About Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals

Homemaker, grandmother, Mtn Girl at heart.

Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals chose Tennessee

Love the privacy and the near by Lake access. Love being on the water but have to get away from it to get the kind of privacy my family likes. Here you can target practice or get into the hot tub in your birthday suite.

What makes this cabin unique

The most unique benefit is the versatility of this location.

Gorgeous cabin with quality craftsmanship. Cedar wood work, zebra wood floors. Very unique. A lot of thought went into this home. Snow skiing to jet skiing, Fall foliage to wildlife viewing right here on the property. Gorgeous views anytime of the year that are second to none. Paved roads, with good access to town, shopping and restaurants. Zip lines, whitewater rafting, Bristol race. Where mtns meet water.

Wonderful Week in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Overall, our stay at the cabin way exceeded our expectations.

The general location was close to a great variety of outdoor activities – too many for one week! The local area was delightfully hilly and green. Temps were cooler than anticipated, but apparently normal for the area, which was a definite bonus. (And still warm enough for kayaking.)

The cabin was truly "secluded"; I remember seeing a car go by maybe four times in the whole week. Excellent privacy! Instead of suburbia, you have the sounds of the woods. What a treat to sit out on the porch and listen to the rain. The trees were great (we don't have trees like that out in the Midwest), with lots of birds to hear, and some to see. We LOVED the porch; most times we ate at the table out there.

The exterior of the cabin had decking all around, except for the driveway; very clean; no mud. We totally enjoyed the fire pit and the hot tub. (Nice to get out and not stink of chlorine - thank you!) Grill worked great, and the laundry was very convenient.

The cabin (seems a misnomer) was amazing! (Who built that?) Way spacious with a great layout, much cleaner than home :( , very well appointed, both in the kitchen and the rest. I don't pack light, so I would have liked a small dresser in the bedroom. The water's apparently from a well, sweet!

Heed their recommendation to plan ahead of time! We had almost no cellphone service at the cabin (although the landline is there if needed). There was no internet service so planning had to be done elsewhere. There was TV, but had trouble getting local weather forecasts. We'll prepare better next time.

The housekeeper was available and friendly, although we didn't see her. On-line booking, paying, etc. went well. The info they provided covered about everything (very key!).

We got a lot of hiking in (get trail maps ahead of time and bring them with you), horseback riding (Dutch Creek), and kayaking (Fish Springs Marina; Toni was delightful!). The Mast General Store WAS cool, the Game Keeper was worth all its stars, and the Captain's Table was excellent. (We ate in the cabin most of the time.) We ran out of week long before we ran out of things to do, and would have enjoyed more time just sitting on the porch enjoying the woods. Next time.

I would definitely recommend Banjo Ridge to anyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of a beautiful cabin, or just “get away”.

Great property in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We booked the cabin for our Labor day weekend getaway, and we had an excellent time! Once you get in, you will see a very spacious open living room/kitchen. With two master bedrooms on the first floor and the loft bedroom on the second floor, we had plenty of space for 6 of us.

Things we liked/things we did:

1. The management was very responsive. We had to contact the manager multiple times before/during/after our trip, and we got the responses within a few minutes. We didn't check out any restaurants since we cooked/grilled, but the general stores seemed to have most of the groceries that we forgot to bring.

2. There were multiple hiking trails within 30-40 minutes of drive. We especially enjoyed Laurel Falls hiking trail, which is about 40 minutes drive from the cabin.

3. The hot tub outside as well as the jet tub in one of the master bedroom were excellent ways to relax after days of hiking.

4. The house itself definitely exceeded our expectation from the picture. The house is kept very clean, and a lot of windows and the porch provided plenty of exposure to the outdoor. The hot water and HVAC worked excellent as well.

5. Grill worked great. We used the grill and fire pit every night to cook burgers, hot dogs, and s'mores.

6. A lot of the necessities were provided, including towels, linens, trash bags, laundry detergent, dish washer detergent, paper towel, toilet paper, and trash bags, which was very convenient.

7. Internet is not super fast, but it is freely provided; definitely sufficient for checking e-mails and looking up trails or recipes.

8. TV and DVD players worked great; it was a perfect setting to watch a few scary movies that we brought (which we left for the next guests).

9. Payment and refund of the security deposit went very smoothly and promptly.

Rooms for improvement:

1. A few of the light bulbs were out, thought it didn't bother us at all with all the natural light as well as a lot of other lights.

2. Some of the kitchen supplies would have been nice if provided (ketchup, mustard, sugar, black pepper, baking powder, etc. - which we bought and left for the next guests).

3. Some of the hot tub jets were not working, but it wasn't really inconveniencing.

4. We had a little difficulty finding the place because we lost GPS signal about 10 minutes prior to the cabin (as the manager warned); be sure to read the materials that they send you prior to arrival.

Beautiful property!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at this cabin. It was easy to find, yet private and quiet. The house was very clean and spacious. Great tub, nice beds, wonderful porch! The hot tub was great after a day on the lake. Part of the jets weren't working and the housekeeper was great when I notified her. The oven was a little weird. It seemed to be set in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. But it baked fine, with a little calculation. The knives were very dull. Again, a minor issue unless you're doing major cooking. We'd stay again and recommend it to friends.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words and helpful heads up on the stove. A new one has been installed and new kitchen knives bought. Yes, all the jets may not work but the hot tub is clean, bubbling hot and ready for the next guest, for the most part its in good working order. Thanks so much for taking good care of our home. Know you are welcome back.

Nice and clean cabin

  • 5 of 5

Very nice and private cabin in the woods. The cabin was very clean and had pretty much everything we needed. Appliances were pretty new and worked great. I enjoyed the jetted tub in the masterbath. Would highly recommend. We stayed here during a race weekend. It's about 45 minutes from the track but well worth the drive. Hidden gem for sure

A great secluded place to enjoy a cabin in the woods.

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place if your looking for a private secluded place to stay. The cabin was very clean. I loved relaxing in the hot tub. The fire pit was a added luxury that I also liked about this cabin. Although I did not bring my pets, it would have been a perfect place to bring them. We thoroughly enjoyed playing with the pool table. Great place for privacy.

the cacin

  • 5 of 5

the cabin itself was as advertised. Not only did it look good, it was clean. there is no cell service, which they told me in advance. they do have very good internet ,so if your have facebook messenger its very easy, and reliable for face calls. with that said now comes the my one complant the driveway is very hard to navigate on a large motorcycle. its in the mountains and the can't change, but it would help to pave the drive if possible.

Owner's Response: So glad you had an enjoyable stay. Please know you are welcome back anytime. Will pass along your comments about paving but with such a short driveway most have no trouble and is preferable during the winter months when it snows.
