Set on a Hill Overlooking Blueberry Bay With A Short Walk To Beach

This fall enjoy our 20 Acres overlooking Blueberry Bay on Nova Scotia's South Shore.for a long term stay or getaway holiday. We have finished our fourth year of operating one of Nova Scotia best vacation properties. 2016 US exchanges rates are super exciting for our US visitors and the rentals are filling up fast. Your stay at the Sandpiper will provide you an opportunity to relax and recharge.Special events are welcome and our first wedding was held on the property in 2015. The area is quiet and free from all hustle and bustle. Our Shaker interior finishing and Cape Cod exterior capture the seafaring history of the area. The house is completely custom renovated with a mind to keeping much of the original feel of our ancestral home ( originally built in 1850) with all the modern comforts and tastes. It can accommodate a large family or a group in style for weekly accommodation. The Sandpiper will appeal to those who appreciate activities the local land and sea provide and yet retire to an evening of conversation and up scale accommodation. Our family has spent generations in this pristine place on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. The community is called West Berlin but before 1886 was known as 'Blueberry', after Blueberry Bay - just a 3 minute walk down a meandering country road. The sandpipers that fly constantly over the bay are our naming muse.

The area feels as if it's far from the maddening crowd (and it is) , but is only 15 minutes from the quaint, historic town of Liverpool and 45 minutes from the larger center of Bridgewater and the World Heritage site of Lunenburg. The vibrant city of Halifax is less than two hours away if a trip to the province's capital is in your plans.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The accommodations are spotless, spacious, and have every amenity one could wish for. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds comfortable, and the living spaces generous. The Sandpiper could easily accommodate larger groups and is a great home away from home. The location is peaceful and rural without being too far off the beaten track. Nearby beaches are spectacular and Liverpool is just minutes away.

Would definitely stay again.

Very relaxing. Would recommend. Loved the short walk to the beach and along the beach where we saw seals. Great weekend!

Amazing house, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

7 adults and one baby stayed here for a weekend, and loved it! The house is huge! More than big enough for the 8 of us. We were actually getting a little lost from time to time on the first day (the 2 staircases were tripping us up a bit)!

The location is pretty great. Though it's not right on the beach, you have a great view of the bay from pretty much every room. It's about 15 minutes away from Liverpool, so not too difficult to get groceries and other necessities.

We had a 14 month old baby with us, and the downstairs living area was great for him! We didn't really have to baby proof at all, which was nice. He could crawl around the whole floor without getting into too much trouble.

The owners were fantastic, and responded to any questions we had right away.

Overall, if we were back in the area, we'd look at staying here again!

Pictures do not do this beautiful property justice!!

  • 5 of 5

We had 4 generations from 2 provinces come together for a family vacation and could not have asked for a better property to enjoy.

The pictures are beautiful but do not do this property justice, it was spacious, clean and comfortable. The owners have thought of literally every last detail one would need or want to have a perfect vacation.

The owner was very accomodating and helpful throughout the booking and payment process. Always easy to get a hold of and answer all of our questions and gave excellent information about the areas.

If you are looking for the perfect Nova Scotia getaway I urge you to give the Sandpiper a try. We look forward to hopefully staying again next year!

West Berlin: comfortable vacation home

  • 4 of 5

This property is not on the beach. It has lovely views of Blueberry Bay from the dining room, living room, bedrooms and large deck. It is a wonderful area to explore. We kayaked most days(Port Medway, Liverpool, Port Mouton boat launch sites). We cycled numerous quiet back roads. We hiked the fabulous kejimkujik seaside park. We visited interesting museums, artist studios and shops. We drove the gorgeous shoreline to Lahave and did a day trip to Shelburne /Birchtown.

Meals at Lane's, Whitepoint and Quarterdeck were very good( reserve ahead).

The weather was changeable. Often there was morning fog but heading inland the fog vanished within about 1 km.

The home is extremely comfortable with nice beds and lots of couches. Great place to read and relax. We enjoyed seeing hares on the lawn, a few deer, lots of birds and seals popping up on rivers and the ocean. We walked Beach Meadows often as it was such a beautiful fine sand beach.

Breathtaking!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely love this property. Spacious, private and great view on the ocean. It has everything you need - only thing we missed was a firepit! Beach right across the street, and an even sandier one just a 7 minute drive away. 10 minutes from the town of Liverpool. Will be staying here again!

Lovely spot for a group gathering

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful property over New Years. Large functional kitchen, big dining room and table space. The living area is cozy with plenty of seating, and played host to a variety of board and card games. We had a magnificent walk along the shore on New Year's Day, even coming across a juvenile harbour seal sunning itself in the tall shore grass. The morning mist on Blueberry Bay was something to behold, as was the unpolluted night sky and unending stars. I would say get thyself to this winter paradise, but I call dibs.
