About the property

Beautiful Ranch, Great Adventure! Sleeps up to 12

“Elk Valley Ranch is an incredible adventureland for families! The open space and scenery is unparalleled and the proximity to Boulder Mountain and Capital Reef makes it possible to do more things than you thought you could in a short amount of time.

Beyond the surroundings, the beautiful converted barn (built in 2004) will exceed your expectations! It is the perfect place to bring your large family and grandchildren. The attention to details are perfect. The large open main floor of the barn is fabulous with an open beamed ceiling, antiques and comfortable furniture. The kitchen will feel like home with granite countertops and great space to prepare meals for our large group, as well as having enough seating for all at two large beautiful tables. There are great spaces for all of the adults to visit as well as kids. In the Great room is a pool table, flat screen TV/DVD, film and book libraries, game table and board games, as well as free WI FI. The spacious bathrooms are great with three sinks and in one and two in the other. The Cliff Overlook bedroom has a king size bed and the Gone Fishin' bedroom has two queens. Another queen bed is nestled in one corner of the Great Room. The loft is perfect for children who feel like they're having a sleepover.

Most meals are enjoyed on the large flower surrounded patio complete with BBQ, smoker and oversize griddle.

Fantastic rustic lux adventure

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the barn for a week at the end of September with my in-laws and our two year old daughter. Everyone had a wonderful time both hanging around the barn and ranch as well as exploring Capitol Reef and Boulder area. The baby loved the horses outside and climbing on all the comfy sofas and couches in the barn. We cooked at the kitchen and sat out looking at the stars at night. Decor of the place is rustic lux Western and very comfortable with lots of areas to lounge. Not child proofed per se but not hard to watch the baby with the open floor plan. The spiral stair case maybe a bit of a challenge for those not in good shape but was not a problem for us at all. There is also a bed downstairs if elderly and cannot climb the stairs. The Dietleins are fantastic hosts and very responsive to our questions. Looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Great Place for Families to Gather!

  • 5 of 5

This facility and location were a great place to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family. We loved the location and the herds of elk and deer that were in the fields surrounding the property. It was wonderful to feel so isolated in such a beautiful setting. The house itself was beautiful and accommodated our family and grandchildren perfectly. It has plenty of comfortable space for everyone to relax and simply be together. There was also ample room with the 2 huge bathrooms and showers so we did not feel crowded. We will hopefully be visiting again soon. We loved everything about staying there.

Owner's Response: Hello Christi, We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at the ranch. Thank you for your kind review. Our only regret is that we were not able to be there to meet your family. Grover is green and beautiful now, and those deer and elk are busy eating up the fields. I guess they like it here too. Thanks again, Sandy

Perfect retreat!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and knew we had chosen the perfect place to "come home to" from our days adventuring in and around Capitol Reef National Park! There were only the 3 of us, and it was way more room than we needed, but it just made us feel more special and spoiled! Oh and we brought our dog who was more than welcome.

You will be blown away by the decor and size. It is beautiful and the bathrooms are huge! If you are bringing some kiddos along, there is more than enough room for more than 12 to stay - kids just need to bunk down on mats that are provided. There is a queen bed downstairs, 2 queens upstairs and a king in a separate room upstairs. I'm not sure if the couches fold out, but there are 3 couches that were very comfy.

The kitchen is fully stocked and they even had some things I forgot to pick up like some olive oil - don't count on it being there, but if you check before you shop, you may be pleasantly surprised. We ate out a lot, but did have breakfast every morning. For whatever reason, my pancakes were yummier in the barn :0) One night we used the outside grill, too.

There is a beautiful pool table and we had a lot of fun teaching our 11 year old to play. While it was cold, and even snowing outside, we were warm and toasty inside. The beds were super comfy and the views from the balcony were amazing! The star gazing opportunities were really something to see.

The barn is remote and we loved that sense of privacy. Can't say enough nice things about this amazing place and her fantastic owners. If you are looking to play in and around Capitol Reef National Park, you really should stay here!

This is a "MUST STAY" for your family gatherings!!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful place to stay. The inside of the barn is absolutely gorgeous! It had plenty of room for all 23 of our family. All the adults had a bed and the loft held all 15 grandkids. There were all the cooking things needed. There was a very nice, large gas barbeque. There are not places to eat out right there, but are a few small towns close by. We took our own food and that worked out great. The surroundings are so beautiful and it was very private. There were lots of places to walk and play. We went to Capitol Reef one day (only 10 miles away) and spent the rest of the time hanging out at the ranch. Our grandkids want to go again. The Dietleins were such great hosts and wanted to make sure that we took full advantage of all the ranch had to offer. There were hills to climb and beautiful walking places. The kids had a great time with the pool table. Even though we had a little rain while we were there, we had an awesome time. There was plenty of room for us to "just hang out" and that was what the kids wanted to do most. This was our first time renting and we had such a great time that we will do it again for sure. We will definitely come here again. Thank you Sandy and Allen for sharing your beautiful place with us and for making sure we had everything we needed. I would really recommend this for a family vacation!! Carol Stilson - Orangeville, Utah

Owner's Response: Hello Carol, Thank you for being our first guests. It was a delight to have you. We have realized however that we must limit the number of guests to 12 from this point on. It makes it more comfortable for visitors and is much easier on the rental and the septic tank, but you were great and we hope you will come again, but with fewer family. Sandy
