sunset til dawn.

-SPRING : Warm climate.Hot after April. Enjoy the nature, full of different colors. Try the Eater period, special time for all the Greeks with our fodd related traditions. Go swimming, trekking, cycling and go sightseeing.

What makes this castle unique

We dare you not fall in love with the special character of our Castle.

Very close to the coast with all the fantastic beaches, yet in the middle of the olive grooves which compose a very relaxing picture.

The terrace gives you a great view to the nature.

We can open the old basement for you to watch the old olive press.

Traditional, homey, quiet

  • 5 of 5

Listing is accurate, property was immaculately clean and well maintained, owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We recommend this property to parties who want the feel of home in the unspoiled Mani which has surprisingly few foreign tourists. We enjoyed great views and secluded beaches, a different one every day, some easily accessible, all very rewarding. Great place!

beautiful and very mantained

  • 4 of 5

The castle is very beautiful, we found it utterly clean, very furnished with anything we might need to cook. The bed are very sustained, which for greece is kind of exceptional. The landlords, mario's parents, are two exquisite and generous people. When we arrived they welcomed us with a huge dish of fresh fruits, cold water and juice.

The only downside are the insects, in order to keep them far the terrace's door must be kept close so it has been a bit difficult to enjoy the outside, given that we had with us two little girls. The countryside is beautiful and we found the best beaches. Among these we would like to advice porto kajo, same direction as marmari, near the top of the second finger. half hour away is extremely beautiful and suitable for children.
