About Susan Deichsel

Back to year purchased: It was newly built in 2008 as a secondary structure behind our home in the Old Town/ Downtown neighborhood of Albuquerque and was therefore built to be exactly what it is. It was envisioned to be the kind of elegant, comfortable, private, and friendly place it is. And, we aren't just pet friendly, we love pets! We think of our cottage as a budget friendly, special accommodation for those who do not like the hustle of hotel travel.

Dick and Susan live in the house in front (that's us) and try to give our guests enough personal attention to feel attended to, and enough space and privacy to feel as if they are truly away from their every day lives in a special place in the quirky and historic center of the gorgeous Southwest, Albuquerque.

Susan Deichsel purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Susan Deichsel chose Downtown

We actually purchased the house in 2006 to use it as a short-term rental, but we were so quickly insinuated into the fabric of this very special community that we decided to stay on, but to still have a short-term rental by building one to order, and had fortunately purchased in a neighborhood whose zoning allowed such things.

We wanted it to be optionally walkable and bike-able to many of the neighborhood attractions and to also be near the historic center of the city, so that it wouldn't just feel as if it was just a suburb, that could be anywhere. . It is therefore not large, as is the case in central city locations, but has just the right mix of both interior features to enjoy and hassle free attractions to avail oneselves of. You will feel right at home in La Casita Rosada, with owners who treat it like a business but also offer the 'high-touch' usually found at special resort properties.

Fantastic stay for Balloon Festival.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for five nights in this lovely studio. It is well located just a short distance from old town shops, museums, the Bio park and the Bosque bike trial in one direction and downtown in the opposing direction. We were staying for the Balloon Fiesta which is approximately 15 to 20 minutes away. It is a private comfortable bungalow in a mellow quiet neighborhood. It comes with everything you could need for either a short or extended stay. The owners are active citizens of the City of Albuquerque, offered great advice, a warm reception and hospitality.

We spent a great deal of time at the Balloon Park and had the good fortune to go up in a balloon with Rainbow Riders on a mass ascension day with hundreds of other balloons. We typically awoke at 4am and made our way up Rio Grande Blvd to the balloon park to avoid traffic. On the last day of our stay we slept in and explored the shops in old town and took a long bike ride down the Paseo Del Bosque bike trail stopping at the zoo for an excursion. There are restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance of the property. We would not hesitate to book this room again in the future and would recommend staying here to our friends and relatives.

A Perfect find!

  • 5 of 5

La Casita Rosada, with it's hosts Susan and Dick, is a perfect find in Albuquerque. Very walkable area to Old Town, several of our favorite restaurants Duran's and Vegetarian and Lowe's market a few blocks away when you feel like staying in. The Casita is quiet and peaceful and Susan adds the extra touches, a bed you just melt into, patio area with grill, a nice little table for 2 near a water feature should you want to enjoy a nice evening, the perfect essentials in the kitchen....all in all a wonderful gem to just relax . Thank you so much Susan and Dick

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, Susan. We have worked very hard to make our little vacation rental- La Casita Rosada, comfortable, luxurious, well-equipped, and welcoming. We even iron the top sheets and pillow cases because we want to offer, whether or guests consciously notice it or not, a Euro-style experience. Our linens-those on the bed and bathroom-have been seriously budgeted items, and are analyzed carefully for level of luxury, value and usefulness. It is so nice when someone notices these thing. I really appreciate your kind review.

Very private and accommodations luxurious.

  • 5 of 5

This was the second year straight that I stayed in this lovely casita. It is just behind the owners' home which made me, a woman and a small dog, feel very comfortable and safe. The accommodations were perfect. A very comfortable bed, high-tech tv, kitchen, kitchen table and chairs, study area and a large bathroom. I was even provided with coffee, tea, fresh water, sugar and most condiments. It was just a few blocks from OLd Town and Albuquerque's museums and downtown. The windows were plentiful and there was a lovely view of the Sandias. The perfect place to stay for myself and my dog for three months.

Wonderful time. Nice nice people. Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Susan and Dick were the best hosts anyone could ask for. The studio is separate from the house and a perfect location in the City. Apartment is stocked with everything you could need, including your privacy. Lots of room for my 2 dogs to have their space outside. Bed extremely comfortable and a good nights sleep. Restaurants are walking distance as well as Lowes Grocery Store and Old Town. Will definitely stay here when passing through Albuquerque. Thanks so much!

Perfect walking location in town

  • 5 of 5

This casita is in a perfect location! During our stay, we walked each day to many attractions in Alburbuque. Farmers markets, old town, downtown and the railyard. It is also easy to get onto the major roads in the area. The property is exactly as pictured and very clean. Susan and Dick were perfect hosts. We especially enjoyed the welcoming committee, (cat and dog), very friendly! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again myself!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind words. We have worked very hard over the years, beginning with the actual design of the suite. We had it "purpose-built" from the ground up in 2008, and hope we didn't miss anything. We even Iron the sheets and pillow cases. We have no idea if our guests ever notice such details, but hope nonetheless, that those items add to a nice experience while they are in residence.
