As Close as You Can Get to U.S. Capital

If you want to tour DC by bicycle there is a rental station 1/2 block from this vacation rental, which is only 3 blocks from the US Capitol and the beginning of the National Mall.

The Flat at Library Court is a row house in the historic district with a completely renovated interior and all new furnishings decorated with Washington D.C. flair. You’ll enjoy expansive views of the stately Library of Congress, which is directly across the street. The house backs to Library Court, a 300 year old historic cobblestone street built in the days of horse-drawn buggies.

Why you can’t beat our location: Capitol Hill is a historic residential neighborhood that stretches from the U.S. Capitol, and Pennsylvania Ave, the main corridor, emanates from the Capitol beginning at 2nd Street. We are one block away on 3rd St – the first residential block from the Capitol. The further you get (4th Street, 5th, 6th and so on), the less desirable and less safe the areas become, and the longer your walk to the sites. This is truly as good and as close as it gets! Don’t talk yourself into staying blocks away…

• 1 Block or Less: U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress (across the street), Folger (Shakespeare) Theatre

• Within 2 to 3 blocks: U.S. Capitol, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Mall, U.S. Botanical Garden, South Capital Metro station.

• Tour Bus: The Circulator Tour Bus picks up one block away but most of what you’ll want to see is within a short walk.

• Dining 1 Block or Less: We the Pizza; Good Stuff Eatery (President Obama’s favorite hamburger), Cosi (sandwiches, soups and salads), Starbucks, Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hunan Dynasty, Hawk N Dove; Capitol Hill Liquor and Deli

Up a flight of stairs, you will enter the Penthouse Apartment of the Flat at Library Court. This two story unit has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and expansive views of the stately Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully stocked and the unit has wi-fi, cable TV and central air conditioning/heat.

DESCRIPTION OF NEIGHBORHOOD:

Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.

As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, and Congressional Cemetery.

The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. It is also the site of an outdoor flea market every weekend.

Excellent location clean

Tv in king bedroom does not work. King pillows too flat and worn. Shower in bunk bed room leaks on floor. Wish we had paper towels available. Tv in bunk room only got two channels. Otherwise loved it.

Owner's Response: The TV in the in the king bedroom does work. Sorry about their not liking the pillows, but we will check them out and replace them if they need replacing. The shower in the bunk bed room does not leak. The cleaning people said there were still paper towels in this rental when they cleaned.

DC Trip to Capitol Hill

This is a great house in a wonderful location, only 3 blocks from the Capitol, Supreme Court and the National Mall! The pictures accurately reflect the townhouse and it was clean and renovated. The owner provided super information and tips about the property and the area. We ate in several restaurants just two blocks away on Pennsylvania Avenue (Sonoma, WE Pizza, and a wonderful bakery for breakfast called Firehook Bakery.) There is a super Italian restaurant in nearby Eastern Market area (5 blocks away) called Acqua Al 2. We use Uber for all of our non-walking trips and it worked great. The property is located in a neat area for walking and we always felt safe. The lantern at the front entrance needs a few bulbs replaced which would help at night. Seniors (like us) should note that there are 2 flights of stairs in the unit. We would highly recommend this property...the location is exceptional!

Great location and comfortable lodging.

Very comfortable lodging and well equipped. Only slight negative is the two narrow flights of stairs, making it tough on us old folks lugging 45 lb suit cases up and down. Also two of the bath rooms only have pedestal sinks with no room to put stuff.

Owner's Response: I am sorry the stairs were to much for our guests, but we assume that everyone knows that most homes in DC are narrow and tall row houses over 100 years old. If they had looked at the front of the row house they would have known there were stairs and could have avoided booking this type of property. I am sorry they complained about the bathrooms. Most of our guests are happy that we have 4 full size bathrooms for 3 bedrooms. They should have booked with a hotel with an elevator, but of course, it would have been 3 times as expensive and would not have had a fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer facilities.

Very Nice Property Overall!

This property is in a great location near the Capital. It contained all the items we needed an more. Very clean an comfortable. The only thing we would recommend is to get new pillows on some of the beds as they were very flat an in need of replacement.

We are already planning a return trip!

Wonderful place, perfect location

We had a wonderful family trip to this perfectly located rental. Right across from the Library of Congress and easy walking distance to the Mall with all the Smithsonian museums, the Capitol, Supreme Court, Union Station, and a host of great restaurants. Very well-maintained, clean, and pretty space. Very highly recommended!

Very comfortable and convenient flat

This flat is in a great spot for touring D.C.; close to the metro station and bike sharing or just walking to Capitol Hill, Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court. The flat was well maintained and clean; not necessarily luxurious, but very comfortable. The owner/manager does a great job of being attentive. Our family was two adults and three teens and we could have slept more if needed. We didn't need a car all week. I highly recommend this location.
