As Close as You Can Get to U.S. Capital

If you want to tour DC by bicycle there is a rental station 1/2 block from this vacation rental, which is only 3 blocks from the US Capitol and the beginning of the National Mall.

The Flat at Library Court is a row house in the historic district with a completely renovated interior and all new furnishings decorated with Washington D.C. flair. You’ll enjoy expansive views of the stately Library of Congress, which is directly across the street. The house backs to Library Court, a 300 year old historic cobblestone street built in the days of horse-drawn buggies.

Why you can’t beat our location: Capitol Hill is a historic residential neighborhood that stretches from the U.S. Capitol, and Pennsylvania Ave, the main corridor, emanates from the Capitol beginning at 2nd Street. We are one block away on 3rd St – the first residential block from the Capitol. The further you get (4th Street, 5th, 6th and so on), the less desirable and less safe the areas become, and the longer your walk to the sites. This is truly as good and as close as it gets! Don’t talk yourself into staying blocks away…

• 1 Block or Less: U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress (across the street), Folger (Shakespeare) Theatre

• Within 2 to 3 blocks: U.S. Capitol, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Mall, U.S. Botanical Garden, South Capital Metro station.

• Tour Bus: The Circulator Tour Bus picks up one block away but most of what you’ll want to see is within a short walk.

• Dining 1 Block or Less: We the Pizza; Good Stuff Eatery (President Obama’s favorite hamburger), Cosi (sandwiches, soups and salads), Starbucks, Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hunan Dynasty, Hawk N Dove; Capitol Hill Liquor and Deli

The Penthouse Apartment

Up a flight of stairs, you will enter the Penthouse Apartment of the Flat at Library Court. This two story unit has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and expansive views of the stately Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully stocked and the unit has wi-fi, cable TV and central air conditioning/heat.


Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.

As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, and Congressional Cemetery.

The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. It is also the site of an outdoor flea market every weekend.

Convenient, comfortable and clean!

Located very near Capitol Hill and within easy walking distance to the Metro station, this property was perfect for our group. We traveled to DC with friends from overseas who were super excited about touring Washington, DC. The location and the layout of the apartment made it easy for us to make their dreams come true. We were able to set up quick, convenient breakfasts at the breakfast bar and be out the door early to make all of our tours and see the sights. We could catch a bite in town or pack a picnic, if we wanted. We were able to pop back to the apartment for lunch and a rest, there were plenty of choices for a healthy lunch one block away. Dinner could be found in the same place, or a few blocks away there were more upscale choices.

There were a few glitches. The coffee maker (the drip machine) did not work. A k-cup machine was provided, but try making one cup at a time for several adults and getting out the door in a hurry. The owner just needs to invest in a new $18.95 drip coffee maker.

We were also surprised upon our return the first day to find someone else's luggage in our unit. As I mentioned, we had overseas visitors in our group and this unit does not provide a safe of any sort. We assumed that passports, extra cash, jewelry and personal belongings would be safe in our unit after we entered it. We had been given a code to the door and assumed we had sole use of the place for the time of our rental. When we came back and found luggage in our unit we called the rental agent and he had allowed renters from another unit to use our entry code and stash their luggage in our unit because they had arrived early before the cleaners had finished in their unit. The plan was for the cleaners to remove the luggage from our unit after they were done in the other unit. So, not only were the renters going to be in our unit, the cleaning staff were also going to be in our unit. We had not secured our personal items, passports, or other items in anyway. There really wasn't any provision in the apartment to do this AND we had no idea strangers would be entering the apartment. We considered this a complete breach of trust. When we discussed this with the rental agent, he called us out for not trusting other people.

In our dealings with the rental agent who handles these units, our feeling is that he lacks professionalism. He is scatter brained. He may not be competent to handle this business.

Owner's Response: I would like to thank this reviewer for the nice things he said about the unit. Apparently he liked the rental, but didn't like me. The situation that he is talking about was very unfortunate and I apologize for the problem. We quit frequently have tenants coming in that arrive early and need a place to put their luggage and then we also have people who have late flights and need a place to store their luggage until they go to the airport. On those days that we have people arriving early and people leaving late we run into a problem. Apparently I offended this gentleman and for that I apologize. I am glad he liked the rental. I am sure he feels better now that he has had a chance to insult me.

Great row house!

The house was beautiful and in a great location on Capitol Hill. We walked to Eastern Market and to local restaurants. We had plenty of room and the bathrooms were wonderful. Everything we needed was already there for us to use. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Great location & lots of room

Everything was as advertised. Extremely well equipped with many little extras. We had main level bedroom for us and room for 3 granddaughters upstairs. Owners effort to please guests is over the top!

Nicely remodeled, clean, convenient.

We enjoyed Library Courts Flat #2. The apartment was nicely furnished and very clean. The beds were comfortable. The location was convenient. Only two things we would change. #1 the windows only had blinds. Without curtains or shades, the rooms were very bright and sunny at 6am making it difficult to sleep. Which brings me to #2. The light woke everyone up very early in the morning (we were traveling with kids) and our neighbors said the hard wood floors carried all our footsteps and noises into their apartment (flat #1). Because the noise carried, we felt like we didn't have a lot of privacy. We had to tip toe around in the mornings and always felt like others were listening. I think if they added some room darkening shades, it would be fabulous.
