We have so enjoyed our first two years of hosting. We have met new friends from around the world, sharing stories and information about the Shepherdstown area. The cottage is right next door to our home. We are available if needed, but value guest privacy.
Ginger Hankins purchased this cottage in 1998
We share this lovely ten acres with deer, foxes, turtles, frogs, herons, turkeys, owls, pileated woodpeckers, wildflowers and other flora and fauna. While we do enjoy eating out in Shepherdstown and visiting the local attractions, we especially love our quiet weekends at home.
We welcome visitors to NCTC, Freshwater Institute, and Shepherd University. Christmas in Shepherdstown, Freedom's Run and Contemporary American Theatre Festival are big events in town. Shepherdstown Visitor's Center has an excellent website that details all our lovely town has to offer.
I came to the Cottage at Rockymarsh for several days to write, and it was perfection! This place is good for the soul - quiet, private, crisp country air, sunshine pouring through the large bank of windows all day, open uncluttered spaces, serenity outside and in. A family of three whitetail deer came for a visit twice a day, a wren was nesting in the porch rafters, the walk to the stream was a nice break from work. Inside, it was all zen - calming colors, hints of nature everywhere, fluffy comforters and pillows (I slept 12 hours the first night!). Ginger thought of everything to make this an easy stay - the kitchen is well-stocked with breakfast food, snacks, coffee and a selection of teas, milk, creamer, all the cooking supplies you will need. The grocery store and Shepherdstown are 10 minutes away. The high-speed wifi is great, and you can connect your cell phone to wifi, so no worries if the regular cell signal isn't strong. There's a handy binder of information, with Ginger & Joe's restaurant recommendations, places to rent bikes and kayaks, etc. I can't wait to come back for a longer stay next time. Thanks, Ginger!
My girlfriend and I recently spent five (5) nights here in late-October and found the cottage a perfect retreat. It was comfortable, cozy and quiet. We felt totally at home and wanted for nothing. Ginger was a fabulous host. We will be back.
Delightful stay, we are repeat customers which says it all. Wonderfully clean place. Looking forward to coming back
Our stay at the cabin was excellent! The hospitable details of the place -- extra blankets, warm bedding, breakfast items, cleanliness, and the warm welcome from Ginger -- made our time there very relaxing. We highly review and recommend Ginger's cabin.
The cottage was the perfect place for our month-long stay in the Shepherdstown area. Everything that previous guests have said is true. We feel very fortunate to have been able to stay here and have our friends and family join us in enjoying this wonderful cottage in the woods. We hope to return next year!
Ginger and Jo, thanks for everything! A&B
My family and I had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage. The house is perfectly maintained and the hosts are incredibly responsive. The setting is perfect for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. We look forward to coming back again next year.
Convenient to all that Shepherdstown has to offer, including restaurants, shops and festivals. Guests have enjoyed local attractions including Harpers Ferry Nat'l Park, Antietam Nat'l Battlefield and the C&O Canal Towpath. We welcome guests to the Contemporary American Theatre Festival, Christmas in Shepherdstown, and Freedom's Run, just to mention a few. Stay with us and see why Shepherdstown was named one of Budget Travel's Coolest Small Towns. Or just stay in and enjoy the sunny cottage. Well-stocked with books, magazines and cozy throws.
