Come and enjoy this, our 2nd home. This is a spacious house with a lake view on a quiet cove. The great room has a gas fireplace. Overlooking the great room is an L shaped game deck with pool table and air hockey games. The game deck is spacious. Out from the great room is the social hall overlooked by a balcony from the game deck. The social hall has a bar and comfortable couch and chairs. All walls exhibit windows not only allowing views into the great room but also the cove and the main Old Hickory Lake. Five bedrooms accommodate 4 queen size beds and 1 full size bed. Two additional queen beds are available. All bedding and linens are furnished. The bathroom is off the great room and has a whirlpool bathtub. A spiraling stairway goes from the game deck down past the great room and into the theater room. A large 96' screen with projection TV and surround sound offer entertainment from cable TV or any movies of your own that you might bring. Wi-Fi is free. Seating is accomplished with 12 reclining chairs situated on a tiered floor. A sub-woofer under the tiered floor bring movie sound to life as the floor vibrates with dramatic scenes. There are 2 bedrooms and a bath room off the theater area. Full laundry facilities are on this level. Outside the cabin is a large deck that continues completely around the cabin. Table and chairs and gas grill make cooking and eating outside a great event. A concrete parking area is large and great for parking a motor home. Above the garage is the large bonus room, beautifully finished with TV and couch. Eight queen beds, 5 with privacy curtains, will accommodate additional people. Air conditioning and heat with ceiling fans create constant comfort in this area. A full bath is on this level and a half bath is available on the lower level. The lower level garage will accommodate 2 to 4 automobiles or possible a motorhome.
I wish to introduce myself to you. My name is David Edsall. My wife, Joan, and I built this cabin in 1983 as a 2nd residence. I founded some very popular central Tennessee weekly publications in 1971. In 1995 I sold this business but retained this, our 2nd residence. I currently live in Indianapolis however I still have grandchildren (all grown up) living in the Nashville area. The operation of this vacation home is now a family affair. We are all Christian people and would like to share this property with anyone who will respect it and our neighbors as we do. A member of my family will greet you on your arrival and see that you are comfortable and all your questions answered. If any problems should arise during your stay, we are just a phone call away and will respond immediately. I hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.
David Edsall purchased this cabin in 1983
When we first came to the Nashville area we lived on our houseboat. We have always been boating people. Soon we needed a facility to help us be more relaxed and to accommodate our key employees for special events and as a perk for a job well done. We loved the water, so the Cumberland River, that flows past the cabin, was perfect when we wanted to take vacations by water. From this cabin the world was our oyster. Going upstream we would come to the beginning of the river; about 200 miles away. Going downstream we would come to the Ohio River and then the Mississippi River then the Gulf of Mexico then the Atlantic Ocean; well you get the picture. Come share the adventure of our cabin, our hospitality and our quiet surroundings. Unfortunately we cannot allow access to the lake or the boat dock from this property due to an Army Corp of Engineers ruling. However, the view is great.
The Cabin is designed for family and friends use in mind. It is sectioned off so groups of family or friends can make their own gathering within the main gathering but still within eye sight of the others. After the days activities everyone can retire to the privacy of a bedroom. Some may choose the bonus room where even sleeping is fun.
17 of us enjoyed our week here. Plenty of room for all. The Bonus room over the garage, which we nicknamed the frat house, was a huge hit with my kids/nieces & nephews, as was the gaming loft & movie room. The huge den overlooking the lake inlet was awesome too, and the fact that it was separated by doors from the kitchen/dining/sitting areas was a bonus if one needed some quite space.
John was a pleasure to deal with, & he even called us to let us know the house was ready before the agreed upon check in time. We had an issue with the ac in the den area, and John was able to get someone to come over and fix it quickly. (The waste line for that AC unit needed to be drained). The oven could use a cleaning though.
While this is a quiet, residential neighborhood, we did not have any problems with any neighbors. There were even some friendly "good morning" exchanges with them.
Nashville is a 20 minute drive, and what a fun city that is! We went there 3x during our week and took in a show at The Grand Ole Opry, went to the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Walk of Fame (lots of homeless though in the nearby park to that attraction), and bars. Lots of bars, with music coming from each one. Have a drink or two, and move on to the next one and repeat. Except for the designated driver of course! 3 or 4 blocks worth of good music, drinks & people. The only downside to Nashville were the panhandlers asking for money quite frequently.
We did Mammoth Caves NP in Kentucky, about a 75 minute drive north from the house. An amazing place, and if you're at the house for a week, I suggest going to the caves! A few of us went to Memphis, which I was told took roughly 3 hours to get to. I passed on that!
We went to the lake twice, once just relaxing & swimming at a sandy beach, and the second time we rented a pontoon and went out for 8 hours. Both times we had the lake to ourselves. In fact, while on the pontoon, we encountered only 2 other boats while out there. Not sure why it was so empty, but we loved that! We even had a bbq on the boat! We also rented kayaks and paddled around the lake. That was fun, and you're able to get a lot closer to the shoreline with a kayak!
The house sits on a small inlet/canal as opposed to being on the lake. There is a nice view of the lake from the huge deck, but you can not access the canal from the property due to Army Corp regulations.
We had a wonderful time here, it's close to Nashville, & it's perfect for large groups!
I really enjoyed the stay at this retreat. Very nice up kept home. The owner was very easy to deal with and always replied to any communication in a quick manner. The only thing I would even suggest to better my stay would have been another refrigerator in the bonus room. There was not enough space for food for our large group of 30 people. Beautiful home with lots to do and plenty of space for our large group.
This was a great house for our family to stay for a week. We really enjoyed the fact that all 30 of us could all stay together in one location. We had a wide range of ages in our group. The younger crowd really loved the theatre room, pool table and air hockey, while the older groups enjoyed the large spacious areas in the house and out on the deck to relax and catch up with everyone. The large garage was an awesome area to have cornhole tournaments and other games away from the scorching heat outside. It was very convenient to have a washer and dryer available along with being stocked with other necessities. We were impressed with the owner's prompt response to an issue with one of the couches, he had it replaced while we were there. We had plenty of linens and towels, but would have liked to have had some fitted sheets instead of all flat sheets that weren't large enough. Also, it would have been nice to be able to control the thermostat, some our elderly were uncomfortable because it was a little cold. Overall great place!
This was a nice big cabin that fit 27 of us comfortably. Our ages ranged from 89 to 1 month old. We traveled from Illinois, Iowa, North Carolina, Florida and Minnesota. It was like a big family reunion. We all enjoyed the pool table, air hockey, and if course the movie theater. It was great to be able to sit outside on the deck that was all around the cabin. Plenty of room to have a wiffle ball game on the other side of the garage. We even had a bags tournament in the garage. We were there a week and were never bored. Lots of things to do. Down town Nashville, zoo, water park and the lake just to name a few. And Yes we would stay there again if we would decide to meet in that area. No complaints at all. We all had a great time!
This cabin provided a good place for our family of 22 to gather for a reunion. We definitely needed the bonus room and it was a plus, plus to the accommodations. We enjoyed the game room, theatre room, and the great room on the back of the house provided a good environment to play table games! We brought yard games, as well, but due to the steep slope of the lawn we were unable to play them! We found the kitchen too small for the size of the house, and the refrigerator was a challenge...I worked some magic and was able to get 4 days worth of cold/freezer food to fit. I would suggest a larger fridge or add another one down in the laundry room area for overflow food and drinks. There were no kitchen towels, but certainly did appreciate Dawn dish soap provided, as well as, dishwasher soap and garbage bags. As we arrived we found huge holes in the sofa :( and lots of light bulbs were burned out needing to be replaced. The linens for the beds was a huge challenge: only flat sheets and too small to tuck--I would suggest fitted sheets be provided or the guests should bring their own! If you are looking for a lake cabin experience this is more of a neighborhood. We were fine with that, but a little disappointed that we could not step one toe onto the dock! These are just a few things that we noticed and think need some attention, but at the end of the day, our family left having had a wonderful time together in a place that gave us the space to enjoy one another! I hope this is helpful!
Nashville is the music capital of the world. From the cabin you are 30 minutes or less from about everything. Opry Mills is a world class shopping mall. The Grand Ole Opry for country music entertainment and the country music's STAR gazing. Next door is The Opryland Hotel. This is a must visit if only to see the amazing Atriums. Music row for unique nightlife adventures may be something you like.
