About Jóna

I am an artist, mother of two sons and a grandmother. I live in the house in Hvalfjörður and I also have my studio there.

I spend a lot of time in the capital area and I love the contrast between the city life and living in Hvalfjörður in all of it´s glory.

What fascinates me about this type of accommodation is that people get opportunity to stay in an icelandic home and get different experience for the country and its residents. The house is not always available for renting but when you stay, you have the whole house to yourself.

Why Jóna chose Kjósarhreppur

The house is in a quiet, secluded and peaceful location only 50meters from the sea with ever changing stunning view. It's close to the capital area with quick accessibility to main roads. It's a superb location for 'The golden circle' and more day trips to the south and west of Iceland. In the right weather condition it's a perfect location to view the Northern Lights dansing above the house.

Best house in Iceland!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed at this house for 4 nights in early April and absolutely loved everything about our stay. Our host (Jona) welcomed us when we arrived and was always available during our stay if we had questions or to give us updates on Northern Lights forecasts. The house is very comfortable and the views are absolutely breathtaking. If there wasn't so much to see in Iceland, we could have spent the entire visit on the property. Our kids loved exploring the beaches around the house. The house has everything you need - comfortable beds, hot water, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee press, etc. The house is an easy drive to Reykjavik and the Ring Road (maybe 30 minutes to Pinvellir National Park) and we spent our other days making a loop around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula (about a 2-2.5 hour drive to the 1st destination) and touring the Southern Coast (~2 hour drive to the first major waterfall) making it to Vik before heading back. One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the Northern Lights on our first night...we didn't even have to leave the master bedroom to watch them as they spread across the fjord directly in front of us. All in all, we felt we got the best rental in Iceland.

Beautiful house in an amazing location

  • 5 of 5

Amazing views, beautiful house, warm and cosy. Our host couldn't have been more helpful or lovely. Great starting point to visit the tourist spots like Fontana, geyser, gullfoss falls.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Jona was the most wonderful host. We arrived during a storm, so she made sure we were kept up to date with information regarding weather reports and road closures. She greeted us at the house with a warm smile and showed us around her beautiful home. She took her time and made sure we understood how everything worked. We realised that evening that the DVD player was broken. We told Jona and within minutes she replied to say that she would bring a new DVD player over in the morning. She was true to her word and this was the only minor issue we had throughout our stay. The house itself is in a stunning location, with views onto the Fjords, where we eventually saw the Northern Lights. The drive from the house to the main road is absolutely fine, and it's around 40 minutes to Reykjavik city centre. There is a small beach by the house, which was fun to wonder down to and take some gorgeous photographs. The bedrooms are all very spacious with a lot of cupboard space. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well indeed. The kitchen is extensively equipped with everything you could possibly need (oven, hob, fridge, freezer, drawers full of spices, sauces, tea/coffee and a few essentials in the fridge!). There was no microwave, but this was not an issue for us at all. Jona has a lot of books and games in the house and a small selection of DVDs (we brought our own). Playing games in the living room and waiting for the Northern Lights to come out was the best way to spend the evening. The bathroom is small, but had everything we needed. The bath certainly came in handy after a long day in the cold. I wouldn't change a thing about Jona's house or her hosting. Like I say in my title, it was perfect in every way! Thank you Jona for the holiday of a lifetime.

Best views ever!

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing house. An amazing host. Amazing views out every window. Amazing silence. Amazingly clean.

We were two couples in the house. Our host Jóna made us very welcome and comfortable. We had corresponded a lot before the trip and she prepared us in every way and suggested good things to see and do. She even texted us when there were sights of the Northern Light near the house, which is extra good service. The trip to/from the airport is exactly 70 minutes

and we recommend a 4 X 4 car if you want to drive around the island a bit.

Remember to buy dutyfree when you arrive, it is available right before customs, it is a lot cheaper than going to the local liquor stores. In fact all stores are a 25minute drive away from the house, so you cannot just pop around for 5minutes to get your fresh morning bread.

But as the house offers a big refrigerator, a freezer, two ovens and a wonderful gas stove and every kitchen utility you may a lot of shopping on day 1 and make your own food.

This may not mean a lot to most people but to me, this was very important: The beds, the sheets, the eiderdown and the pillows. They were an excellent quality, the very best and there were two pillows for each. We slept soooo well.

If there were 6 stars available, we would give it to both the host and the house.

Fantastic Home

  • 5 of 5

Jona was a gracious host. The home is comfy, cozy, and situated perfectly outside of the city but not too far from the world. We will be there again. And the Northern Lights were fantastic.

Vacation of a lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

The photos you see here....they absolutely do NOT do this home and property justice! If you think the photos are amazing (THEY ARE!!!)...they are but a fraction of how amazingly breathtaking this property and home are!

Jona is simply a gem of a woman and was so professional, pleasant, informative and easy to work with. Her home is so warm and the energy there is soul-cleansing. Iceland itself is now our most favorite place on Earth - and we've traveled to many places all over America and I have been to many other countries.

We vacationed from July 28 - August 2nd - it was myself, my two boys (aged 10 and 12), my sister and her 20 year old daughter. The weather was absolutely perfect. Mid to high 60's, brilliant sunshine, slight breeze...we even got a bit of a small sunburn on our cheeks the last day by the pool in Reykjavik!

The home is very conveniently located about 30 minute drive from Reykjavik and perfectly located to the National park, golden circle attractions and so much more. Driving around this beautiful country was one of our favorite things to do...driving a stick shift again through the country-side was so much fun!

Things I definitely recommend:

Horseback Riding! Viking Horses was AMAZING. A bit pricey...worth every penny.

Mink Viking Portraits: SO GLAD WE DID THIS! We have the best souvenirs ever with the professional photo session we had dressed in traditional Viking Wear.

The Blue Lagoon. That speaks for itself.

Swimming at the local pools. There are tons to choose from - all of the ones we visited were a blast. A great way to mingle with the local people - who are known for being some of the most hospitible and friendly anywhere in the world. (They truly are).

Drink drink drink the water! It seriously is amazing.

Waterfalls, geothermal areas, the golden circle. It's breathtaking.

I also recommend grocery shopping at Bonus and eating as much at home, packing snacks and lunch, etc. It is no joke how expensive everything is! But you can save a lot of money if you plan ahead. Buy your liquor at the airport if you like to enjoy libations! We only drank a few glasses of wine...but 1/5 of Jack Daniels is $85 at the liquor stores! Seriously.

Also, gas is about $8 a gallon so be sure to get a fuel effecient car.

This is a five star home with a five star owner. YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY.

Don't think about it any longer. Just book it!

Our trip was literally life changing.

Many Blessings, fellow travelers!

The Tragesser Family
