About this property

Tumblin' Falls House

Tumblin' Falls House is perched high a'top a cliff overlooking the very beautiful Shinglekill Falls. This circa 1890's Dutch-Victorian has been updated to current lifestyle standards. A newly renovated country kitchen, spacious living and dining areas, with WIFI throughout. We have multilevel decks and a hot tub, overlooking the cascading stream and falls. A country setting with trails, informal gardens, and several natural pools. On the first floor are the dining rooms, kitchen, living room and a full bath. The second floor has 4 guest rooms, two with king beds, two with queens, and a sitting room with a double sofabed. There are two full baths on the second floor.
We are near hiking in Catskill Park, mountain biking, skiing ,and zip lining in Windham & Hunter. Shopping in the nearby towns of Catskill, Woodstock and Hudson, We are also near numerous farms for purchasing local produce. There are many varied and wonderful restaurants in close proximity. There is much to do in the area, but to be honest, we find that most of our guests wander down to the falls with a picnic and a good book, wallow in the pools, then return to barbeque on the deck to complete their day! It is all up to you.

Perfection
I wish I could lie and write a bad review to stop people from booking, but this is the second time our group stayed at the Tumblin’ falls home and it was even better than the first! I’ve been an avid traveler for years - between driving cross country several times and many international trips, I never thought that the place I’ve found myself the most at peace at was just a short drive away! For starters, the home itself is a BEAUTIFUL old Victorian with so much to offer and filled with quirks and character. 10 minutes from town, but in a world all of its own. Between the location, the house and architecture, and the impressive collection of art (loved seeing all the Peter Max’s!) - the charm is magnetic. I would come back just for the home itself! But the bonus: the waterfall! We planned this trip to include more days so that we could explore the Catskills, but couldn’t fathom finding anything more beautiful then what was sitting right in front of us so didn’t dare venture out! Waking up in the morning to sit on the porch and take it all the sights and sounds is exactly what the soul needs! Being down at the falls is surreal, and the two pups we had with us were living their best lives too! Hugh and Linda are not only amazing hosts, but great people! Looking forward to spending more time here!

Big and cozy, kitschy and perfect
This was the perfect location for our family to come together and enjoy each others company to celebrate a birthday. Any questions I had were answered quickly and I really appreciate that. We were able to bring our dogs (part of the family!) there were plenty of spots in the home to play games, hang out and relax. The views were amazing (ie nature, waterfalls, river). Quite close to food store and gas station too. We were able to BBQ and just relax. The waterfall is just beautiful. The water is cold, but that did not deter us from jumping off the big log and and our dogs had the time of their lives! We were pleasantly surprised to have a wonderful bottle of Rose Brut and loaf of bread from a local bakery. It was so very kind of owner (Hugh) to drop off for us. The house is an older house, but has such character it was a little treasure trove of things to see. We did not watch tv the whole time we were them (3 nights) because we were enjoying each others company and playing cards and games. The sound of the River is just so relaxing. Playing horseshoes on the lawn was another great activity. I was also able to sit on a deck and paint the beautiful waterfall scene. The back deck was perfect with having dogs, as they were gated in, and we didn’t have to worry about them running off. That was a big plus! Thank you Linda and Hugh!

Location and View
The view (and sound) of the Falls and location of the property (close proximity to Catskills, breweries, wineries, zip lining, etc.) exceeded expectations.

About the host

My husband Hugh knew about this property before I ever did. He used to speak of it often. It was the summer home of his soccer captain and roommate from College at UPenn. With Andy being an only child, and off to medical school in Brussels the house sat vacant for several years. It became know as the haunted party house and fell into disrepair by local kids who found it to be an interesting hangout. So in 1983 after a bad weekend when kids had broken several windows etc., Andy's Mom decided to sell. Needless to say, I was immediatly dispatched to finally see the house I had heard so much about. For me it was LOVE at first sight.Hugh needed no convincing.

Why they chose this property

I don't think we need to say why. The Falls, the sounds of nature, the trees, even the ROCKS.That's an inside joke, my husband is something of a rock hound.

What makes this property unique

Being in the midst of all this natural beauty and still just 15 minutes from anything else you may need.
