About Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals

Homemaker, grandmother, Mtn Girl at heart.

Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals chose Tennessee

Love the privacy and the near by Lake access. Love being on the water but have to get away from it to get the kind of privacy my family likes. Here you can target practice or get into the hot tub in your birthday suite.

What makes this cabin unique

The most unique benefit is the versatility of this location.

Gorgeous cabin with quality craftsmanship. Cedar wood work, zebra wood floors. Very unique. A lot of thought went into this home. Snow skiing to jet skiing, Fall foliage to wildlife viewing right here on the property. Gorgeous views anytime of the year that are second to none. Paved roads, with good access to town, shopping and restaurants. Zip lines, whitewater rafting, Bristol race. Where mtns meet water.

Wonderful Week in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Overall, our stay at the cabin way exceeded our expectations.

The general location was close to a great variety of outdoor activities – too many for one week! The local area was delightfully hilly and green. Temps were cooler than anticipated, but apparently normal for the area, which was a definite bonus. (And still warm enough for kayaking.)

The cabin was truly "secluded"; I remember seeing a car go by maybe four times in the whole week. Excellent privacy! Instead of suburbia, you have the sounds of the woods. What a treat to sit out on the porch and listen to the rain. The trees were great (we don't have trees like that out in the Midwest), with lots of birds to hear, and some to see. We LOVED the porch; most times we ate at the table out there.

The exterior of the cabin had decking all around, except for the driveway; very clean; no mud. We totally enjoyed the fire pit and the hot tub. (Nice to get out and not stink of chlorine - thank you!) Grill worked great, and the laundry was very convenient.

The cabin (seems a misnomer) was amazing! (Who built that?) Way spacious with a great layout, much cleaner than home :( , very well appointed, both in the kitchen and the rest. I don't pack light, so I would have liked a small dresser in the bedroom. The water's apparently from a well, sweet!

Heed their recommendation to plan ahead of time! We had almost no cellphone service at the cabin (although the landline is there if needed). There was no internet service so planning had to be done elsewhere. There was TV, but had trouble getting local weather forecasts. We'll prepare better next time.

The housekeeper was available and friendly, although we didn't see her. On-line booking, paying, etc. went well. The info they provided covered about everything (very key!).

We got a lot of hiking in (get trail maps ahead of time and bring them with you), horseback riding (Dutch Creek), and kayaking (Fish Springs Marina; Toni was delightful!). The Mast General Store WAS cool, the Game Keeper was worth all its stars, and the Captain's Table was excellent. (We ate in the cabin most of the time.) We ran out of week long before we ran out of things to do, and would have enjoyed more time just sitting on the porch enjoying the woods. Next time.

I would definitely recommend Banjo Ridge to anyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of a beautiful cabin, or just “get away”.

Enjoyable nice place, but needs some updates.

  • 3 of 5

- When we arrived, the place was full of dog hair and dust. It looked liked it had not been cleaned in awhile, specially under the furniture. Although, I understand it is a cabin and dust/hair/bugs will be there. I bring this up because of the warnings about the deposit. I emailed the owner with pictures about it, and they called to assure me that I should not worry about it and if I wanted to cleaning crew to stop by...it would have been an inconvenience for us because we were going to town and the our dog was staying behind. So we declined (but appreciated) the offer and we cleaned a bit ourselves just to be more comfortable. We also saw reviews raving about how clean the cabin was...so maybe we just had a wrong crew done the job before we arrived.

- The setting is nice, cabin middle of the woods. There is an old school bus down the hill that looks like just got back from Woodstock.

- The cabin itself needs some update and upkeep. But it is a cabin...

- A couple of abandoned constructions close by killed a bit of the view in the back, but it was ok.

- The cabin layout was nice with the big room

- To my taste I would place a couple of lights in the front....it is dark very, dark if you want to take something from your car at night-- bring a good flashlight

- Enjoyed the fire-pit. Did not use the hot-tub

- Bring a stereo for some background classic music -- it is great next to the firepit in the late afternoon.

- The hot tub was a bit noise, specially at night when you want to sit outside and enjoy the "sounds of silence"

Overall it was a nice getaway with clean mountain air.

Owner's Response: Always appreciate guest comments. Thank you, glad that you'll enjoyed your stay. Would like to reference a couple of comments. Yes, our housekeeping staff is excellent and does a wonderful job according to most guests. Their rating are usually 5 stars. Other Guests checked out that morning and our staff of three spent all day cleaning & preparing the cabin for your arrival. When you called DURING your stay after you had occupied the place & complained of dog hair is obvious you brought a dog. We know that. Thats ok, there is no problem and your dog hair isn't going to jeopardize your deposit. No worries all has been returned to you. Our staff did call you, checked in with you and as always offers to help. You said everything was great and no assistance needed. That's about all we can do. Your views are heavily wooded. You can't see any of the things mentioned but can find them in the area if you search. There's one cabin in the distance that's beautiful, that's about it. There are two large lights on the front of the house. The switch is beside the door. Always a good idea to bring a flash light. That's why we tell all our guest to bring one. (Be sure to review your welcome Package. There's a list of recommended things to bring). This home offers wifi and DTV. You have over 100 music stations from classical to rock stations to listen to, hundreds of tv shows and all the movie stations. Glad you enjoyed the fire pit, peace and quiet. It's a beautiful place that most enjoy.

Peaceful setting and a well-cared-for property

  • 5 of 5

We had the most pleasant, restful week at the Banjo Ridge cabin. We enjoyed the wildlife we saw (rabbit and wild turkeys) and the view from the porch.

The property is immaculate...clean and well maintained.

We'll book this cabin again, no doubt.

Everything you need in the mountains of TN

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Banjo Ridge Cabin. The advanced instructions/guidance were detailed and appreciated. Our dog loved the secluded setting. I appreciated the offer of a discount when not using all bedrooms (there were only 2 adults on our trip). It can be hard to find pet friendly cabins just for 2. The kitchen offered more utensils and cooking dishes than most rental houses I've seen, which was really helpful.

The king bed in the master bedroom was pretty uncomfortable (worn out spring mattress). After 3 nights, we were definitely ready to get home to our own bed. Hopefully the beds (or at least this one) will be upgraded soon.

Nice cabin but needs to be cleaned thoroughly

  • 2 of 5

The cabin itself was good. The hot tub worked great and we had a lot of fun playing pool. The issue was that we had rat poop in our bed and on our pillows in the upstairs bedroom. There were not any final checks done to ensure this place was ready to go. When I went to get the spare linens out of the washer dryer room, they were all soaked. Considering I spent $8 a night extra per person, I expect the linens and extra cleaning maintenance I was charged for to be completed. There were signs everywhere threatening your deposit which makes you feel like something is always about to go wrong. Outside of the negligence of the cleaning crew and oppressive nature of the signs, this is a very good cabin and you can't beat the price. One final note the welcome binder stated that the hot tub has to be in ST mode to heat but nothing about how to get it there. Explaining how to make the equipment work would be a nice addition.

Owner's Response: Hey, So good to hear that the cabin was good and the hot tub clean. The pool table is enjoyable and brings groups and family together. You're right, for the price this is a great deal on a cabin rental especially one with so many amenities, privacy and easy road access. We try very hard to make everything 100% perfect for every guest, but realize thats just not realestic. Sorry that a field mouse visited, they are around out there in the country and a member of your group had left the cabin door open. We suspect thats how he got in. Our cleaning crew has caught the little creature and all is well. Owners do post directions in their homes only to give guests a little nudge in the right direction. The hot tub needs to stay in ST mode is what our note says. All we ask is that guests don't change the mode. Thanks for your positive remarks, they are most appreciated. Please don't leave the doors open, especially at night when field mice are out and about.
