Great Getaway!
Wonderful place for a family vacation. Tha master suite is upstairs and away from main room, excellent for a brief escape. The kids stayed downstairs so we were able to put them to bed and continue visiting without disturbing them. The river is in view and also slightly audible in the master bedroom, which made for great sleeping. High quality and everything we could need. Owner reached out by phone shortly after we got there and was helpful and completely aaccessible during our stay.

Exceeded all expectations by our group of friends
Riverside Mountain Retreat exceeded all expectations by our group of friends who recently gathered here for a three-night getaway. The location on the South Toe River is perfect. The river is a short scamper away, and the sounds of the water are the perfect background when you are outside. And you will be outside once you see the wraparound porch that simply pulls you from the house. During the first day of our stay, it was 34 degrees and pouring rain, but folks kept migrating to the porch regardless. Inside, there is plently of room to spread out, three bathrooms, four bedrooms and other floor space if needed for a camping pad or cot, a great room area (living room and dining area) for gathering, a kitchen that was well equipped, including such amenities as enough trash bags, coffee filters, spices, sugar, and enough utentils and cooking gear to easily prep and feed 8 or more guests. The furniture was comfortable and functional. Towels and linens are furnished, and there were plently of extra blankets and covers for anyone needing another layer. Parking was ample and on a level driveway, and Brad was an attentive host who answered a couple of queries promptly and even called to update me about something. I suggest bringing your own camp chairs to set up under one of the covered outdoor porches or by the firepit near the river, but other than that this is truly one of those places that requires little of you other than your relaxation and conversation.

Did Not meet expectations
Left a lot to be desired. Not cleaned properly-wet towel behind the bed, heavy dust on window sills, blinds and light fixtures. Stains on carpets, downstairs shower doesn’t drain. Empty single serve wine box in bathroom vanity. Half consumed water bottle in living room. Woman’s hair tie in one bed. No light bulbs in master bedroom lamps. Grout in master shower desperately needs cleaning. Mouse droppings in oven drawer. Dog friendly yet dog found 2 plastic spoons and Lego’s under a bed that had to be taken from her mouth. Grill desperately needs cleaning-food still on it. We didn’t use it. Listing said sleeps 10 yet it really only sleeps 8. Location not quite as private as the listing suggests- neighbors closer than it appears.

I was born and raised in the Hendersonville area of NC, and have spent nearly all my life in the state. My favorite part of the state has always been and forever will be, the mountains.

Why they chose this property

When my wife and I started our search for a mountain retreat, we visited and fell in love with the Mount Mitchell area early on. After a number of visits and after looking at what seemed like 'hundreds' of potential places in this area, we fell in love with the River's Edge property the moment we saw it.

Our immediate and extended family and grandchildren have spent hours of enjoyment in this house making unforgettable memories that included a white Christmas, my oldest grandson's first trout on a fly rod, and countless Thanksgiving get-togethers.

My grandchildren like this area so much, that they bring a few friends each year as part of their birthday, and spend a long weekend fishing, tubing, swimming, and horseback riding. It's become a tradition with them. You know it's a special place if it can get teenage boys to give up cell phones and Xbox for a weekend.

This property holds a special place for me, and I hope you will find that it does the same for you and your family.

What makes this property unique

Boy, where do I start? We fell in love with this place for so many reasons:

Riverfront - 300 feet of private river frontage makes for awesome fishing, tubing, and wading. Just down the river from our house, the Mount Mitchell Golf course beings to maintain the river. Although a special permit is required to fish there, that area has some world-class, trophy brown, and rainbow trout.

Relaxation - This is an area and house where you can choose just how 'engaged' you want to be. Should you decide, you can step away from technology for a bit and embrace the outdoors, or, if you prefer, stay connected via the high speed internet. I should warn you though, you won't find a better house for a nice afternoon nap with the sound of the river running gently in the background.

Activities - There are so many unique and interesting activities to do in this area that it really never gets boring.

Master shower - The master shower is certainly not anything that you'd expect in a mountain getaway. Wall to ceiling Italian tile with a sitting area and dual European showerheads.
