Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 futons (living room and sunroom), sleeps 6, 1 bath, full kitchen

Our cabin (a.k.a. camp) has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4 comfortably. However, with the use of two full size futons, there is plenty of sleeping space for a family of 6. It's perfect for families wanting to spend time together or couples looking for a romantic getaway. The open floor plan (living room and kitchen) creates a cozy atmosphere with a separate sun room if you need a little extra space. The sun room is perfect for settling down with your favorite book, your morning coffee, or an afternoon nap. On cool nights, a wood stove in the living room provides plenty of warmth and adds to the already cozy atmosphere.

The cabin has a small but well stocked kitchen, bedrooms on opposite ends of the cabin (one BR with a queen size bed and the other with a full size bed) and a lovely deck with Adirondack style chairs perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or tea. A gas grill is also available for cooking up your own culinary specialties or comfort foods like burgers and dogs. The cabin's open lot provides a space to play and an inviting fire pit.

This cabin is located on quiet Harford's Point with Moosehead Lake access only 100 yards away. Enjoy a day of swimming and relaxing at the private beach and an evening of grilling and sitting by the fire. Trails suitable for beginners up to expert hikers are within a short drive. Of course, the roads on Harford's Point are also an excellent place to walk and ride bikes! There is a 9-hole golf course at the lake, 2 miles away from the cabin. The town of Greenville is a short drive away and offers restaurants, museums, grocery stores, a library, and many gift and/or outdoor shops. Kayaks, canoes and bikes are available for rent in town. You can sign up for moose safari tours and scenic plane rides. Take a scenic tour of the lake on the Katahdin, a steamboat (now converted to diesel) in use on the lake since 1936.

The cabin has no cable, telephone or internet service. Perfect for those who want to 'unplug' while on vacation! Cell phone service around the lake is very reliable. There is a small TV/VHS/DVD combination with family/kid friendly videos available. Spend an evening of laughter and fun with the wide selection of board games and cards, too! HOWEVER, if you must tear yourself away from the peace and quiet of the cabin, the library in town offers daily use of their internet service.

Bed linens and towels are provided.

About Marion McManus

We are a couple from Virginia who have been vacationing at Moosehead Lake since 1989. One of us is a Pennsylvania native while the other is a Tennessean. We both graduated from the University of Tennessee and landed in Virginia after getting married.

Marion McManus purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Marion McManus chose Moosehead Lake

We have been vacationing at Moosehead Lake since 1989, when we were a young couple and were invited up by a good friend who is a Greenville native. Many years and four children later, we are thankful to say that our four children have spent part of every summer of their lives swimming, boating, hiking and relaxing at the lake. Each summer we would dream about buying a place of our own in this beautiful place. In fact, we drove past this property every year on our way to the cabin where we would stay. We were so excited when the opportunity to buy it came up and we became homeowners in 2010. We hope to pass this home down so that our children, grandchildren and maybe even great-grandchildren can enjoy it also. We LOVE Moosehead Lake, Greenville and the surrounding area and want others to be able to enjoy it, too!

What makes this cabin unique

We just love this cabin! It feels cozy, like a cabin in the woods should feel. In Maine, the cabins are called camps...the first time we walked in, we thought, 'Yes! This is how a camp should feel!' The sunroom is bright and welcoming. The old dutch door between the living room and front bedroom lends more charm to an already comfortable, charming, wood-stove equipped, high-ceilinged room. When we are at camp, we spend every morning on the newly re-constructed deck, starting the day quietly and peacefully.

Cozy cabin.

  • 5 of 5

Cozy cabin, peaceful location, close to Greenville. Plenty to do, at least when it's good weather. We went on Moose safari and were lucky to see two moose! Nice hikes around with magnificent views over the lake and the hills/mountains nearby.

The cabin has all you need, we stayed with four people for 4 nights.

Cozy and convenient

Great little cabin with plenty of room for my wife, son, two dogs, and myself. One minute walk to Moosehead Lake. Cabin outfitted with pretty much everything but food and personal toiletries. We would stay here again!

A Great Getaway Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed a few nights at the cabin while up in Maine for a baby shower. Every year when we lived there we always went camping at Lily Bay State Park. This year we stayed at the cabin and it was a wonderful stay. Marion was attentive to questions answered and the cabin was clean upon arrival. We had a great time and it was nice being back to Moosehead. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed and we even played some of the games. Thank you so much for sharing this place to stay with us!

Clean & cozy

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much Bill & Amy for sharing your adorable cabin with my family for Memorial Day weekend '17! Marion, the property manager, was attentive and helpful for all our needs. We came up here for white water rafting on the Kennebec (one hour drive away) and this location was wonderful. We are already planning a large family vacation at Moosehead for next summer. Wish we could give you guys 10 stars!

comfortable, quiet and cozy

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I travel often with our two large dogs, so can have a difficult time finding a dog friendly place that lives up to the property description and our expectations. This was certainly not the case here; very clean, comfortable, and convenient to the area's attractions. Also, quiet location. Would recommend the site to others.

Moosehead Lake is Maine's premier lake region, offering great outdoor recreation and sports, including fishing, hunting, white water rafting, mountain biking, canoeing, hiking, wild life (moose) tours, and 'flightseeing' by seaplane. You can also enjoy a cruise on the lake on a vintage logging ship, the Katahdin. Spend some time in the Moosehead Marine Museum and learn the history of the lake, the 'Kate', and the logging industry in the region.

Take a short 30 minute drive north to the town of Rockwood where you will find Mt. Kineo. The once 1920's resort is now home to a 9-hole golf course tucked against the cliffs of the mountain, restaurants, cottages, and miles of hiking trails with breathtaking views of Moosehead Lake.

Visit the little town of Greenville to enjoy the variety of restaurants (from fine dining to handmade pizzas and subs), specialty shops, and much more. After dinner, enjoy 'Desserts on the Verandah' at DKB's Catering or Gifford's ice cream at the Dairy Bar. Finish off the day with a relaxing walk along the water in Thoreau Park. Friday evenings in July and August, meet at the Town's Gazebo and enjoy live music from local bands while you watch the sunset over the lake.

Enjoy hiking? This is the place for you! Miles and miles of hikes for all ages with magnificent views of Moosehead Lake and surrounding ponds. Hike...to the top of Big Moose (aka Squaw) Mountain, to the wreckage of a B-52 bomber on Elephant Mountain, to the fire tower on top of Mt. Kineo, to Gulf Hagas and Screw Auger Falls, or the conical peaks of Borestone Mountain.

'The International Sea Plane Fly-In' is held the weekend after Labor Day every year in Greenville. Hundreds of sea plane enthusiasts make this yearly pilgrimage to Moosehead Lake (Greenville) to display their planes, enjoy friendly flying competitions, and show off their flying expertise. Visit www.seaplanefly-in.org for more information.

Drop by the Visitor Center about 2 miles south of Greenville on Route 6 and 15 for additional information about local attractions and events.
