Charming Renovated Farmhouse On 13 Acres

The Green Gate Farmhouse is one of two exceptional vacation rentals on our historic 13 acre property (see our other listing #957749 green gate guest house). This recently renovated farmhouse features 1.5 baths, a master bedroom with queen bed, and a loft area with three twin beds. A well-appointed kitchen and beautiful maple slab dining table are provided for your dining enjoyment. Guests enjoy our enclosed back porch and large open front porch for lounging during the warm months. Modern amenities such as ac, direct tv, and complimentary wifi are provided.

About Shawn Callahan

I am a degreed professional (mechanical engineering as well as nutrition science) with a variety of talents and interests. In addition to a 'corporate' engineering career, i have worked in the natural foods industry (various roles over several years at a food co-op), nutritional counseling, and residential construction and design. For the past several years, i have been dedicated to the restoration of green gate guest houses- our one-of-a-kind lodging properties in northern mn.

Why Shawn Callahan chose Minnesota

Our 13 acre property was a former mining town, then a large family farm for much of the past century. In addition to the rich history of this property, it is also unique located on a private setting between the small town of Biwabik and the Giants Ridge Recreation Area.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our property is bordered by the the Embarrass River, providing private water access to our guests for lounging and swimming. Two sandy beaches on nearby Embarrass Lake are within walking/biking distance. We are also located just a block off the Mesabi Bike Trail, 1 mile from The Quarry golf Course and 3 miles from Giants Ridge Ski Area (both nordic and alpine skiing/snowboarding and tubing options).

Fabulous Farm!

My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at the Green Gate farmhouse for nine days. What a nice facility! The renovation on this property shows what a master craftsman can accomplish. The farmhouse has modern conveniences set in a well thought out design with nuances that keep the original feel and atmosphere.

Shawn Callahan couldn't have more gracious or accommodating. He made himself available to us throughout our stay and now we count him as a friend .

If you are visiting the North woods, I can't imagine you could arrange for better accommodations.

Fantastic weekend getaway in the farmhouse

I don't often write reviews, but we had such a great, relaxing weekend in the farmhouse that I felt we should share.

The grounds and house are very clean, charming and well maintained. It was great having a fully equipped kitchen to work with, we made several meals and were not missing anything. Lots of space to walk around and explore outside, all of the buildings on the property have a ton of character and there are miles of trails within walking distance of the property. We would have done more hiking and exploring, but the house was so comfortable and inviting that we found it hard to leave. Great place to get away and relax while enjoying some amazing scenery.

Shawn was very responsive via text with any questions we had during our stay. He is very easy to work with and accommodating of his guests. I would highly recommend Green Gate Guest Houses to my friends and family.

Great accomodations, comfy & cozy

Our family of four (two teenage boys) and two other friends (teenage boy and his dad) stayed here for three nights right after Christmas. The accommodations were perfect. The property is conveniently located about 5 minutes from Giant's Ridge Ski Hill, and just as close to the city of Biwabik. Hiking and cross country trails are nearby. The farmhouse was cozy and comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out at the farmhouse while our kids hit the slopes. I was picturing a drafty old farmhouse, but we never even needed to use the wood stove. The kitchen was well equipped for all our cooking needs, including most any spice you could use (garam masala anyone?) The property is well maintained and nicely decorated. Shawn was very helpful before and during our stay. We loved it so much, we are hoping to visit again in the summer. There appear to be lots of options for activities in the summer; hiking,biking, kayaking (the Embarrass river runs behind the house) and lake activities (Lake across the street). I highly recommend this property.

Great weekend getaway!

This is our second time staying at the Green Gate Guest House property, and we wish we could just blink and be there. We previously stayed in the barn property, but stayed most recently in the Farmhouse. I can't decide which we like better! My husband and I were looking for a quite, relaxing weekend away from life's recent chaos, and knew that we needed to head north. The property gets you away from everything, but still has everything you need (or I should say "need")--includinghigh speed wifi to satisfy your Netflix binge, and everything you'd need in the kitchen to cook or bake to your heart's desire. We spent most of the time in the Farmhouse itself, but ventured out to nearby Giant's Ridge for a hike and a massage--great prices at the spa there! I can't recommend this property enough--just wish it was in our backyard!

Unmatched

There is no property like this anywhere else in northern Minnesota. Attention to detail is evident in design and comfort in the home, and the location is perfect for summer fun! We loved the Farm House with our two toddlers, enjoyed the trails and had a great family weekend. I was trying hard to keep low expectations, but no reason. Green Gate is unmatched - and has now set a high standard that is going to make it hard to go anywhere else. Our first night there was spent planning a winter getaway to come back. I can't wait!

Wonderful Stay!

Shawn is a wonderful host and he has transformed the farm into an amazing place to connect back with nature, while staying in comfort. The farmhouse has all the furnishings, including the basics in the kitchen for cooking! We slept 7 adults comfortably and it really felt like a family. The access to the beautiful Iron Range was ideal, and the fire pit with chairs made for great community.
